Chapter 34
Chapter 34
Eric
"When you sniff the flower, do you get it's scent?" I asked her and she nodded.
I was already beginning to feel the pull to want to go hold her as I stood there watching her with keen eyes. Dera was also actively avoiding looking into my eyes and I could tell from the way her heart was racing that whatever I was feeling, she was definitely going through it as well. She tried to keep her eyes away from mine even when I was searching desperately for her. I wanted to see what she was going to react like and it was taking all the morals in me to keep my hands to myself. Even as I was guiding her, I clearly was keeping my distance as I did not want to provoke her one bit. I also wanted her to be really comfortable with me.
I urged her to go closer and sniff the flower again and then as she bent over to do so, I realised that all I could see was an angel doing just that act. She was different and really endearing to me and I was revelling in her company. We were already getting deeper into the moment as I started taking her away in distance batches to ascertain at what point she looses her scent of something. It was too bad that we went not so far away and I realised she had not received the basic training a werewolf needed for this in truth.
"Try again and see if you can catch even a whiff of the scent of the daisies." I said to her.
I really wished it was my scent we were searching for and I could almost imagine what it would have been like but I dared not. Perhaps, I might eventually work up our lessons to hide and seek so she would find me.
'And then we would hide away in a perfect place where we can mark her. This is a brilliant idea, Eric. The most brilliant I must say that you have ever made in a long time. Now we're syncing.' My wolf says through our mind link.
I definitely needed that exorcist because he was a nagging evil spirit. Nevertheless, I did not argue at all as I stood there trying hard not to break character around her. She seemed really interested as she started sniffing the air like I had said. I started counting the seconds it took her to identify the scent in the air away from the daisies.
"I caught it just now but it's mixed up. It is really hard to focus as there are way too many scents to catch. I'm really sorry. It seems like I would never learn and I'm just wasting your time, Eric." She said.
Before she mentioned my name, I noticed how she looked at me tentatively like she was actually seeking permission to call me by name. However, I knew that with much love and care, eventually she would get used to it and I would have to cease worrying. But she was apologising again for something that she wad still learning and it really made me sad looking at her that way.
"Dera, you don't have to apologise and you're not wasting my time. I'm telling you that in a long time especially since Amara took over the company managerial stuff, I have lost purpose and now that you're here, you've given me that which I lost on a gold platter. So, no. I am not made one bit at you. If I dare say it, I'm truly sorry that it took all this time to teach you." I said to her.
She was shocked, clearly with how she suddenly looked at me. Her mouth opened like she wanted to say something but then she shut it again as what I had said suddenly hit her like a wave. I had made an impression on her and now, she was stuck with thinking about it.
"You shouldn't apologise. I think if anyone was to teach me, it should have been my dad. And I am really grateful for this opportunity. I want to learn this. Could you teach me, please?" She asked me, politely.
Who would refuse a woman as lovely as this anything in the world? I already made peace with myself that I was going to tell her everything that she wanted to know. So I agreed that I was going to show her everything. I started off by trying to get her to find the scent and even brought some daisies that I scattered in random places but it was impossible. I could not understand what had made her senses so dull but I knew that if I looked well enough, I would figure it out. I was definitely not prepared to give up on her especially as I knew she needed my support.
Our lessons lasted for sometime and eventually, I had to let her go rest. Dera was in the bedroom when my Beta arrived. I secretly told a servant to go tell her that she should remain inside for the time being.
"My Alpha." He greeted me.
"We'll talk in my study, Alfredo." I said to him and he nodded.
I led the way inside, a maid had been told to get us drinks so we can ponder over them and I noticed from his face that something was bothering the man. I was not new to the whole thing and I desired to deal with every issue as I should do.
"Out with it." I said to him.
"For starters, I had a little intel on some elders that are beginning to speak against you. I have started running investigations on them and my Alpha, it is clear that they really want you out." He said to me.
Alright, I was not new to all this. When my wife had passed leaving Amara and I alone, they had been the very ones that came to see me with the demands that I needed to settle down again. They mostly were rallying for my wife's twin sister who had been a torn on our flesh at some point but it did not work out. When I announced Amara as my heir, it was like I had done the unthinkable to them. It created a lot of chaos but luckily, there were no laws that said that a woman could not be Alpha.
I bet they were hoping that was in place. The head of the elders was a man I did not trust. He had been against my father at his time and I was no exception.
"What exactly are they saying this time?" I demanded.
"My Alpha, they think that your daughter should be married to someone powerful. And they are already beginning to think of candidates that they would present to you in the next meeting with hopes that you would consider. I hear they want to find out those from their circle of friends so that they would control the pack." He explained.
"And what really makes them think that Amara would let anyone lord over her? They most definitely are dreaming. What is the next thing?" I asked him.
"It's you." He responded.
"You're looking like I'm dead. What's up?" I asked him.
"We both know we cannot pressurise Amara but what about you? The elders wants you to get married too." He said.
"I thought it was Amara just now?" I asked him.
"Yes but if she's not getting married then you should and seriously, I do not say this as a Beta to you but as an old friend, you really need to get settled down. I know you miss those lovely moments with a woman but then, you need them." He said to me.
"Oh, I do get a lot of women and you know that. The forbidden part of the castle is for a purpose, remember?" I asked him.
"Forget the games. You're still in need of a woman that you can call your own. Someone that would be yours and please don't tell me about the crap with Amara and your promise, she should understand that this is something that would make you happy." He said.
Alright, I drew the line there.
"No, you take that back. It's not crap, okay? She grew up without a mother and it's the least I can do to show jow much I love her. If she says I should stay this way, then I best do that. Besides, there's nothing I could do even if I wanted. I made the promise by the moon goddess and it's only Amara that can officially let me get married again." I said to him and my eyes fell.
"Wait a second. Usually, you would holler at me and that's all but now you're saying something. Tell me Eric, have you found someone?" He asked me.
I hated the fact that my friend could read me like a book. It has always made deceiving him a tough job.
"Not necessarily." I responded.
"There is someone. Your expression says it all. But I'll not probe. What I would say is that you really need to figure out your shit. You seriously cannot keep being this way, man." He said to me.
