Chapter 30

Chapter 30

Dera

I woke up to find myself on my bed even though I could not remember when I came inside. I started to wonder if Amara had carried me inside herself or was it-

It was then it struck me. The lingering scent of cinnamon and honey in my bedroom. Definitely Alpha Eric had been here and I was becoming quite certain that he was the one that had carried me into the bedroom. I glanced around not knowing if I was doing that because I was hoping that he would still be there or just reflex. In the end, I had to caution myself. Somehow, my hand went straight to my cheek and there was this feeling that was just too familiar. It was almost as if he had kissed me again and I could not even imagine what it must have been like. I had dreamt too about him last night and I wanted to believe that him carrying me in that dream into a cabin was certainly my imaginations becoming aggressively real. I cast it to the back of my mind as I started to get ready.

I had just come out of the shower when someone knocked on my door. I asked and Amara walked inside. She was smiling and then came over to hug me right where I stood.

"Okay, that's weird. Did I do something silly last night?" I asked her because I was really confused at this point.

"Nope. Not unless you want to convince me that people get drunk from taking ice cream too. Is that the case?" She asked me.

"Not at all. How did I get back inside last night?" I asked her.

"Wait, you didn't know. Well, I saw you were quite peaceful on the floor and I wanted to turn in for the night. So, instead of having to wake you up, I asked my dad to bring you inside." She said to me,

"Oh. I guess I would have to thank him then." I said to her,

"Yeah, sure. You can do that over breakfast. You sort of overslept and I came here to call you." She said to me,

I told her that I would dress up immediately and join them and she smiled. She left me now as I stood still wondering over what had happened. So, it was actually Alpha Eric which explains his lingering scent and somehow, I was happy about it. I could not believe that I had been so deeply asleep that I had missed out on that moment. I could have woken up and then pretended to be asleep but I knew how bad I was at playing that. I once tried that with Isaac and it did not spare me the punishment that was coming plus the one I had incurred for pretending.

So, I got myself all tidied up and I started walking out into the sitting room area. This time, I was really careful so I did not miss my way and then I came around to join them at the dining area. Alpha Eric was already seated there and I was really shy seeing him this morning. I tried hard not to blush all over as I greeted him.

"Good morning, Alpha." I said to him,

"Seriously, Dera? You're still feeling like you don't belong here?" Amara asked me.

"No. Of course not. I'm really sorry if that was the message I sent. I really didn't mean to." I apologized.

"There is no need for all that. Just call me Eric next time. We are way past formalities right about now." He said to me,

I did not know if that was because of how we had both been spending a lot of time kissing and trying to act like it never happened that he said we were past formalities or probably, it was because of Amara. She was my best friend after all and the sister I never had.

I smiled.

"Thank you, Eric." I said, my tone being really respectful as I did not want to provoke him by sounding rude in any form.

It was time for breakfast and I began to eat, Amara stopped me. She told me she had something for me and I looked at her when she asked me to follow her. I noticed that she grabbed a bottle of water as she did and we went straight to her bedroom. There she brought out some pills and then gave it to me while apologizing for pulling me away from the table as she did not know if I would have been comfortable enough to me again in her father's presence. This made me once again feel really glad that for once, someone was actually thinking about how I would feel.

I recall when I had been sick, Isaac would make me take drugs in the presence of the maids even. He did not care that I was going to be embarrassed or the fact that I had this phobia for drugs initially. In fact, if I was being quite honest, I would say that his harsh ways of treating me made me readjust to fit his taste.

Now, I took the pills from Amara as I thanked her for being on the lookout for me. That was when I took the pills and she asked me to sit down a little as she was giving her some time to adjust. I sat down now and a stretch of silence ensued between us for quite some time.

"Amara, do you think I would ever go out again?" I asked her suddenly and she looked at me.

"Why not? I mean, as soon as it is safe out there for you, then I would let you go anywhere you want. Who knows, you might actually go out to see the world as you always wanted. My dad said he noticed that you were looking through maps yesterday, I guess you still have that desire in you for an adventure. I'm going to assist to make certain that it comes to pass." She said to me,

So, he had seen me snooping around yesterday. His attention to details baffled me as much as it scared me. The last man I had been with who had such attention was really scary. I started to wonder what else he had noticed.

'Relax, Dera. Obviously, he's looking out for you and you need it. You need someone who is willing to care so much about you that he makes it a thing to always check your activities. Not like that bastard had done though but something tells me Alpha Eric is different.' Tia said through our mind link.

There she was. All along, I have been wondering where she was as she had suddenly been silent even when I had been wondering about what had happened to me last night. She clearly knew something and has been keeping quiet because it was something that might have worried me greatly. I did not argue with her, at least not at this moment when she was making a lot of noise. Plus, Amara was already looking at me like she was waiting for an answer.

"Well, I guess I still do. But what if Alpha Isaac never gives up. What if he raises dust against you guys, don't you think that would be a problem?" I asked her.

"Not at all. Before then, we would have taken care of him and his excesses. Dera, you have to know that bastard would never come close to you again and I would make certain of that. My dad too. Just trust us and let us protect you as much as we can." She said to me,

"Of course." I responded.

Seeing that it was settled, Amara decided that we should go back to the table as we had taken some time. Alpha Eric looked at us and I smiled as I went to sit down. It was breakfast for one big family at this point and it felt really soothing. By the time we were done, Amara decided to go to work and I retired myself to my bedroom.

I had been there for a really long time when I decided to go out partly because I was missing him. I walked past his study but he was not there making me really confused. I had been hoping to see him. Instead of continuing to the library as had been my initial plan, I decided that I would go snoop around and see where he might be.

I sniffed the air but his scent lingered but did not make any difference as I was not trained to do that. It was really bad for a wolf like me and I was really beginning to consider that I might beg him to teach me. I took some random turns and then I came out around the back, so I circled back into the castle from a corridor and as I approached, I realized this was the forbidden area. I gasped and I should have turned back but my curiosity was too much as I came forward.

There was a sound of moaning and then I happened close to a door that was open. I should have gone back then but I really wanted to see, so, I came and I peered only to find Alpha Eric with a woman in the act.

My hands went over my mouth but I gasped when he turned around and saw me. I instantly started running away in the direction I had come and I heard him calling me. I did not stop but then as I got close to the staircase, I missed my footing and I started tumbling down the stairs.
