Chapter 22 New Beginnings

Chapter 22 New Beginnings

Serena's POV

We drove in silence for a while. I sat in the backseat of Cassian's car, my body still humming from everything that had just happened.

Kael was in the passenger seat, occasionally glancing back at me with those intense golden eyes.

I should have felt embarrassed. Should have been thinking about what we had just done on the hood of this car. But all I felt was satisfaction. Complete in a way I had never experienced before.

"I have a surprise for you," Cassian said, breaking the silence.

I looked up at him through the rearview mirror. "A surprise?"

"You will see."

We drove for another twenty minutes, leaving the dark forest roads behind and entering what looked like a small human town. The streets were quiet at this hour, but I could see lights in some of the windows. Normal people living normal lives.

Something I had not had in so long.

Cassian pulled up in front of a beautiful building. It was modern, with large windows A condo complex, from the looks of it.

"Where are we?" I asked as Kael opened my door.

"Your new home," Cassian said simply. "If you want it."

I stared at him. "What?"

He walked over and handed me a set of keys. "I know you have been through hell. I know you did not ask for any of this. And as much as I want to keep you by my side, force you to stay with me... I cannot do that."

My throat tightened.

"You deserve to have a life, Serena, A real one. Not locked away in some supernatural compound or treated like property." His dark eyes met mine.

"So I bought this place, For you. It is in a human town, far enough from the supernatural world that you can pretend it does not exist if you want to."

Tears pricked at my eyes. "Cassian..."

"You do not have to stay here if you do not want to," he continued. "But the option is yours. You get to choose what happens next. Not me. Not Kael. Not anyone else."

I launched myself at him before I could stop myself. Wrapped my arms around his neck and held on tight. "Thank you," I whispered. "Thank you so much."

He held me back, his cool arms gentle around my waist. "You are welcome, love."

When I finally pulled away, I wiped my eyes. I could not believe this was happening. After everything, after all the darkness and fear and pain, someone was giving me a chance to start over.

I could build my life again. Maybe I still had a chance at becoming a fashion designer, Get a job. Be normal.

And Ethan. That bastard who sold me like I was nothing. I did not know how yet, but I was going to make him pay. He was not going to get away with what he did to me.

The thought brought a smile to my face. Revenge. Sweet, satisfying revenge.

"There is one more thing," Kael said, stepping forward.

He pulled out an envelope from his jacket and handed it to me.

I took it, confused. "What is this?"

"Open it."

I did, my hands shaking slightly. Inside was a letter. An official-looking letter with a company logo at the top.

Pure Silk Fashion Company.

My heart stopped.

"Dear Ms. Serena," I read aloud, my voice trembling. "We are pleased to offer you a position as an intern at Pure Silk Fashion Company. Your start date is..."

I could not finish. The words blurred as tears filled my eyes again.

Pure Silk. One of the biggest fashion companies in the country. I had applied there months ago, before everything fell apart. Before Ethan. Before the auction. Before all of this.

And they were offering me a job.

"How did you..." I looked up at Kael.

He shrugged, but there was a small smile on his face. "I have connections. And you have talent. They would be lucky to have you."

The joy exploding inside me was almost too much to contain. I felt like I might burst. My dreams were coming true. Actually coming true.

Fashion design has been my passion since I was a kid. The one thing that made me feel alive. And now I was getting a chance to actually do it. To work at a real company. To learn from professionals.

"Thank you," I said, throwing my arms around Kael. "Thank you so much."

He held me close, his warmth surrounding me. "Anything for you."

When I pulled back, I looked between both of them. Neither had mentioned my powers. Neither had said anything about what happened at the coven. About the witches I killed.

It was like they did not care. Like they accepted me, darkness and all.

The relief I felt was overwhelming.

"I do not know what to say," I whispered. "You both have given me so much."

"You deserve it," Cassian said. "All of it and more."

Kael stepped closer. His expression grew serious. "There is something I need to say."

My stomach tightened. Here it comes.

"You are my mate, Serena. Mine. And I want you to accept the bond between us." His golden eyes bored into mine. "I want to mark you. Make it official."

I swallowed hard. "Kael..."

"I know this is all new to you. I know you need time to process everything. But I am not a patient man." He reached out and tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. "I want everyone to know you belong to me. That you are mine to protect. Mine to cherish."

"I still need time to think," I said quietly.

His jaw tightened. "How much time?"

"I do not know. Everything is happening so fast. I just... I need to figure out who I am first. What I want."

"And what if I cannot wait?" His voice dropped lower. "What if I am tired of being patient? What if I want to claim what is mine right now?"

There was a threat in his words. Not violent, but possessive. Demanding.

"Kael," Cassian warned.

But Kael did not look away from me. "I am giving you time, Serena. But not much. If you do not accept the bond soon, I will force my mark on you. Whether you are ready or not."

My breath caught. Part of me wanted to argue. To tell him he could not just force something like that on me.

But another part of me understood. He was a Lycan king. An alpha. His instincts were probably screaming at him to claim me. To make sure no one else could take me away.

"How much time?" I asked.

"A month. Maybe less if I lose control."

I nodded slowly. "Okay."

"Okay?" He raised an eyebrow.

"I will think about it. About us. About the bond. But I cannot promise anything."

He stared at me for a long moment. Then he leaned down and kissed me. Hard and possessive. A reminder of what we had just shared.

When he pulled back, his eyes were glowing faintly. "One month, Serena. Then you are mine."

He turned and walked back toward the car, leaving me standing there with Cassian.

"He means it," Cassian said softly. "When it comes to his mate, Kael does not play games."

"I know." I looked down at the keys in my hand. At the letter from Pure Silk. At this new life being handed to me on a silver platter.

Everything was changing so fast. But for the first time in months, I felt like maybe, just maybe, things were going to be okay.

"Thank you," I said again, looking up at Cassian. "For everything."

He smiled. "Come on. Let me show you your new home."

We walked into the building together. The lobby was beautiful, all marble and modern lighting. Cassian led me to the elevator and we rode up to the fifth floor.

When he opened the door to my condo, I gasped.

It was perfect. Huge windows overlooking the city. A spacious living room with comfortable furniture. A kitchen that looked like it belonged in a magazine. And through the open door, I could see a bedroom with the biggest bed I had ever seen.

"This is too much," I whispered.

"Nothing is too much for you."

I walked through the space, touching everything. The soft couch. The marble countertops. The fluffy pillows on the bed.

This was mine. All mine.

For the first time since Ethan sold me, I felt like I had control over my own life again.

And I was not going to waste it.
