Chapter 188
Chapter 188
RYDEN
She still managed to look at me and smile before she sagged and her arms dropped. Then I couldn’t hear her heartbeat anymore.
My world stopped. An excruciating pain squeezed like a vise slowly, bringing me to the reality that Amelia was gone.
“No, no. This is not happening.” Intense emotions stirred in my voice.
A howl roared, echoing through the forest, scaring the bird away. I couldn’t give a shit about whom that come from, probably from Lucius. I would not give up until I found a way to get my mate back. It happened once, I was sure it would happen again, and I would wait for her even if it took another twenty years.
“Amelia, ladybug, please?” Tears rolled down as I watched the color drain from her beautiful face, and her life fade away before my eyes.
“No!” I pressed her body into my chest, hugging her tight, rocking her in my arms. I could still feel a little warmth from her, but it was definitely her blood from the open wound on her chest.
Everyone came, surrounding us, including her brother Zeph who kneeled before us and sobbed to cry.
“No, not Amelia.” Theia rushed her way in, crying before her best friend. “Am, why? This is not right! This is unfair! Why not just me? I’m useless, anyway. Please, Am? Come back to us.” She turned to Ren who joined us in the center. “We can still do something, right? We’ll take her to the temple. Call your Sensei, I’m sure he can do something. This is unacceptable, Ren! Tell me there’s something we can do! This is our best friend, Ren. Please?”
“Zarah, Samarah, do something, please? We can’t let her die. Not right now that we won the battle because of her. Please? This can’t be.”
Nora held Amelia’s hand. “Amelia, please. Tell me you’re just sleeping. Wake up, please?
Thousands of emotions drew into us and came from everyone.
“I could help tend her wound, but she’s gone. I’m so sorry.”
Growling, I glared at where the voice came from. “Where were you when we needed you, huh?”
“I’m sorry but I had wars to fight, too.” She seemed sincerely sad. She was no older than me, around Theia’s height with dark skin and her hair was braided in Afro style.
Zarah touched Amelia’s chest and shook her head. “She’s gone, Ryden.”
“No, she’s not!” My head snapped at her. “You can do some magic I’ve never seen before. Do it now! She just saved our lives. The best that we can do is save hers.”
“But she’s gone, Ryden,” Samarah said, making me realize that it was too late. “We can break the law of nature or there will be another consequence.”
“I don’t care! I want my mate back! I’ll take the consequences, Zarah, Samarah. Call Shadow, maybe she can do something.” I shook to cry and wrapped her in my arms again when all they could do was look at me. “You’re unfair! I can’t live without her. She’s the only thing that matters to me, and that fucking demon took her away from me.”
“I know what it feels like losing a mate, Ryden, but there’s nothing we can do,” Samarah said, breaking my heart even more. “If there’s such a thing as waking up the dead without repercussions, I would have done it to Margaret, and that’s not what Amelia would have wanted. She gave us freedom, she won us a battle against a formidable evil. We can bring another evil to this earth. The rest that we could do is live with her legacy.”
“Legacy?” I growled and looked at everyone. My eyes glowed. My wolf threatened to come out. He was grieving with me, too. “Fuck you all! Leave me alone! Leave us alone or I will kill every last one of you!”
“Lucius!” Theia stood up and called him, but after he howled, he must have run away. I knew his pain. I felt it right now, and it was unbearable, beyond physical pain.
“Enoch, son a bitch!” I looked up at the sky. “Help me or I will scour the earth and find you. This is your daughter, Enoch,” I silently prayed, and if the Moon Goddess was watching me, I wished for miracles. “Please? I beg you to give my mate back, you fucking son of a bitch, show me something! Show me a sign!” I begged, pleaded, and demanded.
All of a sudden, I heard a roaring howl. The guys stepped away, giving way for the black wolf to come. Lucius’ wolf was robust and tall, and right now, he looked scary and about to rip everyone’s throat out. He snarled his fangs out before he bowed down and cried.
“Ry, I feel your pain. I just lost the only sister I have.” Zeph called my name. “But my parents would want to know what happened to their daughter. We have to bring her to the pack house.”
“No.” I stared at Zeph and shook my head. “Bring me the sword.”
“Man, I know what loss means. Amelia, wouldn’t want you to do this.” He begged, reaching for me.
“Bring me her fucking sword!”
One moment Lucius was right in front of me, the next second, he bolted out. He came back quickly with the sword. He knew only the three of us could wield it.
The son of a bitch could really wield it. I grabbed it as he offered it to me. I quickly twisted the lid and took the small battle which I put back before we faced our enemy.
“Holy shit.” For the first time, I heard the hopes in Ren’s voice. “Of course. How did I forget about the elixir?” He knelt before Amelia, even smiling.
“Tell me it will work, Ryden, whatever it is,” Nora said, wiping the tears from her eyes.
“It will work,” Theia said.
“Trust me. I’m the sign,” Zeph said. His chest heaving.
With my shaking hand, I twisted the small lid.
“Hey.” Lucius gripped my hand and looked right into my eyes. “You can do it. Breathe.” He then placed his palm on Amelia’s chest. “Hang in there, angel.”
I breathed deeply. Lucius helped me hold Amelia’s head and opened her mouth.
“Give it all to her. Considering who she is, she needs all that,” Ren said.
“I hope you know what you’re doing, kids,” Samarah said, but I had a strong feeling she knew what the elixir was.
“I had this sword, and I didn’t know there was an angel essence in there,” Lucius said. “Maybe it came from her father.”
I poured the entire elixir into Amelia’s mouth to its last drop. “I didn’t even know what it was.”
“Her father had like that, and he always wore a necklace around his neck. The pendant is similar to that,” Lucius explained. His gaze never left Amelia.
“What should we expect, guys?” Nora asked impatiently, gripping Amelia’s leg. “Come on, Amelia. Wake up. You gave me a chance. Prove me I deserved it.”
“Holy shit!” Zeph’s eyes widened as he stared at Amelia’s chest. The wound started to heal, the cut was closing slowly. The blood dried on her skin. “I would have been dead by now if it wasn’t for that elixir.
“Moon Goddess.” Guston gripped me on my shoulder. “She deserves this, brother.”
“Thank you.”
I touched Amelia’s face. “She’s getting warmer.”
“I can hear her heartbeat. It’s slow but she’s alive.” For the first time, I saw Lucius smile, really smile, grinning from ear to ear.
“Um. Guys. Is that supposed to happen?” Theia pointed at Amelia’s body which began to glow.
“She’s getting hotter! Guys, run as far away as you can!”
“What about you?” Lucius said as everyone started running. “Put her down before you turn to dust! We’ll come back for her. Trust me!”
I nodded and put her on the ground slowly. Then Lucius and I ran as fast as we could. We hadn’t gotten far, the energy blasted around us like a detonated bomb, throwing us away. I hit the ground. Air exploded in my lungs.
Groaning, I shared a look with Lucius. “What the fuck?”
“We need to talk,” he said urgently.
“Right now?”
“Yeah. It’s very important, but you can’t tell her what I’m about to tell you.”
