Chapter 147

Chapter 147
AMELIA

“Stop messing with me! Stop messing with my head.” Exasperated, I glared at him. My whole life was a mess. A clusterfuck. And now this, was what transpired in my life. “That’s not me.”

“I swear that was you in another life.”

“Fuck you. Explain or I’m leaving and you’re not gonna see me again. I blinked the tears back as it began to blur my vision.” Still outraged waiting for him to take back what he said, but it didn’t happen. The longer I looked at him, the more I was convinced that I was indeed in that picture. “You’re kidding, right?”

He shook his head. “You were my Amelia.”

“You’re not making any sense.” I wiped the tears off my face. “Is that why am so drawn to you? What’s going on, Lucius? If I was your Amelia, why I can’t remember anything about you.”

“You died.”

“I died? How?” Horrified, I breathed.

“It doesn’t matter.” He looked away. There was so much sorrow in his eyes. I felt like he carried so much guilt and pain, and it gave me more reason to know. I was more convinced that he did really love his Amelia.

“I think I have the right to know, Lucius. If that was me in the picture, I deserved to know.”

He met my gaze again.

“Tell me what happened, from the start, please?” I held his hand, squeezing it. “I need to know. I need answers.”

He smiled, though I still saw the sadness in there. “Very well. I wasn’t entirely honest with what I told your people, but I have reasons. I don’t know them and I don’t trust them.”

“Fair enough.” I smiled tightly at him as I was ready to listen. “The truth, please?”

“You know I never lied to you, Amelia.” He breathed deeply and started. “I first met you when you were eighteen.”

“I know that. You told me.” I rolled my eyes, trying to lighten up his mood.

He shook his head. “Not in this lifetime.”

“You still confused me with that lifetime.”

“Before you died. This is your second life.”

“What? How?” I stared at him in shock. A chill ran down all over my skin. “That’s impossible.”

“We’ll come to that part. I was already older than you. I’m eighty years old.”

I laughed. “No, you’re not. Stop messing with me.”

“Sweetheart, I am. Nick was your father’s friend and became my friend, too.” He smiled at me.

“Holy shit.”

“You were still in high school, and I’m almost the same right now, only twenty years younger.”

“What the hell? What are you exactly? I mean, you’re obviously a werewolf.”

“My father came from the long line of an ancient werewolf, an alpha. We aged slower. My mother was a witch. Their kind aged slower, too, like your witch friend, Zarah. At that time, mixed marriage almost didn’t exist, not forbidden, but it was almost taboo, at least from where I grew up. They believed and followed an old sacred world. So when I met you—”

“You mean, I was your assignment like you were to me.”

“Yes. I didn’t know the reason behind the assignment. I got the order, I didn’t ask many questions. I was a good agent and a good soldier. My order is to get close to you, to gain your trust. Not to kill you. Then there you were— the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen.” The way his eyes twinkled, he was definitely madly in love with Amelia. It was indulgent.

“Am I the same as hers?”

He smiled and stared deep into my eyes. Goddess, why did he have to be so damn beautiful? It made everything so complicated. “Angel, you are the same person. Personality? You’re a handful right now, but I’m sure you were the same before you first shifted. Demure and shy. Werewolf’s personalities are quite strong.”

“Yeah, I know.”

“My wolf instantly claimed you the moment he smelled your scent. I told my parents that I met my mate, and you were human, at least that was what I thought. I think your father may have masked your angel blood.”

“You met my father?”

“Yes. That’s when I realized your father is not like anyone I’ve ever met. Two months later, I asked his blessings to marry you. We got engaged. He gave me the blessings despite me, being a half-werewolf and a half-witch. I started to realize what the assignment was all about. I stopped reporting to the councils and the director about you and told them the truth.”

“But they already knew everything about me.”

“Yes, Amelia. That was the biggest mistake I ever made.”

I slowly shook my head as emotion welled in me, tightening my chest. “No, it wasn’t. You were just following the order. When you accepted the assignment, you didn’t know I was your mate.”

Dark empty eyes, he grunted. “Yeah, but it didn’t change the fact that I got you killed.”

“Hey.” He’d suffered more than most people could endure. No wonder he’d do anything for his pack. He didn’t want to suffer another heartache. “We were madly in love. You always wrote me a letter every week and sent it to the pack. You were kinda like the old ways, despite the mobile phones.”

“That’s how you know the director?”

“Yes. He was one of the councils at that time. Your father left the Enochian after your mother got killed. He raised you alone, but as your future husband had its perks. Then our moment had come. We get married that afternoon. Everyone was invited. I was promoted to level five for the assignment, and I was making my own name. I was preparing myself to be the next alpha. ”

“You got promoted because of me?”

“Yes.” When his emotions shifted, I felt like I knew what would happen next. “It was a beautiful day, Amelia. You were wearing the most beautiful wedding gown. You were perfect. That night, I was so nervous and excited at the same time because I knew I would be your first.”

“You waited for months without touching me?”

His smile was humorous. “Well, we—”

“Okay, okay.” I raised my hand. My cheeks heated. “We don’t have to go through all those details.”

“You told me you wanted to finish high school and you believe we should get married first, but I couldn’t wait another month. So, as soon as I got your father’s blessings, screw finishing high school.”

I laughed. “We’re in bed like this. You were drinking wine, at eighteen.” He chuckled. “I could sense you were nervous. You were wearing the white negligee I bought for you, and you gave me this locket as a wedding gift.”

I took it from him and felt it against my finger. “Then I died that night.”
