Chapter 90

Chapter 90
LYRA’S POV

The music was louder than ever today. Clear signs of the celebration and grand finale of the marking ceremony between Ryker, my mate, and Vera, who is now Luna. Despite the loud cheers and sound of music, I could hear my heart clearly, and something felt wrong in my bones.

Liora…I whispered quietly

Are you there? I don’t know how I feel—like something’s gone terribly wrong.

I can sense it too. We cannot shift now until the blood moon, and for some reason, our powers aren’t strong yet. Just be careful.

I’ll try.

I replied gingerly and carried the tray of drinks handed over to me, and followed the other servers into the party hall, sighing inwardly. Going in there filled me with anxiety. Not just because I was going to watch Ryker with his chosen mate, but I couldn’t shake off the look Vera gave me earlier when she walked in on Ryker and me in his study earlier in the day.

Vera had walked in on us while Ryker and I were in the heat of the moment, and she had been verbally expressive of her displeasure at the fact that Ryker would choose to do anything with me while he had just slept with her two nights before—I must admit that stung more than I could take, causing our intimate moment to be short lived. Then she had given me a look that I couldn’t quite place, and I didn’t know if the plan was still on.

My eyes focused on the hall in the distance as we walked through the lengthy walkway while the male wolves rolled the jar of drinks over to the room beside the hall for easy proximity.

As soon as I approached the hall, a pain gripped my chest, and I stopped. I knew that feeling…

Ryker was being touched inappropriately.

And I was right.

As soon as I stepped into the dazzling hall, I was greeted with the sight of Vera kissing Ryker fully on the lips.

My steps faltered, and I blinked back the tears that threatened.

I couldn’t wait for this night to be over.

Soon Lyra…I whispered to myself.

Soon it would all be over.

I painfully tore my gaze away, focusing on filling tables with drinks and refilling cups until my services took me to the part of the hall I didn’t want to.

Close to the Alpha table with the council of elders.

Quietly, I filled up glasses without asking. I didn’t want to ask questions…

It was a party after all, and there was no point in asking if drinks were needed by anyone. Besides, werewolves hardly got drunk except with Wolf lust or Wolf wine, depending on the level of intoxication one wanted.

My hands moved quickly, serving and moving to the next half-filled cup, ignoring Ryker’s eyes on every one of my movements. After Vera’s sudden interference earlier in the day, I had hurriedly gotten off the table and put on my clothes in a hurry without giving him room to stop me. My name barely left his lips by the time I fled his study.

Vera suddenly spoke, jarring me from my task.

“Lyra, come over here and fill my glass.” She called out to me, and my eyes met hers.

Was this it?

Was this the sign?

I moved closer to her and showed her the jar of drink in my hand. “I don’t think it’s okay for you to take wine, Luna.”

She laughed lightly. “Of course, I know that. Just get me one of those grape fruits from the kitchen.”

Nodding, I retreated and turned away from her table. My heart was thudding as I didn’t know what to expect.

The moment I got to the kitchen, Amara came into view. She gave me a smirk and handed me a pack of grape juice and walked past me with a mocking smile. I was used to that look—the bitchy type—It was their usual way of acting all high and mighty. I walked out of the kitchen with my head high. Whatever made them sleep at night.

I didn’t care, and soon, I wouldn’t have to focus on their ridiculous behaviour.

Without delays, I approached Vera’s table with the pack of juice.

“Pour me some,” She flickered her wrist like she was disinterested in a servant girl like me.

I inwardly steeled my resolve and did as she asked. I was awfully aware of how Ryker’s gaze was on me despite being in an active conversation with some of the Alphas at the table.

That was when I noticed Vera’s hand move to her napkin, and she slightly pulled out a note and squeezed it in her palm.

While I looked around hurriedly to observe our surroundings, wondering how she would be able to pass the note to me without raising suspicion, she banged the table with her palm—The same palm that held the note.

“Can’t you do anything right? I asked for apple juice and not grape juice.”

I flinched and hurriedly apologized. “I’m sorry, you didn’t state it earlier, I would have—”

“Shut up,” She interrupted me. “The only thing you know how to do is to create attention; you cannot even address me rightly. Do you need to be spoon-fed Lyra? Just get me my drink.” She hissed and winked.

Without wasting time, I sprang into action and picked up the piece of paper as she moved her hand and placed it under the tray, and left, leaving the drink behind.

I had taken a few steps before I realized I had left the drink that was used to stir drama.

Groaning inwardly, I kept moving. I bit my lower lip as I hoped no one would stop me. Especially Ryker—his eyes never left me, making me super conscious.

By the time I had walked a considerable distance from the hall, I opened the piece of paper and read.

Wait for me in the Luna Chamber. Someone would be there to help you escape.
