Chapter 36
“I’m sorry.” She replied meekly, noticing my expression was hard, and I nodded.
“You haven’t called me to your room lately.” She spoke, biting her lips as though in a pout.
“There’s been no need to,” I reply flatly.
“I could come over tonight,” Vera said with a small smile as she walked towards me.
“I’m busy, Vera, not now,” I say, gesticulating to Lief and Ezren, indicating we are in the middle of a conversation.
“Babe, it’s me, your V remember. You haven’t called me V for some time now.” She came to me, kneeling before me as she placed her hands on my knees.
A sigh escapes me as I rest my hand on my chin and stare at her lazily.
She started touching me with her hands and moving her hands up my thighs to my member, but I felt nothing.
“You used to like only my touch.” She whispered seductively while I cocked an eyebrow at her.
It seemed like a long time ago in my head, and it felt alien that I used to like what she did with me and how she used to fuck me.
Looking back now, it made me realize how ridiculous it was of me to have liked all those things ever since I experienced Lyra.
Every touch, every kiss, every moan, with Lyra, it was different. It was as though her touch ignited fires within me I never knew I possessed. She unlocked desires so intense, I thought I could die from them.
Never in a million years would I have thought I could die from pleasure. With Lyra, it felt like destiny.
“Let’s talk later, Vera, I’m busy,” I replied to her disinterestedly.
She was persistent and wouldn’t take no for an answer. He slid her arm to my cock and tried to unbuckle my belt. Just as I placed my hands on hers to stop her, Lyra walks in with the she-wolf slaves to clean up, and she sees the scene.
This was bad. I thought
The sight of Vera kneeling in front of me with her head to my groin screamed foul.
I watched as color drained from Lyra’s face and she took a step backward.
“Lyra, wait,” I called out to her. “Please, wait,” I called out in panic, pushing off Vera as I ran down the throne steps to get to her.
She stopped in her steps and turned to look at me with pain in her eyes.
“It’s not what you think.” I urged her hastily.
“What do you think that I’m thinking?” She asked back angrily.
I searched her eyes and shook my head, but instead she turned to leave the room, walking away.
“Where are you going?” I chased after her, holding her arms to stop her from moving.
“I’ve got work to do, Alpha.” She replied
‘What happened to calling my name?” I asked her softly.
She opened her mouth and closed it while her hands moved as though she was fed up.
“What do you want from me, Ryker?” She asked, her voice strained, but I could hear the raw pain, and my wolf felt hurt.
“You hit me, you punish me, humiliate me, fuck me at will, and hurt me all over again. I am so tired of you, of the world, of everything. Why don’t you just kill me?” She screamed.
“No,” I shook my head. Rider was whimpering at the pain in her voice. “Don’t say that.”
“Then what do you want from me? Please just kill me and end this whole madness. I don’t know how much of these I can take?” She said to me, her tone high and her tears spilling as she held her chest.
“I want you, Lyra,” I shouted back, stunning myself. “As much as I hate you, I desperately want you,” I reply, ignoring the whispers, the stares from my pack members.
“I want you,” I said again, quieter and calmer this time, as I held her in my arms and kissed her tears.
Her shoulders shook as I held her in my arms, the intensity of her emotion weighing down on her. I trailed her tears with my lips and kissed her on the lips, completely forgetting the world around us.
She tasted like cherries after rain, her scent enveloped me as she leaned closer to my touch. I groaned, deepening the kiss as my body burned for her.
Then I stopped to scoop her up in a bridal style and walked out of the hallway to the elevator.
The rest of the afternoon was a wild one for us as I explored every inch of her body until she begged me to stop.
I watched her sleep in my arms after we made love and mentally made note of getting her ointment for her scars.
Ezren mind linked me to a situation that needed my attention, and so I left Lyra sleeping soundly in the room.
By the time I arrived in the throne room, I noticed my warriors were on the ground. They all created a path for me as I walked past them and nodded my head in acknowledgement of their greetings.
“Alpha King. There’s been a report.” Lief, my beta, said with a grim expression as he handed over a tablet to me while I scanned the report.
“Our consignments couldn’t get to the South; there’s been a war. Some of our men got in the crossfire.” Lief spoke as I quickly glanced through the report.
‘And our men?” I ask, barely raising my eyes as my mind raced.
“Alive. Though we have a few injured. They are in the infirmary.”
“Who led the trade inquisition?” I asked, looking up from the tablet in my hands.
“I did, my Lord.” A werewolf known as Kael spoke.
“We found ourselves in the middle of the war before it was too late. Initially, we thought it was a civil war, only to realize it was a war with the Lycans.”
