Chapter 120: The pack's laws
Jacob
Alright, this was way more than I had ever thought or bargained for. The fact that everyone suddenly had fessed up made me feel like it was all over and done with. All the hiding and deceit but what I believed was the fact that everyone of us had a problem. Bad enough that Jace was a guy, how could we all belong to him? It was horrible to even begin to think with and the fact remained that I did not want to share with anyone.
I had to carry, Peter insisted. The asshole that has ruined everything because of his impulsive decisions. While hearing Harold speaking to Damon. I heard when he told him that we all were going to have to reject Jace. That sounded awful but I shall have words to say later.
The door to Jace's room was open slightly as I emerged from his floor and Garrett was in there. I walked over and then slightly opened the door to find Jace laying down, his head on Garrett's lap as the latter rocked him from side to side.
"Everything okay?" I asked him.
"Yes. I guess he's just too shocked that he went out cold. Anyways, you seem to get your own hands filled with Peter's butt." He responded.
"Yeah, I'll take him in." I said to him,
"I'll keep an eye on Jace. You should go before Peter wrecks more havoc." Garrett said.
More havoc? He was lucky he had not harmed Jace because I was going to kill him. The first time he had lunged, I was prepared to make a move when I saw Damon flash quickly. That perhaps was the only reason why Peter had been alive. But now, I noticed the compassion for Jace in Garret's eyes and I felt really eerie.
"When did you find out?" I asked him.
"That I was mated to him, the very first day he came here. I just knew and no matter how I tried to deal with it, the feeling was there." He said to me,
I nodded and then turned away as I did not want any questions thrown my way right now. I started back upstairs, managing my way up the stairs until I came to Peter's room which was still a mess by the way. I had to lay him at the foot of his bed as I tidied up the rest of the sides of the glass shards and dirt he had created. Then I proceeded to lay him back and then left his room. He was sound asleep but now was the time to face the music as I came all the way downstairs.
Harold and Damon were both in Jace's room at this point and Harold just asked Garrett to let the boy be as he was going to be fine.
"Now, I really think that before Peter wakes, we should solve this problem. You three have to reject Jace. That's the only way." Harold said.
Wait, was he kidding? So because I had tried to leave it to be Peter's secret to share, he assumed that he was the only innocent?
"Wait, you really think Peter is not part of this when the rest of us are?" Garrett demanded. I mean, it was common sense, right?
"We cannot say for now but Peter is out cold. We have something which Damon has to share with the bounty hunters and I'll be damned if I am going to sit back and let some mate bond to a human to create weakness here." Harold said.
"I'll save you the trouble. Peter is also mated to him and the hell you think that I would reject the boy." I responded vehemently. If I didn't know better, I could have said that I was disappointed with Harold and the fact that he would dare suggest such a thing.
"Peter too? So you know that? And here I was thinking that I was like family to you all. What was so hard about coming to tell me about it as soon as you discovered it?" Harold asked us as he looked from one person to another.
"Definitely this. Harold, I have never been gay my life but with Jace I want to explore. I'm not going to reject him now simply because you asked and I have been to the orphanage. This boy deserves love and if the moon goddess granted him four, then I have no problem." Damon said.
"You've been where?" Garrett demanded.
"A lot of places. The orphanage and in a bounty Hunter's house." Damon said.
I was worried. Wait, so I had been this close to losing a brother all this while? I could not bear it as I suddenly slapped him at the back of his head.
"You asshole!"
"What was that for?" He demanded.
"You don't know, you could have been killed. How dare you go snooping around without backup? Do you have a death wish or something?" I demanded.
"Aw, you care so bad? Don't worry, grandpa. I'll definitely let you know when next I do something crazy." He responded jovially but I was not finding it funny.
"You know, Damon, Jacob is right. You could have been killed or worse and I knew you were hiding something all along. I just didn't know what and as for Jace, Harold, I have been befriending him since he got here and if I must tell you something, it's the fact that I am in love with him. I'm not about to leave him ever. And even if it costs me the throne, I don't care. I never wanted to be alpha anyways." Garrett stated.
Wow, so this was his own stance and I realised that I had not been giving him credit enough.
"Well, that makes two of you." Harold responded.
"What do you mean?" I asked him.
"The tattoo on Peter's hand has already disqualified him from being Alpha. An Alpha must have no blemishes, remember?" He asked.
"But that's a work of art!" Damon said quickly.
"No. It's a stain to the skin. More like a brand of sorts. The original wolves were caught by men and tamed, then they were branded and this is why we werewolves avoid blemishes. Peter's mark is a rebellion and it's only because he's a prince that might save him from being considered a traitor." Harold explained.
I have always suspected something like this was what Harold was hinting but not this way.
"Well, Peter never wanted to be an Alpha anyways. At least before he got so engrossed with the whole bounty hunters thing." Damon mentioned.
Well, that was before because the Peter I knew now was competitive. Enough to have wanted to throw his mate under the bus.
"Well, what about Jace? When he wakes up, he should have questions." I said to Harold.
"That's where Damon's friend the vampire comes in. You know, there have been tales that they had the ability to forget. I'll get him to take away all his memory from the moment I approached him and then send him back." Harold said.
"Send him back? Are you kidding me? There's cops looking for him for crying out loud!" Garrett said.
"I'm sorry but the safety of you guys is paramount and I cannot have human ruining things. Besides, what do you think the pack would do when they discover that you are all mated to the same human male? A human female would have been negotiable but this, it is too much. Do you think they would accept you with arms wide open? Your birth was a taboo and you all being alive is still being contested till this day. Why don't you think?" Harold demanded and I noticed something in his eyes.
His eyes were rather teary like someone in pain and I could feel that whatever he was saying was coming from the very depths.
"You speak like you have witnessed this first hand, Harold. Is there something you're not telling us? We have been honest eventually with you and I believe that you owe us the very same thing." I demanded.
"I never had the chance at love, okay? My mate is a man and I could never really marry him because of pack laws. It's not easy but eventually you will come to understand that sacrifice is necessary." Harold said.
"You said, does this mean that he's still alive and maybe mated to you?" I asked him.
"I'm not the case study here. We're trying to fix things for you guys and you are not being reasonable. The pack laws must be obeyed." Harold stated.
"Then maybe the pack needs new rules to accommodate everyone. And hell no to the fact that I would ever try succumbing because some rules say no. I've always been the law breaker and I'm not going to let anyone take Jace from me." Damon responded.
"And I do too." I responded.
"I stand with Damon too." Garrett responded.
"Then be ready to bear the consequences alone. I already told you it's impossible." Harold said.
