Chapter 111: The two miscreants

Harold

Things were beginning to go out of control and I was losing my wits with so much that I needed to worry about. The boys were beginning to fall apart and it was clear that the wish of my Alpha might be the moon goddess actually will. I mean, what was there not to think about when it seemed as if everyone was trying to outdo the other. I decided that I would take one more step and trial towards trying to mend everything that had been broken.

I reached out to Jacob. He has always been the most sensible of the bunch and even now at the moment of chaos, he was the only one still trying his best to make everything fit properly. He had his eyes on the game and still had eyes for family. I suggested that he goes and talks to Garrett who I still noticed was angry because of the scent Jace was wearing. But then again, I still had to stay and wonder what it was about Jace that had everyone fighting each other. Certainly, I did not want to think this was like my situation as that would be really bad but it was so glaring that I no longer could ignore the clear handwriting on the wall that was technically telling me that there was more to all this than meets the eyes. It was not about brothers fighting each other anymore. It was like a competition.

I decided to remain in Jacob's room as he left to go speak to his brother and that did not actually take too long before he returned.

"Well?" I asked him.

"Garrett and I are cool." He responded.

"Great." I said to him,

"Now, can I go out now? I really need to get prepared for some things and I need to be back on time if I want to help him with what he is working on." He said to me,

"Since when did you have the knowledge of machines?" I asked with a smirk. Actually, I was really happy to hear they would be working together as that would leave out the other two miscreants to get recruited in the family love. Peter and Damon were more or less the loose cannons in the family and it used to be Damon only before. Peter had always been serving as his conscience so he did not end up backing the wrong horse but lately, it came clear to me now that everything that his brother had been doing, Peter had been imbibing the said behaviour. He had actually been learning from his brother on how to behave like him and that was something I dreaded. Having one Damon was a handful. But two, that is definitely a disaster.

"Well, it would interest you to know I'm assisting with some research. I really wanted to bring you all into it but I think it's best we handle this one. I thought you wanted us to bond, this is me trying to meet up with your needs, old man." Jacob said.

I smiled. He was always living up to expectations. The sensible one and he would always understand what was needed. I simply smiled at him and then asked that he should go right ahead as I had to attend other things. However, I was really looking forward to him returning on time as we all needed to sit down and talk. Jacob assured me that he would be back really soon and I smiled.

"Try reaching the two trouble makers and see if it's possible to know where they are." I said to him,

"Well, that I would try when I'm done with what I'm working on." He responded.

There was no point pushing forward as I started to leave and went downstairs. Jace was already done tidying the house and he was organising things in the kitchen. He had not heard me enter but I had the opportunity to view his side profile and it dawned on me that he actually had this feminine charm. The type if I was not exaggerating was likened to Martins. Could there be a possibility that one of the boys was actually in love with him? Who knows, I might actually have to make it seem obvious that they could trust me with anything, even this.

Jace noticed me eventually and then greeted me. He looked really shy and then he excused himself to go out back. Suddenly, I heard him cry out.

"Charlie, is that you?" He cried out with so much excitement.

Charlie? Someone has to be kidding me. I rushed over to the back and I was met with a scenario that had not happened in a very long time. There were two foxes out back. One was obviously the mother and the younger one was approaching Jace tentatively. The mother was looking really worried and she had her lips drawn back in a snarl. I sensed danger whereas Jace was focused on the little one not realising what was about to happen to home.

"Jace, don't make any sudden moves. What do you think you're doing?" I asked him.

"I'm trying to say hello to Charlie but I didn't know he'll bring his mother. Turns out Damon was not lying. Harold, may I feed him?" He asked me with the glee of a little child.

Wait, I am still trying to process. Charlie? Damon? Lying?

What had happened really?

"You don't feed strays. They'll come back in packs." I said to him but suddenly, the little one reached him and was licking him up. This was not a friendship which one builds in a really short time. It was trust gained overtime or after something life threatening. I wondered what it would be. The mother did not attack as she sat down. She looked at Jace with such affection and it was clear I was the enemy here.

"I'm sorry, Harold. I'll send him back." Jace responded.

"Go get meat from inside. Just this once." I said to him,

He was really happy and rushed off, scaring them off that they ran away suddenly. I felt really sad for him and his disappointment knew no bounds when he returned as his eyes fell. I could feel his pain and what he was having at the moment was definitely not good at all.

"They left." He said.

"You can keep it out there for them. They would know you dropped it for them. As for you, we need to talk. Meet me inside." I said as I got up and went into the sitting room. My mind was really surprised at what I had seen. Was Jace good in the forest? What has Damon got to do with it?

He soon returned and he looked happy as he said they returned. I told him that I needed explanations and he started off in the really short explanation that I had actually not been expecting. Hearing that Damon had given him a pet was something really wonderful yet strange and how it had gone was another thing.

"The name, Charlie. How did you come up with that? Did Damon say it?" I asked him.

"Oh, not at all. He actually was surprised when I called him Charlie. I have always looked forward to having a pet and calling it that. Damon said they once had one and it died. Garrett explained it too but I'm really sorry, Sir. Would they be in trouble?" He asked for it.

He had been telling the truth but hearing how he was worried about them now was amazing.

"No. It is all good. Just go about your duties and you may retire to your room afterwards." I said to him,

He thanked me and left. After a lot of pondering, I decided that I should start getting to business. I called my Alpha as I had reports to make to him. Upon hearing that we had a live bounty hunter, he was really excited.

"I'll be coming to pick him up." He said to me,

This would definitely not sit down well with the boys, especially with Damon who caught him. But it was going to be fatal if I had kept the secret and I decided that I would have a meeting with the boys tonight to brief them on the latest development.

It was evening already when Jacob came back but there was no sign of the other two. Now, we really needed them here and they were out there. This was already past the time as the streets were roaming with a lot of bad people. Bounty hunters and rogue werewolves alike. They did not have basic training to avoid them all. Jacob and I started trying to reach them to no avail. I panicked and might have gone looking around aimlessly but Jacob stopped me when he reminded me that there was no way I could find them. I waited for a really long time and eventually they picked and assured me they were on their way. Still I waited again and it was already dark.

This was really scary. I had just gotten off the call with Damon when Peter came back. I was ready to lambast him when I noticed the scent around him and he looked weak with his jacket seemingly hiding something underneath.

I reached over and pulled it down and without opening the bandage, I knew what was there. But Peter had no idea what had just happened to him. He has disqualified himself from running for Alpha ever.
