Chapter 68 Could It Be That He Wants to Remarry Her
William finally asked those questions.
William's heart was racing, an inexplicable nervousness swirling in his mind.
"Whether I remarry or not is that any of your business?"
Sophia's voice was cold and indifferent. She shot him a frosty glance and walked past him toward the bathroom door.
Outside the door, three little figures of Emily were clearly visible through the frosted glass.
She knocked on the door and said to the children, "James, Michael, open the door, or mommy's going to get angry."
Hearing her tone, they immediately backed down.
Five minutes later.
Sophia sat fully dressed on the living room sofa, looking at James and Michael standing obediently in front of her with their heads lowered in apology.
"Sorry Mommy, we know we were wrong."
On the table in front of her was a romance novel about a domineering CEO, a new book Amelia had been reading lately.
She must have left it behind while playing with the three children.
Who knew James and Michael would see it and actually try to act out some of the scenes from it?
Emily didn't really understand what had happened, but she followed James and Michael's lead, lowering her head in apology. She stood adorably between them, holding each of their hands.
William changed out of his soaking wet clothes and walked in to see three dejected little faces turning to look at him simultaneously.
The soft, warm yellow light illuminated his features, making him look as handsome as a god.
Outside, he always gave people a strong sense of pressure, but now he had put that all away, though he wasn't indulging the children either.
"James, Michael, not everything written in books is worth learning. Some things set a bad example for Emily."
"Don't do this kind of thing again, understand?"
James and Michael nodded obediently, "We understand."
William then patted Emily's head, "Emily, can you take James and Michael to bed now?"
Emily glanced back at Sophia, who didn't stop her, and then led James and Michael to the master bedroom to sleep.
The living room fell silent again.
Just as his tall, handsome figure sat down across from her, Sophia moved to get up and leave.
Seeing how eager she was to escape from his presence, William's mood plummeted. His fingers curled on his lap as he stared intently at Sophia's cold expression.
"Why are you running? Afraid I'll eat you?"
"Yes, afraid. Afraid you'll say something stupid again and ruin my sleep."
Sophia's answer made William pause mid-sentence.
Just as William was about to speak, he heard a phone vibrate. The coldness on Sophia's face suddenly melted away when she saw the caller ID.
Sophia picked up her phone and went to the balcony outside the living room. Some words drifted in with the night breeze.
Honey... Seraphim... waiting for you...
William's hands clenched into tight fists, his expression beyond just ugly.
Just then, Tony's message came through again.
This time, it came with a screenshot clearly showing: Sophia's marital status was divorced.
[Mr. Smith confirmed that Mrs. Smith hasn't remarried!]
[Mrs. Smith only had that one marriage with you, and hasn't married again since.]
[We still haven't identified the man in those photos. I'll assign more people to investigate.]
Tony seemed even more excited than William.
William turned off his phone screen, his eyes falling on the slender figure by the window.
Sophia had lost more weight recently.
Her already tiny waist now looked like it could be encircled with just one hand.
Knowing that Sophia hadn't remarried, the chains that had been restraining William's behavior gradually disappeared.
A flame began to slowly rise in his heart.
As soon as Sophia hung up the phone, she sensed a familiar cold presence approaching from behind.
She found herself trapped by William against the railing, her delicate eyebrows furrowing slightly, "What are you doing!"
William was looking at her differently now.
Those cold, deep eyes held accusation, "Sophia, you clearly haven't remarried. Why did you lie to me?"
Seeing him like this, Sophia understood that he must have used his power and influence to clear obstacles and investigate her files and records.
She smiled coldly, "What, Mr. Smith finally figured it out?"
"The great Mr. Smith needs this much time to investigate a woman? Doesn't that seem a bit beneath your status?"
"Oh, right, when you were married to me, you suspected I was cheating, and after divorcing me, you questioned whether I immediately remarried. So in your eyes, I'm just a woman who can't live without a man."
Hearing the mockery in her words, William frowned, "I never said that."
Sophia glanced at him coldly, "But isn't that exactly what your actions show?"
William looked down at her pretty, beautiful face. "Sophia, do we really have to fight like this?"
She suddenly looked up and asked back, "Whether I've remarried or not, does it affect you? If it's for the children, regardless of whether I remarry, my love for them won't change. If it's..."
If it were for him, could he possibly want to remarry her?
Sophia shook her head internally.
She must really be tired from researching new products lately to have such a ridiculous thought.
William fell silent, his eyes as deep as the ocean, staring at the carelessness and mockery in Sophia's eyes.
William saw through her unfinished words, his heart also tightening, his domineering and forceful presence enveloping her.
He followed her words and continued, "Why don't you keep going?"
Sophia came back to her senses, "There's nothing more to say."
"It's late, I have things to do tomorrow. If Mr. Smith has nothing else, please leave soon."
Just thinking about the difference between her attitude toward Raymond and toward him made William uncomfortable.
"You want me to leave that badly?"
"Sophia, I flew for several hours to get here..."
To get here and question her about whether she remarried?
Sophia couldn't understand what William was thinking.
In the past, she might have spent energy trying to figure it out, but now she didn't want to.
"Yes, I want you to leave."
"Before summer vacation ends, you'd better not appear in front of me."
William rubbed his throbbing temples, only calming down slightly when he caught her scent.
His body had been strange lately, often feeling tired. If it were just simple insomnia, it wouldn't have such strong aftereffects.
Shaking off William, Sophia went back to her room to rest.
As for whether William would continue sleeping in the study or just leave tonight, it had nothing to do with her.
Tomorrow, an important patient was being sent over.
Her teacher had personally instructed her to take good care of this patient, so she needed to be fully alert.
Who knew that the next day, when she walked into her office, she would see a familiar man?
Sophia: "Why is it you?"
He was actually the important guest her teacher had mentioned!
William sat calmly on the sofa, and when he saw her, there was no surprise or confusion in his eyes.
Clearly, he had known her identity all along.
His voice was low and captivating, "So you really are Professor X."
Sophia no longer denied it.
She looked down at the data report Amelia had just handed her.
ZN Laboratory had the world's most precise testing equipment, capable of analyzing human body data in greater detail.
The one in her hands was from the examination William had done early this morning.
Seeing several fluctuating data points, her expression darkened.
She looked at William with shock in her eyes, "William, have you been fooling around?"
William frowned, "What are you talking about?"
