Chapter 61 Why Did You Cheat
Another secretary?
Sophia remained skeptical about this "secretary."
But one thing was certain - between the secretary and her, William trusted the secretary more, even when she had presented evidence right in front of him.
Sophia sniffed.
There was a jasmine perfume scent on him.
She understood immediately: "A female secretary?"
William's silence was the best answer.
His suit was saturated with the strong jasmine perfume. How close they must have been - perhaps only they knew.
Sophia said coldly, "Let go."
Her bodyguards immediately stepped forward, and the Smith family bodyguards followed suit. Tony watched them nervously, afraid things would get ugly.
"Let's talk this out, talk it out nicely."
Ignoring the possibility of hurting herself, she forcefully broke free from William's grip and said coolly, "Mr. Smith's condition can't be treated here."
William took two steps forward: "Sophia, what are you being difficult about?"
She denied it, "I'm not."
His gaze was certain: "You are."
Sophia: "...Think whatever you want."
A flash of insight crossed William's mind, as if he suddenly caught something important. "You mind the perfume smell on me?"
Her steps halted, her thoughts exposed.
Sophia quickened her pace toward the car. Just as her hand gripped the door handle, she heard something drop behind her.
An attractive voice spoke up.
William asked her, "Is this okay now?"
Sophia turned around, her eyes flickering slightly.
William stood before her like a deity - sharp brows, bright eyes, a high nose bridge, captivating thin lips - a stunning figure between heaven and earth.
His custom-tailored suit lay discarded on the ground, leaving only a black shirt on his body.
His perfect, flawless physique was a natural clothes hanger.
Just standing there, he was destined to be the center of attention.
His hand rested on his shirt collar button, the corner of his eye slightly raised, staring at her meaningfully.
"...Should I continue?"
His low, husky voice brushed past her eardrums, stirring her accelerating heartbeat like an enchanting melody from a misty forest.
Her gaze naturally lifted to meet his eyes, deep as a cold pool.
"William, what are you doing?"
"Didn't you mind the perfume smell on me? It's gone now."
The closer he got to her.
The greater the effect her presence had on him.
William even felt a trace of drowsiness. He opened the car door opposite her and got in.
Sophia fell silent.
This William was becoming more and more shameless.
Tony wasn't surprised by William's behavior at all. Right now, as long as it would let him get close to Sophia and sleep well, he'd sleep outdoors if needed.
On the way back to the lab.
Sophia wanted to make things clear with him, but when she turned her head, she found William had already closed his eyes and fallen asleep, his breathing long and steady with rhythm.
This was his "can't sleep"?
It hadn't even been five minutes since he got in the car!
Men's mouths - they just lie.
Even someone like William was no exception.
Back at the resting place.
Sophia got out first. Before she could close the door, she heard his voice, somewhat hoarse, somewhat tired.
She replied irritably, "Go back and rest!"
There was no movement behind her for a long time.
Sophia walked a few steps but couldn't help turning back.
He still sat in the back seat, refined and elegant, like a noble prince stepping out of an oil painting.
William's eyes were half-closed. Through the car door she hadn't closed, he met her gaze, the intense darkness in his eyes making her heart tremble involuntarily.
Watching her rapidly departing figure.
He slowly got out of the car.
The brief sleep in the car had slightly relaxed his nerves, taut for days, and his rationality returned.
He followed Sophia back to her room. James, Michael, and Emily were all in the house, and they all smiled when they saw him.
James and Michael immediately flew over and hugged his legs.
"Daddy, we missed you so much!"
He rubbed the two children's heads, "Daddy missed you too."
"You play with Emily. I need to talk to your mom."
The three children played in the living room with a specially hired childcare expert watching them. Sophia led him to the small study next door.
"William, what trick are you trying to pull now?"
"Playing the victim won't work on me."
William sat on the single sofa in the small study, his throat tightening, speaking somewhat self-mockingly.
"Sophia, do you hate me this much now?"
"I think during those five years of marriage, I was responsible enough to you and to the family, so why exactly did you... have an affair?"
"Distinguished family background, financial freedom, mutual respect between husband and wife - which of these didn't I provide? Why did you betray the children and me?"
"Is that man outside so important? Important enough that you'd abandon your husband and children to be with him?"
William had always been cold-natured. He saw through many things but wouldn't spell them out, always leaving some room in everything.
But only when it came to Sophia...
After William finished speaking, he sank into sadness, unable to pull himself out.
Sophia only felt a flame surge from her heart straight to her brain, the thread of rationality instantly snapping!
She had an affair?
This was truly the funniest joke she'd heard in years!
She grabbed William's tie directly, trapping him on the single sofa, her angry emotions dispersing the distance between them.
"William, who exactly had the affair?"
"It was clearly you who abandoned me again and again for your Alice. The one who truly betrayed the family was always you - what does it have to do with me!"
Sensing her intense emotional fluctuation, William lowered his eyes to hide the gleam in them. A small crack opened in the mystery in his heart.
He continued following her words.
"The second year after James and Michael were born, on Valentine's Day, where did you go, who did you meet, what happened..."
Sophia was about to answer his question when she suddenly realized she was being led into a trap.
Thinking carefully, from the moment William entered the study until now, every movement, every look, even every sentence he spoke was exactly like him at the negotiating table.
Progressive steps, manipulating emotions, making you unknowingly walk into his trap, and become prey for him to control.
She released his tie and straightened up, pulling back the distance between them, re-examining all his behavior since he appeared today.
Both were smart people.
From each other's words, they immediately knew the crux of the problem.
They were both suspecting: the other had an affair!
Sophia suspected he had a romance with Alice, so who was William suspecting her of having an affair with?
The second year after the children were born... Valentine's Day... A fragment of blurry memory flashed through her mind.
The electric-like thoughts made her heart tremble, recalling that unspeakable past event from distant memory.
Her voice was like a stuck recording tape. She heard William ask why she wasn't speaking, but she couldn't tell him about this matter.
"This involves someone else's life. I can't say."
"But I didn't betray the marriage, didn't betray you, and didn't abandon my husband and children. What you're saying doesn't hold up at all."
Sophia's words sank into William's heart like a boulder.
His body tensed slightly. Through the fitted shirt, one could vaguely see the outline of his eight-pack abs and the bulging veins on his arms.
"What about Raymond?"
"The night of his birthday... You went to find him, didn't you?"
