Chapter 54 Pregnant Again

Chapter 54 Pregnant Again

William actually went to find Professor X.

X was just an external alias for Sophia.

Only insiders knew the true identity of "Professor X."

It was actually her.

"Mr. Smith came early this morning to inquire about 'Professor X's' visiting hours. He wants 'him' to help treat someone."

"Here's the patient's information."

"The patient has facial scarring from an injury. Many cosmetic procedures haven't worked, so they're turning to our lab."

Amelia handed over a file.

She was one of the few people who knew about Sophia and William's relationship.

Sophia opened the file.

Unsurprisingly, she saw Alice's name.

She had thought William insisted on coming this time because he was worried about James and Michael.

Outside the window, bright sunshine filled the room, driving away the chill, but it couldn't dispel the shadow and coldness in Sophia's heart.

William returned to the hospital room with the lunch he'd just packed, his eyes immediately going to the sofa, but he didn't see her.

The bodyguard was standing by the bed and left when he saw William return.

As Sophia entered, she met a pair of deep eyes. Expressionless, she looked away and sat down by the bed.

William's thin lips parted slightly, "I bought food. You should eat something first."

She spoke politely but distantly: "Thanks, but no need."

William didn't understand why Sophia had suddenly reverted to her previous manner.

The lab's hospital room was equipped with a kitchen, dining area, bathroom, and shower, plus a companion sofa.

The food he'd packed was on the dining table.

Sophia wouldn't eat, and William had no appetite either.

The room was completely silent, where you could clearly hear your own heartbeat.

Fortunately, James and Michael finally woke up.

William and Sophia immediately gathered around. James and Michael were truly frightened this time and started crying as soon as they saw them.

"Michael, don't be scared. Daddy's here."

"James, don't cry. Mommy chased away the bad people. They'll never appear in front of James again."

Each held a child, trying to comfort them, as tears silently fell from the adults' eyes.

Sophia's shoulder was wet with James's tears. Compared to Michael's loud crying, this child cried so quietly that it was heartbreaking.

Once the children's emotions stabilized.

She had people give James and Michael comprehensive examinations. Confirming all indicators were within safe ranges, her anxious heart finally settled.

Having just woken up, James and Michael were very hungry.

Sophia had Amelia prepare some light meals to be sent over. She and William each fed one child.

The day quickly slipped away through their fingers. Seeing them by their side, James and Michael's emotions calmed down.

Neither asked James and Michael about their memories of Sunset Village. The children's bodies clearly showed fear from those few hours.

But at night, problems emerged.

James and Michael started sweating cold sweat constantly, their clothes soaked through.

Sophia and William had to work together, using hot water to wipe the children down and change their clothes. It wasn't until late at night that they stopped crying and fussing.

Her clothes were also soaked with sweat from all this effort, and William wasn't much better off.

James and Michael were very dependent on her, and William was now.

Because they were twins, James and Michael shared a certain connection, when one woke with a start, the other would wake up too.

ZN Lab's location was special.

Unless she gave permission, outsiders simply couldn't get in.

Even Tony couldn't deliver William's change of clothes.

Seeing that the children couldn't be left alone, Sophia had someone send two sets of clothes for William.

Taking off his tailored suit and changing into ordinary sportswear, William looked a few years younger, with more of a youthful air.

William's hair was half-dry from being rubbed with a fresh towel.

Afraid of waking the children, he didn't use a hairdryer.

The hair on his forehead was still slightly dripping water, sliding down his refined features into his collar.

When he came out, Sophia was preparing to return to her own room to change clothes. Before leaving, William called out to her.

His voice was deep and steady: "Do you know Professor X?"

Sophia looked at him without denying it.

Those eyes shone with a brilliant light opposite to the dim hospital room lighting, reflecting the moonlight outside the window.

He walked step by step to stand before her, his handsome eyes slightly narrowed and moist as he gazed steadily at her.

"Alice, the scar on her face is quite serious. She just came to ask us for help."

"I heard Professor X has newly developed a Beauty Pill that can quickly repair skin."

Sophia gave a cold laugh: "What are you trying to say?"

She hadn't heard him finish, but her rejection was already immediate and firm.

"I don't mean anything else, it's just that Alice previously helped Michael..."

Before William could finish, he heard Sophia's icy voice, filled with deep disgust.

"I wish Alice would die. How could I possibly waste effort having someone help her? All these consequences are from her destroying other people's families, hurting other people's children - she brought this on herself."

"The poison last time, the drug this time - clearly both related to Alice!"

"Whatever your relationship with her is, I won't let her off."

Sophia's tone was firm, directly stating her position.

She had already had the legal team organize the phone recordings and Helena's testimony. Alice going in to reunite with the Rivera family was just a matter of time.

As for William...

Catching the mockery and contempt in her eyes, William's heart suddenly trembled. He wanted to explain his behavior just now, but clearly, Sophia wasn't giving him that chance.

"You're in here because of James and Michael."

"I also trust you, letting you come over. I think you should understand what's important - don't put the cart before the horse."

She passed by his side, her wrist caught by William.

He had a cold, refined, noble face as he lowered his voice to tell her, "You've worked hard this time. Just connect me with Professor X, and I'll handle the rest, including the follow-up."

Sophia struggled while refusing: "I'm not willing."

"Harm others, and you harm yourself - she hurt my children, she must pay a hundred, a thousand times the price!"

Sophia's emotions were very agitated.

William, considering Sophia's emotions, didn't dare say anything too harsh. He took a deep breath, adjusting his emotions to have a proper talk with her.

"I've already had people investigate James and Michael's situation. The evidence on your end also needs to be verified again."

Her eyes paused for a moment, her mind blank for a few seconds.

Hearing William's words, she felt for an instant that there was a generation gap between them, spanning two different worlds.

A strong sense of nausea surged up from her throat.

She pushed William away and rushed straight to the bathroom. The steam inside hadn't dissipated yet, and William's changed clothes were still piled on the rack.

Having eaten nothing all day, her stomach was empty.

Sophia couldn't vomit anything up.

She turned on the cold water and splashed her face. The coolness made her thoughts increasingly clear, and her accumulated disappointment in William reached its peak at this moment.

William stood outside the bathroom door, hearing her uncomfortable dry heaving, his mind flashing back to the disgust and revulsion in her eyes when she looked at him just now.

His hands at his sides clenched into fists.

Sophia came out after washing her face, her lips pale, damp hair stuck to her cheeks, adding two or three parts of weak and powerless beauty.

Her lower abdomen ached slightly, and she instinctively covered her stomach.

William reached out to support her, but was avoided him.

His eyes darkened as he looked at her hand protecting her abdomen. A suspicion flashed through his mind, followed by an inexplicable sharp pain in his heart.

"Are you... pregnant again?"

After speaking, he pulled back the distance between them.

William's eyes showed self-mockery, also a cold laugh at himself.

Sophia's hand supported the wall. Having eaten nothing all day, her body was very weak, her stomach cramping painfully.

The world before her eyes began to detach, her vision blurring.

She suddenly slowly raised her hand toward his face...
