Chapter 210: Make Them Pay!
Upon learning that Lucas had gotten into trouble, Sophia flew to Seraphim that same night.
She had wanted to take Emily with her, but William volunteered to look after the children. Given the urgency of the situation, she could only agree.
When she landed at Seraphim airport,it was dawn already.
The news had come from Joe, who was abroad on business. Throughout the journey, Sophia had kept her eyes closed, contemplating how to handle Lucas's situation.
As soon as the plane came to a stop, she looked through the window and saw a dozen vehicles—all modified bulletproof cars, with a group of men in black suits waiting beside them.
The rear door of the center vehicle was pulled open from the outside.
A man radiating murderous intent stepped out. In stark contrast to the vicious scar on his face, he held a woman's winter coat in his hands.
Compared to the pleasant early autumn weather back home, Seraphim was considerably colder.
As soon as she exited the cabin, Joe was already waiting at the bottom of the stairs.
Sophia didn't take the coat. She asked directly, "Where is Lucas now?"
Joe's voice grew heavy. "Dark Abyss City."
Those beautiful eyes instantly filled with the darkness before a storm. Sophia's voice was cold. "Let's go there now."
She couldn't wait another moment!
Lucas had rushed to Seraphim because there was finally news about his biological sister, who had been abandoned by their mother shortly after birth.
On the way to their destination, Joe filled her in on everything he had subsequently discovered.
"Lucas was deceived. The necklace the girl had was indeed the one he gave his sister, but that girl wasn't his sister."
The girl was a gambling addict who had scavenged the necklace from a pile of corpses. When she accidentally learned that Lucas was offering a large reward to find his sister, and seeing that the necklace matched his description, she decided to impersonate her.
Sophia knew Lucas had been searching for his sister all along. She had even pulled many strings to help him, but the leads had always gone nowhere.
She asked, puzzled, "Lucas is a doctor. Even though he hasn't seen his sister in years, he shouldn't have been so easily fooled."
Joe sighed. "That's exactly the problem!"
"He did figure out the girl wasn't his sister, so he gave her some money and got the address where she found the locket. Then he actually went to Dark Abyss City alone. Don't you think that's stupid? What kind ofdangerous thingshaven't happened in Dark Abyss City? With his looks, going to Dark Abyss City, those people will eat him alive and leave nothing behind."
As Sophia listened to Joe, she zoomed in on the 3D map of Dark Abyss City displayed on her tablet.
This was information painstakingly delivered by a lookout Joe had planted inside.
Just looking at the images, one could imagine the grand scale of the interior layout.
It was essentially an independent city.
Sophia closed her eyes and, with her exceptional memory, mentally traced the entire layout of Dark Abyss City.
Soon, she had imprinted all the information in her mind.
She instructed in a low voice, "Act according to the situation when we get there."
Dark Abyss City.
This was a city that never sleeps, and Seraphim's notorious Lawless Zone.
Blood and violence filled this place. A single disagreement could cost you your life. it drew together every force working in Seraphim's shadows.
Here, even if the most chaotic and terrifying fights broke out, no one would dare to help. Even hospitals had blacklisted this area.
At nightfall, this territory would fill with drug addicts in various states of delirium. Brawls were the norm here. Even when people died, their bodies would just be thrown to wild dogs to be devoured.
Sophia looked at the dilapidated houses outside the car window. This land had been destroyed by artillery fire a century ago, with rubble everywhere.
From the moment the car entered this territory, homeless people lying scattered on the roadside began to stagger to their feet. Their eyes were filled with chilling evil, breeding all kinds of sinful thoughts.
The deeper they went, the more people there were.
Clothes were scattered on both sides of the road. Men with clouded eyes and twisted bodies emerged from broken houses like walking corpses.
Some picked up stones, trying to smash the car windows.
However, all of Sophia's vehicles had heavy weapons installed on top. Whoever raised their hand would have a gun barrel aimed at them the next second.
Though these homeless people weren't clear-headed, they were all quite afraid of death. After seeing the weapons, they put down their stones one by one and returned to their broken houses to continue their misdeeds.
They reached the entrance to Dark Abyss City.
The cars stopped outside the innermost charred building.
Just one door's distance separated two vastly different worlds.
Outside was a seemingly desolate slum; inside was a magnificent, gilded place of sinful pleasure.
Sophia wore tight black elastic clothing with matching leather boots, with hidden blades on both sides of the shoes. Over this, she wore a knee-length windbreaker with two silver pistols tucked at the back of her waist.
The two men guarding the door of the black house held black submachine guns. As soon as they saw Joe, their expressions changed, and they hurriedly notified the people inside.
Joe was a prominent figure in Seraphim.
His adoptive father had once been the king ruling this country's underworld. Later, he was betrayed by his subordinates, and half of his power was split away. Joe was adopted during that period.
Now, Joe had inherited everything his adoptive father had.
Besides the people in Dark Abyss City, all the forces that had been split from his adoptive father's control had been reclaimed by him one by one.
Joe didn't even need to show his face or speak. Just the emblems on those vehicles were enough to intimidate others.
Joe had originally planned to storm in directly with his people, there was no one he couldn't get back. But he considered Lucas's condition.
If Lucas had truly experienced something terrible and it triggered his illness, then the only person who could quickly stabilize his emotions was Sophia.
Soon, a bearded man emerged from the black house, followed by many tall bodyguards carrying submachine guns.
When he saw the signature scar on Joe's face, his scalp immediately tingled.
Seeing Joe standing beside Sophia in a protective stance, the bearded man couldn't quite figure out her identity.
He took the initiative to speak. "May I ask what brings you here?"
Sophia replied in fluent Seraphim language, "Looking for someone."
The bearded man knew that just yesterday, his subordinates had delivered a batch of "new goods"—all with top-tier physiques and looks.
Most importantly, there were two men among them who were the most beautiful he had ever seen in his life. Even he couldn't help but feel tempted!
His gaze wavered. If his subordinates had accidentally kidnapped someone belonging to this big shot, that would be trouble.
After all, last night's "welcome ceremony" for that batch of goods had only just ended, and inside was still in chaos.
Seeing the bearded man's changing expression, Sophia's eyes sharpened, and she raised her hand slightly.
The next second, the black-suited bodyguards behind her immediately raised their submachine guns, and those remaining in the vehicles activated the heavy weapons on the car roofs.
"Don't get excited, don't get excited. Let's talk this out."
"I'll take you inside to find the person right away."
Anyone entering Dark Abyss City had to surrender their weapons, their life and death absolutely controlled by those inside.
But this rule didn't apply in the face of absolute power.
The bearded man stopped his subordinates who wanted to search them and led Sophia and Joe to the room where the "new goods" were held.
In the huge cage, over a hundred people were imprisoned.
Not an inch of intact skin could be seen on anyone's body—all covered with dense blue-purple bruises.
Joe's eyes darkened. "Sophia, over there."
When Sophia looked in the direction he pointed, her eyes suddenly constricted, her heart tightened, and towering fury erupted from her.
"Make them pay!"
