Chapter 92 The Truth About Infidelity
William's expression grew darker and darker.
The year they got married, when William noticed Sophia getting close to him, he tried to keep his distance, but was still drawn to her.
But all that unconscious caring came crashing down after he saw those videos.
Before Sophia could push him away, William revealed the reason for his subsequent cold attitude.
"The second year of our marriage, I received videos of you and... Raymond going in and out of hotels multiple times."
Sophia froze in place at his words.
She caught the implication in William's words, her eyes widening as she looked at him in disbelief.
"You suspected me of cheating?"
William had believed Sophia at the time, thinking these videos were revenge from competitors who couldn't beat him.
These people couldn't defeat him, so they tried to strike at him through his wife.
Sophia was Mrs. Smith of the Smith family. Her behavior represented the Smith family and Peace Group, as well as his dignity as her husband.
Whether the videos were real or fake, they needed to be verified first to avoid being caught off guard later.
He handed those videos to professional technicians to check for the possibility of manipulation.
But the final result was: no signs of manipulation.
Those videos... were all real!
William looked down at her and said, "Sophia, I didn't believe it at first either, but those videos are real."
"You and Raymond entered Liberty Tower Hotel one after the other, and then left the same room one after the other. You even... changed your clothes."
Any man would find it hard not to think the worst.
Sophia finally realized that William's "abandoning husband and child" meant he actually believed this.
Sophia's fists clenched!
Anger burned in her chest as Sophia demanded, "Why didn't you just ask me directly?"
William suddenly clenched his fist, a hint of coldness flashing in his eyes. "And then get divorced after asking?"
As sharp pain exploded deep in her brain, Sophia suddenly thought of something: someone as proud as William had actually been willing to endure a "cheating wife" for five years?
This shocked her even more than finding out he had cheated!
William gritted his teeth, veins bulging on his clenched fists. He struggled to control his emotions and arrogantly turned his face away.
In the silent study, time seemed to freeze.
After a long while, William's voice quietly spoke up, "The videos are fake, right?"
A faint hope was hidden beneath his steady tone.
Putting together William's words, Sophia thought of what happened that year.
She slowly said, "Those videos should still be around, right?"
William's body stiffened, his thin lips pressed tightly together, silently confirming it.
He led her to the safe in the bookshelf, his voice low. "The password is the child's birthday."
Sophia hadn't expected him to keep the videos together with those confidential documents. Not wanting to think more about it, she opened the safe and immediately spotted the black external hard drive.
She calmly walked to the desk, where William's laptop sat quietly.
Sophia closed her eyes and opened those videos.
They were all surveillance footage from hotel corridors.
Time passed minute by minute.
By the time she finally finished watching all the videos, her emotions had calmed, and she had her answer.
Sophia's tone was indifferent. "The videos are real."
A wave of overwhelming pain suddenly flashed through William's eyes. He quickly turned away as her gaze came toward him.
He hadn't spoken, standing rigidly in place waiting for her explanation.
Many things happened in the second year of their marriage. Sophia had lost a friend forever and saved an elderly person with extraordinary status and power.
The startup funding for the lab came from the fee this elderly person paid her.
It could be said that the lab's smooth establishment as Seraphim was all due to the protection this elder provided.
So she also promised them to keep this matter buried in her heart forever.
William's body muscles tensed and spasmed, his eyes bloodshot, his whole body radiating suppressed emotion.
William: "Why exactly?"
She couldn't explain why she and Raymond came out of the same room, because even Sophia had only learned from watching this video that Raymond had also been in that room.
"The videos are real, but I didn't cheat. Sometimes, seeing isn't believing, William."
Her thick, long lashes covered her eyes. William couldn't see through her true emotions beneath the calm surface.
His pride wouldn't allow him to compromise again and again.
William looked at Sophia, his deep eyes growing darker and darker, anger rising in his heart.
He stepped back two steps, actively creating distance between himself and Sophia.
William echoed her words: "I didn't cheat either."
Sophia glanced at him and said coldly with a sneer, "So all those feeds Alice posted were fake?"
William frowned. "What feeds?"
William directly opened his personal phone. He opened his friend's contacts and showed them to her. "Alice isn't my friend."
Sophia didn't speak, but an unclear tension lingered between the two of them.
The first person to give in was William.
"The videos, the feeds—I'll investigate everything thoroughly."
"Sophia, if it turns out everything was a misunderstanding, can we..."
Sophia said decisively, "No, we can't."
Her voice was filled with no room for negotiation.
Even after Sophia left the Smith Mansion by car, William remained in his original position.
He stood by the study window, watching her leave without hesitation, his body filled with lingering loneliness.
Tony received William's message and immediately arranged for technicians to investigate Alice's feeds.
An hour later.
Seeing the content Tony sent, William's face turned terrifyingly dark.
He said angrily, "Bring Alice here!"
As the head of the century-old Smith family, there were bound to be some traitors.
The dark room existed to interrogate these people.
Alice was taken from her hospital room at Peace Group's private hospital by the Smith family's bodyguards.
Her plastic surgery face, ruined by a hundred slaps, was wrapped in bandages.
Seeing William, the joy in her eyes hadn't had time to spread before a document was thrown at her.
It contained the fake feeds she had deliberately created, printed out by Tony.
Guilty, Alice didn't dare look William in the eye.
Just then, another woman covered in luxury brands was also brought to the Smith Mansion's dark room by the Smith family's bodyguards.
"What are you doing? Let me go! Do you know who I am!"
