Chapter 72 Attacked Upon Returning Home
He was very good to the three children. Not only did he eat, drink, and play with them every day, but he also bought them all kinds of interesting toys.
When he learned that James was interested in astronomy, he ordered an expensive telescope for him that very day.
Sophia came to give William his final checkup. You could tell she'd been in a good mood lately—there was always a smile at the corners of her mouth.
William's sharp jawline tensed, creating a refined profile as he held out a black card to her.
Sophia looked at him, confused. "What's this for?"
He said flatly, "I heard from James that your honey... ordered him an astronomical telescope. The Smith family kids don't accept favors for nothing. Use this money to pay him back for me."
Sophia had already thanked Harper and even ordered an expensive sports car for her in her own name.
She waved her hand. "No need. My honey doesn't need this little bit of money."
The mood around William instantly dropped to freezing point.
He closed his eyes. "Whether he needs it or not is his business. My children, William's children, also don't need this little bit of money."
The black card was ultimately left behind.
The next day, William left the lab with Tony for a business trip to another country.
Sophia had pretty much wrapped up her work at the lab.
The three children clearly preferred life in Empire City. After finishing up the remaining tasks, she took the kids and Harper back home on a private jet. Raymond, who was gradually recovering, also traveled with them.
As soon as they landed, Raymond was picked up by the Roberts family.
Harper also needed to return to the Anderson Villa first, so the group parted ways at Empire City airport.
On the way back to the Johnson Villa, the children were all very happy.
The route from the airport to the Johnson Villa passed through a stretch of mountain road. At this point, several black cars were constantly closing in on their vehicle.
Suddenly, Sophia keenly sensed something wrong with the traffic flow. She reminded Monkey, who was driving, to be careful.
He gripped the steering wheel tightly. "Hold on tight, I'll have someone shake them off."
Considering there were three children in the car, Monkey drove extra carefully.
Michael's face was pale as he clutched Sophia's arm, his eyes full of panic. "Mommy..."
Sophia held Michael in her arms. "Michael, don't be scared. I'm here."
Emily's eyes were brimming with tears. She could sense the danger but still held back and didn't let the tears fall.
She held Sophia's hand and comforted her instead. "Mommy, don't be scared."
Sophia was surprised by Emily's reaction, her eyes full of heartache. "Mommy's not scared, and I'm not scared either."
She glanced at James. "James, are you okay?"
He was the calmest of the three children and was currently operating something on his watch. Hearing her question, he shook his head.
"Mommy, I'm fine. I just sent Daddy our location. Daddy will come save us soon."
Sophia didn't tell him that William wasn't in the country.
She knew William was a source of security for James and Michael, so she nodded in agreement. "Daddy will come save us."
Sophia carefully checked all three children's seatbelts, and only after confirming they were all fastened did she continue, "If you're scared, just close your eyes. Mommy will protect you. We'll be safe soon."
After calming the three children's emotions, her face turned cold as she looked out at the clearly armed vehicles outside the window.
The bodyguards in the cars ahead and behind had already driven to separate those black cars, but there were still some that slipped through, speeding toward their car in the middle.
Monkey quickly changed direction, steadily avoiding those vehicles.
"Sophia, our people will be here in ten minutes. You protect yourself and the kids, leave the rest to me."
"Be careful."
The black cars chasing from behind had been stopped by the bodyguards.
Just as Sophia breathed a sigh of relief, she noticed more than a dozen cars parked at the turn ahead!
The other side was clearly playing for keeps. As soon as they spotted them, they sped up and charged forward, looking like they wouldn't leave them any way out.
Sophia shouted urgently, "Monkey, watch out!"
The car quickly changed direction to avoid the impact, and Monkey hit the gas pedal, driving to a safe area.
Sophia was so tense her spine tingled, her heart nearly jumping out of her throat.
She wasn't afraid for herself, but with three children in the car, she was worried they might get hurt.
The Johnson family bodyguards weren't pushovers either. After dealing with the black cars behind them, they immediately caught up and directly rammed those ambushing black cars off the cliff beside them.
The sound of crashes suddenly rang out!
More and more cars gathered on the small road, with sounds of collisions and angry shouts constantly appearing.
Just then!
Cars rushed down from the mountains on both sides of the small road, surrounding the car she and the children were in.
Sophia's heart suddenly tightened. She thought there were more people arranged by the other side, but then she saw those cars directly forcing the black cars to stop.
The leader approached respectfully and bowed his head, offering a phone.
"Mrs. Smith, we're from the Smith family."
"Mr. Smith is very worried about you and the children. He wants to speak with you."
As if knowing she wouldn't trust them, he turned the phone screen toward the car window. It was indeed William's face on the other end.
"Are you and the children hurt?"
After confirming there was no immediate danger, Sophia first checked on the three children's safety.
She shook her head. "We're fine."
Seeing that she and the children were all safe, William's anxious heart finally settled back into place.
From the video background, William was currently at an airport, with a plane that the Smith family had pulled strings to arrange on short notice, parked not far away.
William had been at the negotiation table when he received the call. Just as they were about to complete the year's biggest acquisition deal, upon hearing about Sophia's situation, he immediately had people arrange the fastest flight back home, regardless of everything else.
The ambushing black cars, except for those that had been knocked off the cliff, were all tied up by the Smith family's people.
"Mrs. Smith, we will definitely investigate this matter thoroughly."
The implication was that the Smith family would be taking these people away.
Sophia's cold, sharp almond-shaped eyes swept over each of the black-clothed men kneeling on the ground.
When she saw the man in the middle with a terrifying scar on his face, Sophia's searching gaze suddenly froze.
This man... seemed familiar!
She narrowed her eyes and studied the man's face carefully. Sensing her gaze, he also looked up at her.
His beast-like eyes stared at her intently, revealing a disgusting smile.
That look really was similar to Alice's... Wait! The Rivera family!
Sophia's mind suddenly became clear!
She remembered!
She had seen this man with the terrifying scar on his face before in the Rivera family materials that Rat had sent her!
On the other end of the phone, William noticed the change in Sophia's expression in the video.
He asked her, "Did you discover something?"
Sophia withdrew her gaze and looked meaningfully at William on the other end. "I've seen that man before."
