Chapter 64 Dad's Identity Can No Longer Be Hidden
Lucas and William sat in the living room, staring coldly at each other, with the latter clearly dominating the atmosphere.
James and Michael squatted nearby with Emily, looking up curiously at them, not understanding what they were doing.
Emily's round eyes rolled around. She poked James's arm and said in a sweet, soft voice, "James, your daddy isn't talking."
James nodded, "Yes, and your Uncle Lucas isn't talking either."
Michael looked confused, "Are they playing Red Light, Green Light?"
Sophia completely ignored Lucas and William, taking the children back to the dining room and telling them to eat their breakfast properly.
Lucas was called away by a phone call from the lab.
Before leaving, he glared hard at William and threw out a threat.
"Don't get too smug!"
William returned his look with a cold, indifferent glance, calm and composed, like a lion being provoked by a fox, not taking his threat to heart at all.
Sophia, who was taking care of the children, glanced back at Lucas, wondering to herself: What did William say to push him to this point?
Lucas walked up to her and deliberately raised his voice.
"Sophia, you and your current brother-in-law better stay happy together. Don't give certain bad men any chances!"
He left right after saying that, leaving behind a perpetual cold air machine in the living room, staring at Sophia with deep, cool eyes.
James and Michael were thrilled to wake up early and find their dad at home. They quickly pulled him to the dining table to eat.
In front of the children, Sophia was always a gentle, loving mother and didn't specifically refuse William joining them at the table.
James and Michael were busy getting him utensils, sharing their favorite dishes with him, and not forgetting to serve food to her and Emily, too.
Through increasingly longer periods together, Sophia's relationship with James and Michael grew closer, and they showed their true personalities in front of her.
Especially with Emily, their little treasure, around.
The time the family of four spent together was always filled with laughter and joy.
"Dad, do you have time today?"
After a good night's sleep, William's spirits had improved considerably.
William looked up, patted Michael's little head as he leaned in, and asked with concern, "What is it? Tell me."
Michael couldn't wait to tell him, his voice full of anticipation.
"Mom's taking us to the car theme park today. Dad, if you have time, we can all go together!"
Sophia was about to use William's busy work schedule as an excuse to reason with Michael.
But William spoke up first and agreed.
He not only had Tony bring in his luggage, but also immediately changed clothes to go to the amusement park with them, looking relaxed and carefree.
However, just as they arrived at the amusement park entrance, William received a call from the hospital where Alice was.
Whatever was said on the other end made William's expression change, and he looked at Sophia with a complicated gaze.
"Alice seems to have had an incident on the operating table."
Sophia calmly asked him, "So what?"
Back then, if she hadn't wanted Alice to die too easily, she wouldn't have switched out the "Three-Day Death Pill" for the bone-gnawing, disfiguring drug at the last moment.
If she really died on the plastic surgery operating table, it would just be karma for all her evil deeds.
William patiently explained to Sophia, "It's a matter of life and death. I'll go check on the situation first, and next time I'll come with you and the kids."
Seeing her silence, he crouched down to explain the reason to the three children.
James and Michael nodded obediently.
Emily didn't understand, but seeing James and Michael nod, she nodded too, adding a bright smile as a bonus.
William affectionately patted her little head.
After calming the children's emotions, a black Maybach had already stopped at the amusement park entrance, with Tony waiting there with bodyguards.
William got in the car and rolled down the window.
Looking at the children waving goodbye to him at the amusement park entrance, while Sophia kept her back turned to him the whole time, seemingly without any reaction at all.
He sighed inwardly as William's car slowly drove away.
At that moment, Tony suddenly received a long-awaited message.
He immediately turned around and said, "Mr. Smith, I have news about Mrs. Smith's current husband that you asked me to investigate!"
After leaving Rain Village, William had Tony investigate Sophia's current husband, but someone seemed to be deliberately obstructing them, so they never found any concrete information.
Visiting the villagers in the village also yielded no information about "Emily's father."
Ralph, whom she had previously admitted to, was clearly just a cover - he loved his wife and son dearly.
Learning his wife didn't have much time left, he would rather die with her than possibly have any ambiguous relationship with Sophia.
That person called "Monkey" was also investigated and confirmed not to be in a marital relationship with Sophia, but rather a business partner and friend.
Basically, every man around Sophia had been investigated, but they still couldn't find any information about a "current husband."
The trail went cold, and Tony had been troubled by this for a long time.
He didn't expect to have a pleasant surprise today.
"After Mrs. Smith left Empire City, she took a private plane to the lab every three months, bringing the child to go shopping and dining with a man."
The photo was blurry, retrieved from a roadside dashcam, showing only the man's back, no front view.
Tony had a bold guess, "Mr. Smith, is there a possibility that Mrs. Smith actually hasn't... remarried?"
Otherwise, with the Smith family's influence both domestically and internationally, how could they have investigated for so long without finding any information?
Unless... this person never existed in the first place!
Hearing this, William's eyes were sharp and penetrating.
He had reviewed every detail since reuniting with Sophia during late nights - whether it was Emily getting hurt or her encountering problems, her so-called current husband had never appeared once.
When he previously brought Emily to the company, he had also tried to get information from the child, and Emily clearly didn't know anything about having a father.
This morning, he had deliberately tested Lucas too...
At this moment, William kept asking himself: Did Sophia really remarry?
His voice was as cold as ever, "As fast as possible, keep investigating."
Tony: "Understood!"
-
After flying for over two hours, they finally arrived at the location of the world's best plastic surgery hospital.
Sophia tried hard to suppress her anger at William's "backing out" and spent the day with the children, playing on all the attractions they wanted to try.
After playing all day, the children fell asleep at the dinner table while eating.
She and the household staff bathed the three children together and carried them back to their rooms. After they were sound asleep, Sophia went to take a bath.
After walking around all day, she drew herself a bath to relax properly.
She had only been soaking for a short while when Sophia heard frantic knocking at the door. She frowned and opened her eyes, put on a bathrobe, and went to answer the door.
"Mrs. Smith, Mr. Smith has been..."
Tony didn't need to finish.
Sophia had already smelled the strong aphrodisiac perfume on him.
The smell was somewhat familiar.
It was like the special perfume that ZN Lab had previously developed specifically for certain wealthy people in Aetheria who couldn't perform.
Sophia stepped aside, letting Tony help the person inside first.
She crossed her arms over her chest, examining William on the sofa. His face was covered in cold sweat, his shirt already soaked through and clinging to his body.
William's well-maintained physique from years of exercise was now clearly visible.
Even more noticeable was...
She asked with interest, "What happened here?"
William had relied on his strong willpower to control his body's reaction to the drug, but it all came crashing down the moment he saw her.
Tony was also sweating profusely from nervousness throughout the journey.
"Mr. Smith's schedule was leaked. A competitor ambushed us on the way to the hospital this afternoon. Their background isn't clean, and they took the opportunity to drug Mr. Smith."
"We already had the accompanying doctor check him on the way. The drug is too strong - none of the medicine the doctor prescribed worked."
"ZN Lab has the best doctors. Please, Mrs. Smith, help us out and have someone take a look at Mr. Smith."
Tony spoke very quickly, afraid that any delay might cause problems.
Sophia raised an eyebrow, unhurried, with a hint of teasing and mockery in her voice.
"It's nothing serious, just needs to be... relieved."
"Don't worry, this drug won't have any side effects on the body."
