Chapter 320 Taking Action Against the Turner Family
Chapter 320 Taking Action Against the Turner Family
The key was deliberately left behind.
Although she had only glanced at the architectural blueprints on Logan's office wall, she had already memorized the layout.
The direction William had turned and run toward earlier was a dead end - clearly not a good escape route.
He deliberately caused such a commotion in the factory, obviously not afraid of getting beaten up, seemed as if he was using himself as bait.
When William picked up Sophia's key, he thought she had accidentally dropped it there and wanted to return it to her.
But now, looking at it this way, he realized.
It turned out Sophia had left it there on purpose.
However, William really hadn't expected that she would return to this not-yet-completed experimental base.
He had wanted to rest here briefly before leaving, but just as he closed his eyes for a moment, he heard someone push the door open.
If he weren't familiar enough with her footsteps and silhouette, the blade in his hand would probably already be buried in her body.
Sophia asked him, "What are you doing in Forton County?"
William's lips were pale as he spoke jokingly, "Shouldn't you bandage me up first?"
"You won't die."
Though she said that, she still pointed out where the medical kit was.
When she saw William take off his entire shirt right in front of her, Sophia's gaze didn't flinch or look away.
She watched coldly the entire process of him bandaging his wound.
Recently, William's method of treating his own wounds had gone from clumsy to skilled. After cleaning the debris from the wound and applying some emergency medication, he just left the wound exposed to the air.
He turned to look at Sophia across from him. There was no trace of concern in her eyes. He thought about how in the past, even when he had just a small cut, she would nervously come over to bandage it for him.
Now the wound was ten times larger, yet it couldn't earn him a single word of concern. William felt a sour churn in his chest.
He pulled out a pink lollipop from his jacket pocket - candy that Emily had secretly slipped into his jacket pocket back in Empire City after seeing his wounds.
Pink candy had always been Emily's favorite.
William didn't like the taste of nicotine, but today he had smoked quite a bit at there, all of it the cheapest kind.
His mouth felt bitter and unpleasant.
The moment she saw the candy wrapper, Sophia's expression changed slightly, recognizing it as the lollipop she had bought for Emily.
No wonder such a big box had lost half its contents so quickly - Emily had been stuffing them all into William's pockets.
Standing in the main building of this newly erected ZN experimental base, William deeply realized that the current Sophia was no longer the little girl who used to leave lights and food for him.
There were too many emotions in the depths of those eyes. Sophia didn't want to probe his meaning.
She just reminded him to buy his own candy in the future and not to eat candy with this wrapper in front of people.
"This candy flavor was customized by me for Emily."
"The candy factory is quite famous in Seraphim. Each customized candy wrapper is unique—anyone who cares to check can find out."
William immediately understood what she meant.
His brows furrowed as he recalled whether anyone nearby had noticed when he unwrapped it today.
Either way, her reminder put him on alert.
The candy in his mouth was the last one.
The previous candy wrappers were all still in his pocket. Burning them with a lighter later would be the safest option.
Sophia didn't even ask what he was doing or what he planned to do. It was getting late, and tomorrow there would be lots of experimental equipment arriving that she needed to inspect, test, and approve one by one.
"The door's there. Leave as soon as you've rested."
Regarding Anne's matter. Currently, there is only Logan's side of the story. She needed to have someone investigate thoroughly before dealing with it.
If it were true...
Then her first move would be to enter Suncrest City.
Would be to make an example of the Turner family!
There was only one sofa in the office where someone could sleep.
After turning off the main light, she switched on the floor lamp by the sofa, pulled over a nearby blanket, and casually covered herself with it, then lay down on the sofa with her eyes closed to rest, completely disregarding the wounded person still in the room.
A faint smell of blood lingered in the air. William still sat still without moving.
By the warm yellow light beside the sofa, William's gaze lingered on her profile.
As if sensing his stare, Sophia turned over with her back to William.
Seeing this, the corners of William's mouth curved upward slightly.
His phone vibrated. After reading the message, the slight smile on William's lips suddenly vanished. He looked at her deeply, and only after her breathing became long and steady did he quietly leave with his phone.
He left the ZN experimental base under cover of night.
A unremarkable black car was already parked at the entrance. Opening the car door, noticed something different inside.
Mark reported truthfully about what Anne had done.
William's figure almost merged with the darkness inside the car.
William's eyes sharpened. "Arrange for people to spread the news about the Turner family's land."
Mark acknowledged, understanding the implication in William's words.
The next morning.
When Sophia woke up again, William's was already gone from the office, and even the medical kit had been put back in its place.
There were no bloody paper balls in the trash can.
Everything related to him, William had cleaned up and taken away completely, no trace behind.
Sophia walked to the cabinet by the door. The document bag she had casually placed there yesterday had obviously been moved.
Her eyes flickered slightly, but she didn't rush to open it, letting it remain on the cabinet as she pushed the door open and left the room.
It was another busy day.
During the day, Logan maintained his image as a brick-moving laborer, working diligently at the ZN experimental base and eating the same meals as the other workers.
He didn't approach Sophia either.
Only occasionally when they met, he would cast pointed glances, as if reminding her to give him a response.
In the evening, the scrapped vehicle had been promptly disposed of. The Johnson family driver had replaced it with a new, more durable car. Seeing her come out, he immediately opened the rear door with a respectfully.
After Sophia got in the car, she turned to look at Logan sitting on the steps in the distance. Logan pointed at his phone.
With the vibration of an incoming text, she saw the latest message Logan had sent.
[Logan: Adding to my sincerity.]
Attached is Anne's location data from the past week.
Seeing Anne's location appear at the repair shop last night, Sophia thought of the hand that had pushed her.
When she looked up outside again, Logan's figure had already disappeared from the steps.
The car slowly drove toward Rain Village.
Just as they turned onto the small road, Sophia had the driver slow down.
Time seemed to freeze at this moment. The same thing was happening again before her eyes, except this time Sophia had made arrangements in advance.
Her eyes were sharply focused on the people ahead, twice as many as yesterday's number.
Why didn't these people learn their lesson after getting beaten up?
As the fierce-looking thugs from the opposite vehicle got out and brazenly came and knocked on Sophia's car window, Sophia picked up the baseball bat from the floor of the back seat.
