Chapter 211 Survival of the Fittest
In the deepest corner of the cell.
Looking past the crowd of naked people on the floor, Sophia spotted two figures huddled in the very back. Though they were clothed, their bloody wounds were shocking to see.
One person's clothes looked especially familiar.
Sophia gave the order.
The black-suited bodyguards following behind sprang into action, quickly taking control of the situation.
With people piled on top of each other on the floor, Sophia quickly stepped through the gaps, making her way to the man in the familiar clothes.
After several gunshots rang out.
The previously unconscious crowd was startled awake by the noise.
"Lucas?" Sophia softened her voice, calling his name.
In the dark corner, the man on the ground showed no reaction, but the person he was shielding behind him trembled involuntarily.
Losing her usual judgment due to worry, Sophia quickly crouched down and lifted the person's face, only to meet a pair of cold, menacing eyes.
It was a completely unfamiliar face.
Against this man's plain, ordinary features, those dark eyes seemed particularly deep. Moreover, Sophia felt something odd about the texture under her palms.
She instinctively touched it a couple more times.
When she realized what she was doing, she quickly apologized to the man.
At that moment, she also saw the person the man had been shielding—it was Lucas, unconscious, his cheeks flushed with an unnatural redness.
Sophia touched Lucas's forehead and checked the pulse at his neck, breathing a sigh of relief. This was a fever caused by his body fighting against the aphrodisiac.
Even before coming here, Sophia had prepared for this.
She quickly pulled out an antidote she'd prepared in advance from her pocket and fed it into Lucas's mouth. The medicine dissolved instantly, avoiding the problem of his being unable to swallow while unconscious.
The jacket Lucas was wearing wasn't his usual style—clearly not his own clothes.
The jacket looked thick, but when Sophia touched it, she discovered something unusual—this fabric felt cool against the skin.
She thanked the strange man beside her.
Then she quickly gave Lucas a basic examination. There were marks on the back of his neck from being hit with a heavy object, and obvious ligature marks on his wrists and palms, apparently from being tied with rope.
The most serious injury was a knife wound to his waist and abdomen.
After administering emergency treatment for Lucas's wounds, Sophia called two bodyguards over to help him up, instructing them, "Be careful."
The naked people around them had already been scared into cowering in the corners. The bearded man had also been subdued by Joe.
Joe arranged for someone to take Lucas out first.
Sophia crouched down again—she had already smelled the strong scent of blood coming from this strange man.
Looking more carefully, she discovered he had obvious knife wounds on his shoulder, abdomen, and thigh. If he kept bleeding like this, he would die from blood loss.
Whether or not these injuries were from protecting Lucas, just based on how he had shielded Lucas in the corner, Sophia would acknowledge this debt.
Sophia said, "I'm a doctor. Let me treat your wounds."
"No need."
The man's voice was as plain as his face, yet it carried an undeniable forcefulness.
Sophia's eyes flickered. She withdrew her hand reaching toward his wounds and took out a porcelain bottle from her pocket. Inside were a few more antidote pills that could quickly break down the drug in his system.
She placed the porcelain bottle on the ground beside the man's leg. "This is my thanks."
As soon as she finished speaking, Sophia stood up and walked toward Joe.
Behind her, the man who had been keeping his head down slowly raised it. Except for that moment when she had unexpectedly cupped his face, this was the first time he had really looked at her.
He watched Sophia's retreating figure, a trace of contemplation passing through the depths of his menacing pupils.
Meanwhile, elsewhere.
Though the bearded man wasn't the top leader of Dark Abyss City, he was one of its leaders.
Sophia glanced at the victims huddled in the corner and had someone open the cell door. Whether they could survive after leaving would depend on their own capability.
But no one dared to leave.
They looked fearfully toward the bearded man.
Among them, a man with delicate features had the strongest drug scent of anyone there.
When he raised his head, Sophia froze for a moment.
"Alvin, what are you doing here?"
"Sophia, I'm ruined, everything about me is ruined! Linda will definitely despise me; she'll never want me again! Never again!"
Alvin, looking crazed, rushed over and snatched the small knife Joe had been playing with. His eyes were wild with despair, his face filled with hatred.
Since the bearded man's hands were held by two bodyguards, he had no way to resist and could only let the knife in Alvin's hand stab into him.
The first stab went straight into the bearded man's heart, blood spurting out; the second severed his manhood and crushed it underfoot; the third stabbed into his back, twisting forcefully.
The bearded man had been pretending to fail, trying to make Joe lower his guard before counterattacking. Who knew Alvin would suddenly rush over and do something so insane.
He didn't even have time to call for help before the intense pain knocked him unconscious.
Alvin also passed out on the spot from being too emotionally worked up.
"Take him to the hospital," Sophia ordered.
Outside the door, Joe's men had heavy machine guns aimed at the dark house entrance. If any enemies came out, they would face direct heavy weapon fire.
In the modified bulletproof black car behind them sat two of ZN Laboratory's best internal medicine and surgery doctors. Hearing the commotion outside, they immediately opened the car door.
Seeing Lucas barely clinging to life, one doctor shook his head. "This guy is the most reckless person I've ever seen when it comes to his own body."
That said, his rescue efforts didn't stop.
The other doctor said, "Either way, he's our junior. Say less. I think we shouldn't use anesthesia—let's see if he dares act alone again in the future."
He stripped off Lucas's filthy clothes, intending to throw them straight in the trash, but received a message from Sophia.
Sophia told them to throw everything on Lucas outside the car—absolutely nothing could be brought back to ZN Laboratory.
Having just finished disinfecting the wounds, one doctor asked for confirmation, "Really, no anesthesia? Lucas is the one who's most afraid of pain."
"He's not even afraid of death, what's he got to fear from pain!"
At that moment, Lucas weakly opened his eyes, reached out to tug on the doctor's white coat, and said to him, "I've told you so many times, if you're going to talk trash, do it secretly. Who told you to say it right in front of the patient? Also, I really am very afraid of pain..."
With that, he passed out again.
Outside the car at that moment, many more of Joe's subordinates were arriving one after another, completely surrounding the dark house.
Survival of the fittest.
In Seraphim, this wasn't a strange thing at all.
In the luxury suite on the fourth underground level, a man lay on a large bed. Last night, he had enjoyed a whole night of debauchery here.
Many beautiful women still lay beside him.
When the door was opened from the outside, the man instantly woke up.
"Who are you! Get out!"
But it was too late.
The moment the door opened, the four beauties who had seemed to be sleeping beside him worked together seamlessly, immediately using whatever tools were at hand to tie the man's limbs and secure them to the iron chains above the bed.
They had wanted to break the man's arms and legs, but were intercepted by two other women.
The three women at the corner of the bed were clearly Dark Abyss City's enforcers.
Two of them were very skilled fighters and immediately engaged with the four beauties, while the weakest one screamed and hid on the sofa.
The air in the room was murky and foul.
Sophia's gaze swept across the bed, then she aimed her gun directly at the man's groin.
"If you don't stop, you can say goodbye to your genitals."
"How dare you!" The man's limbs were restrained, so he could only intimidate with his voice.
He threatened her angrily, "Dare to make a move on my turf, you don't want to keep that head of yours!"
Sophia hadn't let Joe come in, and she rarely showed her face in public, so it was normal that the man before her didn't know her identity.
She felt incredibly grateful that this was Seraphim.
In certain aspects, the enforcement of laws here was very lenient.
Two gunshots rang out.
The one who fell...
was an unexpected person.
