Chapter 207: What Did You Do That Night?
The next morning.
William woke up in an unfamiliar guest room. Recalling what happened yesterday, he immediately sat up, only to notice something was wrong with his body.
Turning his head to see the disheveled shirt and suit pants on the nightstand, William's handsome face instantly turned cold, his eyes burning with fury so intense it seemed ready to tear everything around him apart.
Henry. How dare he.
William went to confront Henry, only to find the place empty, and his calls went unanswered.
He had his bodyguards go upstairs and smash everything in the apartment.
Then, William had someone check the apartment elevator's surveillance footage. Besides focusing on the time period around his arrival at the apartment, they also investigated suspicious people who had been on nearby floors that day.
Sure enough, they found a woman wrapped up from head to toe.
She had entered the elevator an hour before William arrived. Henry's apartment was on the 28th floor, but she pressed the button for the 26th floor. This woman had no skin exposed anywhere on her body, even wearing black lace gloves on her hands.
She lowered her head as soon as she entered the elevator, clearly trying to avoid the security camera inside.
When this woman appeared in the surveillance footage again, she was also getting on the elevator at the 26th floor. Though she wore the same clothes, they were noticeably disheveled, with some unidentified liquid on the hem of her trench coat.
She looked rushed, her steps unsteady, and finally got into a black sedan at the community entrance.
Tony traced this car and discovered it was a reported stolen vehicle.
Later, the bodyguards found the car by a lake on the outskirts, but everything inside had been completely cleaned out, leaving no clues behind.
Henry had completely disappeared since that day.
This time, William not only didn't cancel Henry's bank card but actually deposited five million dollars into it. However, he had people set up restrictions on the card - it could only be used for withdrawals at physical bank counters, not for online transfers.
For Henry, who loved a luxurious lifestyle, once he ran out of money, he would immediately withdraw more. Since he couldn't transfer money online, he would have to go to a physical bank.
As soon as he made a move, William could have people catch him.
Though Henry was both a jerk and irresponsible, William never imagined that his own biological father would use such despicable methods against him.
In the end, he had underestimated the depths of human evil!
William went to the hospital that same day for a series of physical examinations and took medication to block any viruses, preventing any accidents.
Fortunately, there were no needle marks on his body.
No matter what terrible things Henry had done to him that night, and no matter what role that woman played in it, he wouldn't let either of them off.
Meanwhile, Sophia noticed that William had been acting strangely lately.
He came to see Emily regularly every day, but never got close to her, not even hugging her anymore.
Once, when Emily got tired from playing in the community and reached out her arms for him to carry her home.
William had refused.
He even had someone specially bring over a toy car, making Emily climb onto it herself, while he pulled the car to take the child home, avoiding physical contact the entire time.
Sophia wasn't one to meddle in others' business.
As long as William didn't hurt Emily, she could let it go.
Lyra, who had gone abroad to develop her career, was noticeably happier and video-called her from time to time. Just now, Sophia learned some news about the Smith family from Lyra.
"Sophia, you know what?"
"William has had his own father hanging at the Smith family cemetery for three days and nights now."
Sophia looked confused. She really hadn't been paying attention to this.
Lyra continued, "I heard from my dad that Henry set up a trap for William, then hid in a small hotel for three days. When he tried to escape abroad, William caught him right on the way to the airport!"
"I've heard of fathers beating sons, but this is the first time I've heard of a son tying up his father. I have to say, William's got guts."
In the eyes of the older generation, a son seeking vengeance against his father would bring bad karma, especially in wealthy family circles that placed great importance on hierarchy and respect for elders.
Sophia thought about William's recent changes. The way he looked at Emily was tender enough to melt, yet his whole body was filled with restraint.
He seemed more like he was afraid and didn't dare get close to Emily.
So what exactly had Henry, this unfit father, done to his own son to cause such a drastic change in William?
"You don't think William would actually..."
Lyra's words cut off abruptly, but Sophia understood what she meant.
Whether as a son, a husband, or a father, Henry was no good. But if William really impulsively killed someone... the consequences would be unthinkable.
Sophia called William, but again, no one answered.
James and Michael were still downstairs in the playroom with Emily. Since tomorrow and the day after were the weekend, they were both staying at the Johnson Villa these two days.
Thinking of the key information Lyra mentioned, Sophia had the Smith family's driver bring William's car over. She took the keys and drove to the cemetery alone.
Before leaving, she called Emily over and gave her some instructions.
Though Emily was puzzled, she obediently did as Sophia said.
The night wind blew through the cemetery.
The surrounding trees made spine-chilling sounds.
William sat in a mahogany chair, looking at Henry hanging by his hands from a tree, listening to his curses without changing expression.
"That night, you... What did you do?"
Henry's lips were already cracked, his pants soiled from losing control of his bladder and bowels, giving off waves of foul odor, but his eyes were filled with defiant hatred.
"What I did is none of your business! Don't forget, I'm your father! You dare treat me like this - aren't you afraid your grandfather will break your legs!"
Both members of the Smith family, William had grown up in the Smith Manor, carefully taught by Holden. Whether in character or style of handling things, he was more like Holden.
On the contrary, Henry possessed all the bad habits of playboys in this circle. Originally, Holden had wanted to save him, too, but later simply gave up on him and focused on cultivating William.
Fortunately, William didn't disappoint Holden.
But in Henry's eyes, William had stolen everything that should have belonged to him.
"If it weren't for you, Peace Group would be mine, and everything in the Smith family would be mine too! I'm your father, you should respect me!"
The autumn evening wind was getting colder, and with the special environment they were in, Henry's barely suppressed fear grew stronger.
William didn't bother listening to his nonsense. If he could get something out of Henry, fine; if not, it wouldn't stop him from continuing his investigation.
Just then, Mark walked over.
"Mr. Smith, we found it!"
Mark handed him the tablet computer. The timestamp in the corner of the video showed the day after Holden's birthday party.
In the video, Henry came out of a bar with his arm around a heavily made-up woman. The woman kept her head buried in his chest the whole time, her hands quite inappropriate.
She was smart, knowing how to avoid places with cameras, but was accidentally captured in a time-lapse photo taken by a passerby, showing her face clearly.
"This woman is Molly."
How bold were these two? The car shook violently by the roadside for twenty minutes, causing passersby to keep looking back.
Besides this bar video, Mark also found evidence of Molly secretly transferring money to Henry using a foreign virtual account.
Hearing Molly's name, Henry visibly panicked.
And William's face grew even darker, looking at him without a trace of father-son affection. He stood up and walked to Henry.
Henry had been hanging for three days, barely surviving on small amounts of water and food.
"Last chance."
"That night, what did you do?"
Looking at William, whose presence was even more terrifying than Holden's, Henry clenched his teeth and suddenly burst out laughing, his cracked lips immediately oozing blood.
He stared intently at William and said, "The child is just an excuse - you actually really want to remarry Sophia, don't you?"
"Just like when you were little, you got first place in every exam and deliberately brought it out when I came home for dinner. It seemed like a coincidence, but you actually wanted me to praise you and hug you, right? You think I didn't see through that?"
Henry had seen through it, but deliberately pretended not to notice. He found a bit of vengeful satisfaction in William's disappointed eyes.
"Your mother ruined my love life, so she shouldn't expect any happiness, including... you, this unwanted illegitimate child!"
"I did it on purpose. Deliberately slept with her nurse right in front of her in the hospital room when she was pregnant with you. You don't know how pale her face was then, it was so satisfying!"
"I didn't want to be that cruel to her, but who told you, this bastard, to insist on coming into this world? If your mother hadn't used disgusting, underhanded methods, I would never have touched her. She deserved to die!"
He thought he could still see pain and despair in William's eyes, but instead found only endless calm and indifference.
William's pupils darkened as his hand fiercely gripped Henry's neck. Watching Henry's breathing become more and more difficult, the force in his hand continued to increase.
Just then, Sophia drove William's car, racing all the way to the cemetery.
She didn't even need the guard to open the barrier, because William's license plate was registered here - the system scanned it directly and let her through without obstruction.
From a distance, she saw the man choking Henry's neck.
Sophia shouted sternly, "William Smith!"
