Chapter 142 Refusing Holden's Matchmaking
Top floor of Peace Group.
In the quiet CEO's office, the only sound was William flipping through documents.
After receiving the message, Tony hurriedly knocked on the door and said to him, "Mr. Smith, Martin called, saying Mrs. Smith and Emily have come to the Smith Manor for the party!"
William knew the purpose behind Holden arranging this party, so he deliberately stayed at the company to work overtime.
Hearing that Sophia had brought Emily to the Smith Manor, his breathing subtly changed rhythm, his eyes revealing deep contemplation.
As time passed, a glimmer of brightness gradually appeared in his eyes.
William said, "Let's go back to the Smith Manor."
He stood up, grabbed his coat, and strode toward the office door, his voice carrying a hint of anticipation.
After hearing what Martin said, Tony knew William definitely wouldn't be able to sit still, so he had already asked the driver to wait in the basement garage.
Sure enough!
In less than two minutes, William decided to go back.
Tony quickly ran over to press the elevator button, and the two soon left the top floor.
In the elevator, Tony thought about the corner he'd just passed by, where Molly was still working, and couldn't help but sigh, "This Molly is really hardworking."
Although William was a workaholic who worked year-round without breaks, he didn't have strict requirements for employees - as long as they completed their work, they could leave on time. Yet Molly was always the last one to leave the secretarial office.
"Arrange work more reasonably from now on."
Hearing William say this, Tony thought about the work he'd recently assigned to other secretaries and realized he hadn't given Molly too much workload.
Thinking about it, he wondered - Molly was hardworking, sure, but if she had to work overtime every day, wasn't her work capability a bit too poor?
Little did he know, at that moment in the secretarial office, Molly was sitting in the most hidden corner, looking at Hannah's reply on her phone, gradually showing a satisfied smile.
Hannah: [I agree to work with you.]
Before leaving the office.
Her eyes locked onto William's office like a venomous snake, then she walked toward the employee elevator.
Her high heels clicked on the tiled floor, making the darkened office seem particularly gloomy and eerie.
However, when the elevator doors opened, Molly casually glanced at the surveillance camera above the elevator, and her expression had already returned to its usual warmth. She even enthusiastically greeted colleagues working overtime.
-
The children left the lounge hand in hand.
Now only Sophia and Holden remained in the lounge.
Holden first asked about her situation over the past two years, then indirectly probed about Emily's biological father.
Sophia was extremely grateful that the hospital she'd chosen back then was a private hospital under the Anderson family. With Harper's help, she had kept her pregnancy completely hidden.
She looked at Holden calmly and said, "Actually, I don't know who Emily's biological father is either."
"Back then, when I saw the trending topics and saw William being close to Alice with James and Michael, I was heartbroken and wanted to have a child that belonged only to me, so I went to a sperm bank."
There was no panic in Sophia's eyes, and the curve of her lips was just right.
It all sounded reasonable, but Holden wasn't entirely convinced.
Although Emily and Sophia's features were beautifully identical, as if from the same mold, Holden had raised William and knew better than anyone what William looked like as a child.
Emily's face was at least thirty percent similar to William's childhood appearance - how could she be from sperm she bought outside?
But seeing Sophia's attitude showing no fear of him doing a paternity test, Holden's thoughts wavered a bit.
Whether Emily was William's daughter or not, they'd do a paternity test first.
In this short time, the samples from William and Emily had probably already been sent for testing.
These were things Holden had instructed Martin to do secretly - William didn't know about any of this.
Actually, from the day he learned Sophia had a daughter, Holden had wanted to do this.
"Sophia, let's put Emily's matter aside for now. Regardless of whether she's a Smith family child or not, I really like her. When you have time, bring her to the Smith Manor to see me more often."
Sophia neither agreed nor refused, just smiled politely.
She knew Holden's purpose in inviting her over was definitely not just to question whether Emily was William's daughter - there must be other matters.
Thinking it over, the only conflict between her and the Smith family was sending Tanner to prison.
No matter what means Hannah used to marry into the Smith family, she was still William's stepmother and counted as part of the Smith family. Was Holden trying to stand up for Hannah?
Or maybe...
Sophia didn't want to think about the other reason, didn't want to consider it.
She only learned later that when Henry came to find her at school, it was actually at Holden's instruction.
The person who really wanted her to marry William was Holden.
But now, she just wanted to stay far away from William. Except for matters involving James and Michael, it would be best if they stayed out of each other's lives.
But Holden didn't seem to think so.
"William's mother was a very cold but highly capable career woman, always busy with work, and didn't give William much maternal love."
"You should also know what kind of person his father is."
Holden sighed at this point.
In their circle, business marriages could lead to love after marriage, with harmonious lives.
He thought William's parents could be like that too, growing to like each other through understanding. Who knew Henry would be such a bastard!
In the end, he not only ruined Luna but also brought back Hannah, a woman of low character, which made Holden so angry he almost kicked Henry out of the Smith Manor.
No matter what, it was ultimately his mistake.
Sophia remained silent for a long time.
Then she heard Holden sigh deeply again.
"Sophia, William grew up by my side. Although I taught him many things, I'm not good at relationships myself."
"So his understanding of emotions has always been flawed."
"Those five years must have been hard on you."
Sophia smiled as she met Holden's gaze, her tone calm. "Holden, it's all in the past."
She wasn't someone who liked looking back. Whether in relationships or her career, she always preferred moving forward.
Whether it was hard or not was all in the past. Dwelling too much on the past would only drain her and cause her to miss a better future.
Holden saw that her smile was genuine, but still wanted to put in a few good words for William.
"Sophia, I know you divorced back then because you felt wronged. This was indeed William's fault - he failed to judge people correctly, blindly repaying a debt of gratitude, and missed the real treasure. The suffering of these two years is what he deserves."
Holden perhaps didn't even realize that despite trying to be fair, he would still unconsciously favor his grandson in this matter.
"But James and Michael are only six years old. They need a complete family, they need their biological parents by their side - this would be better for their growth."
Holden's voice was deep as he asked her, "Even if just for the two children, are you still unwilling to remarry William?"
Behind the door, William held his breath.
Sophia was a bit angry at Holden's words. Who said children of divorced parents would definitely have a bad life?
Sophia said, "Holden, I'm divorced, not dead."
