Chapter 111: She Is Even Better at Cursing
William came straight from the airport, bringing a sharp chill with him, and walked right up to Sophia—so close she could smell the faint scent from beneath his shirt.
The moment Hannah saw him, she immediately backed down.
But her brother's client really was waiting at the entrance, and the contract had been signed long ago. If Sophia didn't agree, the compensation alone would wipe out all her and her brother's savings.
"Who said you could come here?" William said coldly.
Hannah's heart trembled when she heard this. She wanted to speak but didn't dare.
"I... I just came to see James and Michael. They haven't been back to the Smith Manor in so long."
His gaze was deep and sharp. "They have nothing to do with you."
Hannah gathered her courage to respond, "How can you say that? William, I've been married into the Smith family for over twenty years. Even if you don't accept me as your mother, you can't erase the fact that I'm James and Michael's grandmother."
William's expression changed suddenly, his eyes cold and dark. "Want to be my mom? You'd better go to heaven first and ask if my real mom agrees."
At the mention of his mother, Luna Smith, Hannah's eyes flickered away.
Sophia knew some of the story between the Smith family elders. Henry and Luna had a typical business marriage. After Luna gave birth to William, they each had their own lovers.
Hannah and Henry were classmates. She came from an ordinary family and was basically someone Henry slept with while drunk. He kept her on the side as a mistress who couldn't be acknowledged publicly.
The day after Luna died unexpectedly, Henry brought Hannah home. Her belly was already swollen, clearly close to delivery.
And William was only seven or eight years old at the time.
Luna had just died, and Henry brought Hannah home to sleep in Luna's bedroom—this was a huge shock and hurt to young William.
He'd grown up under Holden's care, every move strictly trained according to Smith family heir standards. Even when angry, he just spoke more coldly.
Sophia glanced at Allan. "Have the security guards escort her out."
"Tell the gate guards—from now on, dogs can come in, but she can't."
Hannah got angry. Was she saying I was worse than a dog?
What right did Sophia have to talk to her like this!
Hannah immediately got worked up. "Sophia, what do you mean? What gives you the right to talk to me like this?"
William glanced at her, and Hannah immediately shrank back in fear.
Before he could act, Sophia pulled William, who was standing in front of her, behind her.
"You've been a rich wife for so long, you think everyone has to be polite to you?"
William paused slightly, following her pull to stand behind her, watching her protect him. A warm feeling slowly rose in his heart.
Sophia wasn't about to coddle Hannah and continued sarcastically, "What's wrong with divorce? At least I wasn't a mistress before I married William."
"You!" Hannah was furious and tried to hit her, but the security guards had already grabbed her hands.
"Can't even speak properly." She sneered coldly. "Hannah, who gave you the nerve to act so arrogant in my house?"
"You want to be my children's grandmother? Impossible."
She didn't even care about William's opinion—why would she fear someone with no blood relation?
Her mistake was being too polite to Hannah in the past, which gave her the courage to push her luck.
Sophia said to the guards, "Throw her out!"
Hannah was literally carried out and thrown out of the Johnson Villa, landing in an embarrassing heap.
The iron gate of the yard closed, cutting off the sound of her angry cursing.
William followed her back to the living room on the other side.
Just as he was about to speak, she glared at him.
He couldn't even handle Hannah—how useless.
William fell silent.
Sophia went upstairs to the study and saw Hannah still cursing at the gate from the window.
Hannah didn't leave right away, so what she said about her client waiting at the community entrance must have been true.
Sophia drew the study curtains and continued selecting kindergartens for James and Michael.
Downstairs, before William could enter the house, he saw Emily. She had just come out of the children's bathroom next to the playroom, and her eyes lit up when she saw him.
Emily called out, "William!"
When Sophia finished selecting the new kindergarten address and came downstairs, laughter was coming from the playroom.
She saw William blindfolded, with three children covering their mouths to stifle giggles.
William's suit jacket was on the sofa, his white shirt sleeves rolled up to his elbows. Considering the children's small height, he bent slightly while playing blindfolded tag.
Seeing her, Emily immediately ran over from behind the door and threw herself into her arms, looking up with bright eyes.
Emily shook her head and leaned forward with a smile, planting a kiss on her cheek.
Seeing Sophia about to come downstairs, Michael sneaked a glance at William, who was only five or six steps away from her, and his eyes sparkled with mischief.
He cried out first and fell at Sophia's feet.
Worried about him, Sophia immediately crouched down, holding Emily with one hand and reaching for Michael with the other.
Hearing the commotion, William was about to pull off his blindfold to check on Michael when Michael said loudly, "Dad, you can't take off the blindfold—that's cheating."
Reluctantly, he stopped removing the blindfold.
He listened intently, then strode toward the sound.
Michael tugged at Sophia's sleeve. "Mom, don't make a sound. I want to beat Dad."
Emily, in her arms, also nodded, reaching up to cover her mouth and whispering, "Mom, be quiet."
Hearing this, Sophia paused in her movement to stand up.
William had already walked up to them. When he tripped over a cushion as the children hoped, dropping to one knee, his hand reached out and grabbed... Emily in Sophia's arms.
Emily's eyes widened in surprise, and she couldn't help letting out a cry.
Wasn't he supposed to catch Michael? Why did he catch her instead?
