Chapter 88 Chapter 82
Days passed slowly, and the house stayed calm. Savannah was still weak, but each morning she woke up to the sound of her baby crying softly beside her. That little cry had become her favorite sound in the world.
The maids were always around, helping her with everything. They brought food, washed clothes, and cleaned the room. But Savannah never let them do everything. She still tried to feed her baby herself, change his clothes, and hold him every time he cried.
Sometimes, she would just sit by the window, rocking baby Liam in her arms, watching the birds outside. The wind would blow through the curtains, and she would smile quietly.
It was a life she never imagined she would have — peace, care, and love.
Adrian often came home early from work now. He would walk into the nursery with a wide smile, his face lighting up the moment he saw Savannah and the baby.
“How are my two favorite people doing?” he would ask every time.
Savannah would laugh softly and say, “We’re fine. He just ate.”
Adrian would go closer, take the baby carefully from her arms, and whisper, “Hey, little man, you’ve grown again.”
He loved spending time with them. Sometimes, he would sit beside Savannah while she fed Liam and just watch quietly. He couldn’t explain it, but watching them together gave him peace.
At night, Savannah and Adrian would sometimes talk for hours. She told him stories about her childhood — how she used to dream of a happy family, how she always believed that love could heal everything, even when life proved her wrong.
Adrian listened to every word, never interrupting. He could see pain behind her calm voice, but he also saw strength. Savannah had been through a lot, yet she still smiled.
One night, after she had put Liam to sleep, Adrian brought her a cup of warm milk. “You need this,” he said softly. “You’re still recovering.”
She took it with a small smile. “You act like my doctor.”
He chuckled quietly. “Maybe I am. A doctor with a heart problem.”
Savannah looked at him in confusion. “Heart problem?”
He looked at her deeply and said, “Yeah. My heart only beats right when you’re around.”
Savannah froze for a moment, her heart thudding fast. She tried to laugh, but it came out soft and shy. “Adrian, stop saying things like that.”
He smiled and said, “I can’t help it. It’s the truth.”
She didn’t reply, just looked away, pretending to focus on the cup. Inside, her heart was warm. She didn’t want to admit it, but she was already falling deeper for him every day.
The days turned into weeks. Liam grew stronger. He started smiling whenever Adrian carried him. The maids often joked, “The baby loves his daddy so much!”
Savannah would blush at their words, shaking her head. “He’s not his father,” she would say quickly, but her voice always came out soft, unsure.
One evening, Savannah went to the garden. The air was cool, and the sun was setting slowly. She sat on the wooden bench with Liam in her arms. The flowers smelled sweet, and the sound of the fountain nearby was peaceful.
Adrian came out a few minutes later, holding two cups of juice. “You should drink something,” he said.
She smiled. “Thank you.”
He sat beside her, quiet for a while. The sky was painted with orange and gold. “You know,” he said softly, “this house used to feel empty. Now it feels like home again.”
Savannah looked at him. “Because of the baby?”
He smiled gently. “Because of both of you.”
She looked down, blushing slightly. “You’ve done too much for me, Adrian. I don’t even know how to repay you.”
“You already did,” he said. “Every time you smile, it feels like I’ve done something right.”
Her lips curved softly. “You really know how to make a woman speechless.”
He laughed lightly. “Good. That means I’m learning.”
The two sat quietly again. Liam made a small sound, stretching his tiny hands, and Savannah kissed his forehead.
“You’ll grow up strong,” she whispered to the baby. “You’ll never feel alone, I promise.”
Adrian watched her carefully. “He’s lucky to have you, Savannah.”
She looked at him. “No, I’m lucky to have him. He gave me a reason to live again.”
Adrian wanted to tell her how much she had also changed his life, but he didn’t. Instead, he just reached out and touched her hand softly. She didn’t pull away this time.
For a moment, their hands stayed together, warm and quiet. Neither said a word, but they both felt something deep — something real.
Later that night, when Savannah went to bed, she couldn’t sleep. She lay awake, thinking of everything that had happened.
Adrian’s words replayed in her mind — “My heart only beats right when you’re around.”
She smiled in the dark, then quickly wiped the smile away. “Stop it, Savannah,” she whispered to herself. “You’re a mother now. You can’t think like that.”
But her heart didn’t listen. It beat faster each time she thought about him.
The next morning, she woke up early. The baby was still sleeping. She stood by the window and looked outside. Adrian was in the garden, talking to one of the guards. He looked so calm, so sure of himself.
Savannah’s heart melted a little more. She didn’t know what the future would bring, but for the first time in years, she felt safe.
When Adrian came back inside, he saw her standing by the window and smiled. “Good morning, sunshine.”
Savannah smiled shyly. “Good morning.”
He went to her side and said softly, “I’ll make breakfast today.”
She laughed lightly. “You? I don’t believe that.”
“Watch me,” he said and walked toward the kitchen.
A few minutes later, the smell of toast and eggs filled the air. Savannah walked in, surprised to see him actually cooking.
“You’re serious,” she said, laughing.
“I told you,” he said proudly. “I can do anything for you.”
She shook her head. “You’re unbelievable.”
He looked at her and smiled. “Only because you make me that way.”
They both laughed softly, and for a brief moment, the world outside didn’t matter. It was just them — a man, a woman, and a baby who brought light back into their lives.
The house that once echoed with silence was now full of laughter, small cries, and love.
And deep in her heart, Savannah knew one thing — she had finally found peace.
