Chapter 54 Chapter 54
Two weeks had passed since the shopping trip, but Savannah still couldn’t stop thinking about it. Every time she walked into the baby room, her eyes filled with tears again. The tiny clothes, the soft toys, the smell of new fabric — everything reminded her how much Adrian cared.
She sat on the couch that morning, rubbing her round belly gently. The baby kicked lightly, and she smiled. “You like it here, don’t you?” she whispered. “Maybe we’re both lucky.”
A soft knock came on the door, and Adrian walked in holding two cups of juice. “You didn’t eat breakfast well,” he said. “So I brought you this. Orange and mango — your favorite.”
Savannah smiled. “You’ve been watching me too much.”
He chuckled. “Someone has to.” He handed her the drink and sat beside her. “How do you feel today?”
“Better,” she said. “Just a little tired. The baby has been kicking since morning.”
Adrian smiled gently. “That’s a good sign. Means the little one is strong.”
Savannah nodded and sipped her drink. Silence filled the room for a while. The air between them felt warm and calm. Adrian’s presence always brought peace, even when she didn’t say a word.
She looked at him quietly. His face was kind, his eyes full of something she couldn’t explain. She quickly looked away before he noticed.
Adrian leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “Savannah,” he said softly. “You’ve been quiet lately. Is something wrong?”
She shook her head quickly. “No, nothing. I’m fine.”
He studied her face for a moment. “You sure?”
She forced a smile. “Yes, I promise.”
But deep down, Savannah wasn’t fine. Her heart was beating fast. She didn’t know why she felt strange around him these days. Every time he smiled, her chest felt tight. Every time he touched her hand by mistake, she felt something she couldn’t explain.
That night after dinner, she couldn’t sleep. She lay awake, staring at the ceiling. Adrian had done everything for her — given her a home, safety, and care. But now she was scared of something else… of her own heart.
“Why am I feeling this way?” she whispered to herself.
The next morning, she went downstairs and saw Adrian talking to one of the maids. He was giving instructions about cleaning the backyard. His tone was firm but gentle. The staff respected him deeply.
When he turned and saw her, he smiled right away. “Morning, sleepyhead.”
She laughed softly. “You woke up early again.”
“Old habit,” he said. “Come, have breakfast.”
They sat together, eating pancakes and fruit. Savannah found herself laughing more than usual. Adrian kept teasing her about how she always picked the biggest piece of pancake.
After breakfast, he took her for a short walk around the mansion garden. The flowers were blooming, and the air smelled fresh. Savannah touched a rose petal gently.
“This place is so beautiful,” she said. “Sometimes I forget all my worries when I’m here.”
Adrian looked at her quietly. “That’s the plan,” he said softly. “You deserve peace.”
Savannah smiled, but her eyes turned watery again. “You say things that touch my heart too much,” she said, laughing to hide her tears.
Adrian smiled too, but his eyes looked serious. “Then maybe your heart needs it.”
She turned away shyly, pretending to watch the flowers again. But inside, her heart was beating faster.
Later in the day, Adrian got a call and went to his study. Savannah sat alone in the living room, thinking about everything.
He was always around when she needed something. He never raised his voice, never made her feel small. He cared about her baby as if it was his own.
She touched her stomach again and whispered, “What if I’m falling for him?”
Her voice broke a little. She knew it was wrong to think that way. He was helping her out of kindness. But she couldn’t help what her heart was saying.
When Adrian came back from the study, she was still lost in thought. He noticed right away.
“You’re thinking again,” he said softly, sitting beside her.
She smiled weakly. “I think too much these days.”
He leaned closer. “About what?”
She laughed nervously. “About life. About the baby. About everything.”
Adrian smiled but didn’t push her. He just placed his hand gently over hers and said, “Whatever happens, you’re not alone anymore.”
That sentence stayed in Savannah’s heart long after he left the room. She looked down at her hand, where his had rested. It still felt warm.
That night, she wrote something in her small notebook:
He doesn’t know what he means to me. Maybe I don’t know either. But all I know is that his kindness has touched my soul.
She closed the book, wiped a tear, and smiled. For the first time, love didn’t feel like pain — it felt like peace.
