Chapter 209 Chapter 209
The house was still quiet that morning, but everyone could feel the tension in the air. Roland’s death had left a big hole in the hearts of everyone who knew him — especially Adrian.
Savannah sat on the couch, holding Liam close while Adrian spoke with the police. She couldn’t stop thinking about how Roland died helping them. “He didn’t deserve that,” she whispered to herself.
Detective Henry and two other officers sat across from Adrian. “Sir, we’ve been reviewing every lead we have,” Henry began calmly. “It’s clear this wasn’t just a random attack. Someone planned it.”
Adrian frowned. “Planned? You mean Roland was targeted?”
“Not him directly,” Henry replied. “We think whoever did this wanted to get to someone close to you.”
Savannah’s hand trembled slightly, and she held Liam tighter. Adrian noticed and placed his hand over hers. “We just want to know who’s behind this,” he said in a low tone.
Henry nodded. “We’re working on it. We already have a few suspects, but one name keeps showing up — Clara.”
Savannah’s eyes widened. “Clara?” she repeated softly.
Henry nodded again. “Yes. She has a connection with someone we suspect might have been following you before the attack. We don’t have enough evidence to arrest her yet, but she’s under surveillance.”
Adrian’s voice grew firm. “Do whatever it takes. I want justice for Roland, and I want my family safe.”
After the police left, Savannah stood by the window, watching the cars outside. “Adrian,” she said quietly, “what if they come for us again?”
Adrian turned to her, walked over, and held her close. “They won’t, Savannah. I promise. I’ll make sure of it.”
But deep inside, he was scared too.
Across town, Detective Henry and his team continued their work. They watched Clara’s every move. She looked calm on the outside — going shopping, talking to neighbors, even smiling — but something about her didn’t sit right.
One of the younger officers spoke up. “Sir, she’s pretending too much. No one acts that normal after a murder happens nearby.”
Henry agreed. “She’s trying to look innocent. Keep eyes on her house and track all her calls. We’ll catch her when she slips.”
Later that evening, Clara sat in her room, her phone in her hand. Her face was hard and cold. “You fools messed up,” she muttered after ending a call. “Now the police are watching. You should’ve been careful.”
She looked at a photo of Savannah on her phone and sneered. “You think you’re safe, Savannah? Just wait.”
Meanwhile, back at home, Savannah tucked Liam into bed. The little boy looked up at her with sleepy eyes. “Mommy, are you sad?” he asked softly.
Savannah smiled faintly and brushed his hair. “No, baby. Mommy’s just thinking.”
He nodded slowly. “I miss Uncle Roland.”
Savannah’s eyes filled with tears. “Me too,” she whispered.
When Liam finally slept, Adrian came into the room and wrapped his arm around her waist. “We’ll be okay,” he said gently.
Savannah leaned on his shoulder, staring at the night sky through the window. But even as she tried to believe Adrian’s words, her heart told her something darker — that this was only the beginning.
Far away, Detective Henry stared at a photo of Clara on his desk and said to himself,
“She’s hiding something big… and when we find it, everything will change.”
