Chapter 207 Chapter 207
The news spread faster than anyone expected. By evening, the police had already visited Roland’s house. Grace was sitting on the couch, her body weak and pale from the sickness she had been battling for weeks. When she saw two officers at her door, her heart started beating fast.
“Good evening, ma’am,” one of them said softly. “Are you Mrs. Grace Roland?”
“Yes,” she replied in a shaky voice. “Is everything alright? Did something happen to my husband?”
The officers exchanged a quick look before one of them sighed. “I’m sorry, ma’am. There was an incident this morning. Your husband… he didn’t make it.”
Grace froze. For a few seconds, she couldn’t even breathe. “W–what did you just say?” she whispered, her hands trembling.
“I’m really sorry,” the officer continued, lowering his head. “We found his body near the woods. It seems like he was attacked. We’re still investigating.”
Grace screamed. It was a painful cry that came from the deepest part of her soul. She held her chest and fell on her knees. “No! No, not my Roland!” she cried. “He promised me he’d come back! He promised!”
Her neighbors came rushing in after hearing her cries. One woman held her shoulders, trying to calm her, but Grace kept crying, hitting her chest. “He didn’t deserve this! My husband was a good man. He was forced into this! Oh God, why him?”
One of the officers knelt beside her. “We’re doing everything we can, ma’am. We’ll find who did this.”
Grace wiped her tears roughly, her eyes red and swollen. “Please… please find who did this,” she whispered weakly. “He was a good man. He didn’t deserve to die like that.”
After the police left, Grace sat alone on the floor, her body shaking. She kept whispering to herself, “It’s that woman… it’s that evil woman that made him go back there. Clara… she will pay for this.”
A few hours later, Aunty Lisa and Savannah came to see her after hearing the sad news from Rose. When they entered her small house, Grace was still sitting in the same spot, staring at the wall.
“Grace,” Savannah said softly, kneeling beside her. “Oh my God, I’m so sorry.”
Grace turned to her with tired eyes. “Savannah, he’s gone,” she said in a broken voice. “My Roland is gone… and it’s all because of that woman.”
Aunty Lisa sat beside her and held her hand tightly. “We know, my dear. We know. God will fight for you. You don’t have to suffer alone.”
Savannah hugged her tightly, tears falling from her eyes. “He was a kind man. He didn’t deserve this.”
Grace shook her head slowly. “He tried to return her money. He tried to do the right thing, but they didn’t let him. Now he’s gone, and I’m all alone.”
Aunty Lisa’s voice trembled. “You’re not alone, Grace. We’ll help you. Adrian and I will make sure the police find out the truth.”
Grace looked down at her trembling hands. “I want justice,” she whispered. “Not revenge… just justice. For Roland.”
Savannah nodded firmly. “You’ll get it. I promise.”
As they left her house that night, Savannah couldn’t stop thinking about the pain in Grace’s eyes. The silence in the car was heavy.
“Adrian has to know,” Aunty Lisa finally said. “This isn’t just a random attack. That woman Clara has something to do with it.”
Savannah sighed deeply. “I know,” she said softly. “But we need to be careful. Whoever did this might be watching us too.”
When she got home, she checked on Liam and watched him sleep peacefully. Her heart ached for Grace, for Roland, and for the fear that still lingered around them.
She touched Liam’s hair and whispered, “No one will hurt you, my love. Not while I’m alive.”
But deep inside, she couldn’t shake off the feeling that something darker was coming their way.
And this time, it wouldn’t be easy to escape.
