Chapter 205 Chapter 205
The next morning came slowly.
The sun was out, but Roland didn’t feel its warmth. He sat on the edge of his bed, his eyes fixed on the floor. He had barely slept a wink all night. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw Savannah’s face — smiling so softly, so innocent.
Grace was already up, boiling water in the small kitchen. When she came back to the room, she looked at her husband and sighed. “You didn’t sleep.”
Roland nodded slowly. “I couldn’t.”
She handed him a cup of hot tea and sat beside him. “Drink. You’ll need strength.”
He took the cup but didn’t drink. “Grace,” he whispered, “what if Adrian doesn’t believe me? What if he thinks I’m lying?”
Grace touched his arm gently. “That’s not your problem, Roland. Your duty is to tell the truth. Let God handle the rest.”
Roland nodded weakly. After a while, he stood up, dressed in his old brown jacket, and wore his shoes slowly like a man walking to his final judgment.
Grace followed him to the door, holding his hand tightly. “Promise me you’ll go straight to Adrian’s house. Don’t stop anywhere.”
“I promise,” he said softly.
“And Roland…” she added, her voice breaking a little. “Don’t be afraid. I’ll be praying for you.”
Roland smiled faintly and kissed her forehead. “Thank you, Grace.”
Then he walked out of the house. The air was cold, the sky cloudy. As he walked down the street, he felt the wind blowing gently on his face. His heart was beating fast.
He kept whispering under his breath, “God, please give me courage… just courage.”
By the time he got to Adrian’s mansion, it was already mid-morning. The house was quiet and beautiful as always. There were guards at the gate, but Roland was known there. He had worked with Adrian before.
“Good morning, sir,” one of the guards greeted. “You’re early today.”
Roland nodded. “Good morning. Is Mr. Adrian home?”
“Yes, sir. But he’s in his office.”
“Please tell him I need to see him. It’s urgent.”
The guard looked at him with concern. “Are you okay, sir? You look… tired.”
Roland forced a weak smile. “I’m fine. Just tell him, please.”
The guard went in, and after a few minutes, he returned. “He said you can come in.”
Roland’s feet felt heavy as he walked through the big gate into the mansion. Every corner of that place reminded him of Savannah — her laughter echoing through the halls, her kind smile whenever she greeted him.
He reached Adrian’s office and knocked softly.
“Come in,” Adrian’s deep voice said from inside.
Roland pushed the door open. Adrian was sitting behind his desk, dressed neatly in a white shirt, looking serious but calm.
When he saw Roland, he stood up politely. “Mr. Roland. It’s been a while. How are you?”
Roland swallowed hard. “I’m fine, sir. Thank you.”
“Please, sit.”
Roland sat down slowly. He could feel sweat forming on his forehead.
Adrian looked at him closely. “You seem nervous. Is everything alright?”
Roland looked down, his hands trembling slightly. “Sir, I came here to tell you something. Something very important.”
Adrian leaned forward. “Go ahead.”
Roland took a deep breath. “It’s about your wife… Savannah.”
Adrian’s eyes narrowed instantly. “What about her?”
Roland looked up slowly. “Someone wants to hurt her. Someone dangerous.”
Adrian froze. “What do you mean? Who?”
Roland hesitated, his heart racing. He opened his mouth to speak —
And just then, his phone rang.
He jumped a little in fear when he saw the name flashing on the screen. Clara.
Adrian noticed the panic in his eyes. “Who is that?”
Roland’s hands shook as he quickly silenced the phone. “It’s… it’s nothing, sir.”
Adrian frowned. “You’re hiding something. Who’s trying to hurt Savannah?”
Roland stood up suddenly, pacing around. “Sir, please… I need to explain everything, but you have to promise to protect me first. She’s watching me. She knows where I go.”
Adrian’s voice turned serious. “Who’s watching you, Roland?”
Roland rubbed his face and finally whispered, “Clara. Adrian, it’s Clara. She’s planning something bad for Savannah.”
Adrian’s heart skipped a beat. “Clara? Are you sure?”
Roland nodded quickly. “Yes, sir. I swear it. She told me to make Savannah disappear. I refused at first, but she’s blackmailing me. She has something on me, and I didn’t know what to do.”
Adrian’s jaw tightened, anger flashing in his eyes. “That woman has gone too far.”
Roland continued, “She said Savannah is pregnant again. She doesn’t want that baby to live. She said it will ruin her plans.”
Adrian froze in shock. “Pregnant?” he whispered softly.
Roland nodded. “Yes, sir. I overheard her talking to someone on the phone. She’s jealous, angry… and she’s not alone. She has people working for her.”
Adrian leaned back in his chair, his eyes dark and full of rage. “I knew she was trouble, but I never thought she’d go this far.”
Roland clasped his hands together. “Please, sir, don’t tell her I came here. If she finds out, she’ll destroy me. She’ll destroy my family.”
Adrian nodded slowly. “Don’t worry. I’ll protect you. But I need you to tell me everything you know — every single detail.”
Roland was about to speak again when his phone buzzed on the table. Another message.
Adrian saw his face turn pale. “Who is it?”
Roland hesitated, then handed the phone over. Adrian took it and read the message aloud.
“You talk, you die. Remember your daughter.”
Adrian’s eyes turned dark. “So, she’s threatening your family too.”
Roland’s voice shook. “Yes, sir. She knows everything about me. Where I live, where my daughter works… everything.”
Adrian clenched his fists. “This has gone on for too long. I’ll handle her myself.”
Roland looked scared. “Sir, please be careful. She’s not just angry — she’s dangerous.”
Adrian nodded slowly. “Thank you, Roland. You did the right thing by coming here.”
Roland stood up, tears filling his eyes. “I couldn’t live with myself if anything happened to that woman. Savannah has a pure heart. She once gave me food when I was sick… she doesn’t even know me well. I can’t be part of hurting her.”
Adrian’s eyes softened a bit. “You’re a good man, Roland. Go home. I’ll take care of this.”
Roland nodded, wiping his tears. “Thank you, sir. Please protect your wife. That woman won’t stop until she destroys her.”
Adrian stood up and walked around the table, patting his shoulder gently. “I’ll protect her with my life.”
Roland nodded again and turned to leave. But before he opened the door, he stopped.
He looked back at Adrian, his voice trembling. “Sir, one more thing.”
Adrian looked at him. “Yes?”
Roland hesitated. “I think she has someone watching your house. Someone inside.”
Adrian’s face hardened. “Inside?”
Roland nodded. “Yes, sir. Be careful who you trust.”
Then he left quietly, his steps slow but his heart a little lighter.
When he got outside the mansion, he took a deep breath and looked at the sky. “Thank you, God. I did it,” he whispered.
But as he walked toward the gate, he didn’t notice a black car parked a little down the road. Inside the car, a woman with dark sunglasses lowered her window slightly.
It was Clara.
She watched him walk away with a cold smile on her lips. Then she picked up her phone and made a short call.
“Follow him,” she said calmly. “Make sure he never speaks again.”
The line went dead.
And the car behind Roland slowly started its engine.
