Chapter 150 Chapter 150
The house was calm, the kind of quiet that only came after a long day. Nathaniel had just finished showering when he walked into the bedroom and found Cassandra standing by the mirror, brushing her long hair slowly. Her red gown from dinner was gone, replaced by a soft silk night robe that flowed down her skin like water.
He paused, watching her reflection. For a second, it reminded him of old times — before everything became complicated, before the lies and the distance.
Cassandra turned and caught him staring. She smiled softly. “What?”
Nathaniel smiled back. “You’re beautiful, Cass. I almost forgot how much.”
She laughed lightly, setting the brush down. “You forgot? That’s rude.”
He walked closer, his voice low. “Then maybe I should remind myself.”
She looked up at him, her eyes calm but hiding something deeper. He reached out, gently touching her face. The warmth of his hand against her skin made her heart beat faster, though she didn’t know if it was love or guilt.
Nathaniel leaned closer. “You’ve been distant,” he whispered. “I’ve missed this… I’ve missed us.”
Cassandra didn’t say a word. She only nodded slowly, pretending to be soft again. Deep down, her mind was still full of plans — but tonight, she wanted to keep up her act. She wanted him to trust her completely before she struck.
He kissed her gently at first, and she responded slowly, wrapping her arms around his neck. His scent, his warmth, everything about him drew her in, even if part of her heart was gone long ago.
The kiss deepened, and soon, words faded away. Nathaniel lifted her carefully, laying her on the bed as the night wrapped around them. The air grew heavy with soft breaths and quiet sighs.
For that moment, they weren’t enemies. They weren’t plotting or pretending. They were just two people who had shared too much history to completely let go.
Cassandra closed her eyes and let him hold her, her fingers tracing the lines of his back. For the first time in a long while, she almost felt human again — almost forgot the bitterness and jealousy that had consumed her.
Afterward, they lay in silence. Nathaniel pulled her close, whispering, “Maybe this is what we needed — a fresh start.”
She smiled faintly, hiding the truth behind her eyes. “Maybe,” she whispered.
He kissed her forehead and soon fell asleep, breathing softly beside her. Cassandra lay still, staring at the ceiling. The room smelled of warmth and perfume, but her heart felt cold.
She turned her head slightly to look at Nathaniel’s face. He looked peaceful, almost innocent.
“Poor man,” she murmured quietly. “You have no idea what’s coming.”
Then she reached out, brushed his hair gently, and forced a smile — the same sweet, dangerous smile she always wore when she had something dark in mind.
The night went on silently. Outside, the wind blew softly against the curtains. Inside, a woman lay next to the man she had once loved… and now planned to destroy.
