Chapter 61 Chapter 61
Selena
“How are you doing, Martin? How is grandfather?” I asked as I turned off the ignition of my car, then stepped out with my bag, my AirPods in my ears.
“Grandfather is fine, he said the new aunty was assigned by the police to help him. .”
I nodded like he could see me. “That’s good. You should also look after him, okay?”
“Okay, when are you coming too? Grandfather said he is sorry for being mean to you.”
I couldn't help the smile that spread to my face. “Tell grandfather that instead of feeling bad, he should invite me for a meal later.” The elevator beeped open and I stepped out.
The sound of him laughing echoed from the line. “I’ll tell grandfather, you have to come then.” His little voice turned stern.
“I will.” I laughed, took my card to open my door, and stepped in.
My brows furrowed at the darkness.
“What’s happening?”
There was no light. The apartment has never been dark even when Josh was home, and Josh hasn't been home for days now.
“Selena, is anything wrong? You are quiet.” Martin's voice broke the new silence.
“No, no, Martin. How about I call you later, I need to rest now.” I took another step in.
Something didn't feel right.
“Oh,” I could hear the disappointment in his tone. “Alright, I’ll speak to you later. Bye, Selena.”
“Bye Martin.” The call ended, and I turned on my phone’s flashlight.
“Josh, are you home?” I called, taking further steps inside the living room. I knew he wasn't.
The switch was in the kitchen, so I moved there first.
Or could it be a power outage? But the corridor had lights.
Was it possible for my room only to be affected? I reached the sitting room, where the switch was, and I turned it on.
Nothing.
“What was going on?”
Something wasn't right.
A sudden chill ran down my spine.
I looked around. Something was different like someone was watching me.
‘Maybe someone was?’
It couldn't be..
Something fell to the floor, breaking. I flinched, moving backward.
The sound was from my room. What could have fallen?
My legs trembled as I turned off my flashlight, my fingers shook searching for Josh’s number.
I could hear my heart palpitating, threatening to burst out of my chest.
But the next thing I heard shook my bones.
Sounds of steps approaching.
“Someone was here,” I muttered.
I didn't stop to think about the next step before I turned, rushing to the door.
“This bitch,”
Heavy footsteps pursued, the floor echoing as I ran with all my might.
How many were they? The footsteps didn't sound like just one person.
“God please,” My eyes burned when I reached for the door, stretching to open it. But then sharp and heavy pain resonated in my head, and before I knew it, my fingertips turned weak, my eyes burned into darkness.
“How long is she going to keep sleeping, just hit her.”
“Boss is almost here, let's wait for a minute.”
Muffled voices filled my ears as I tried to open my eyes, but they only hurt, I groaned.
My head hurts, everything hurts.
I don't know where I was, but it was cold. Too cold.
I wrapped my hands around myself, biting hard on my lower lip to stifle the pain radiating from my head.
Someone has hit me, but who? Why? Why were there people in my apartment? How did they get there?
“She is waking,” Footsteps approached and I forced my heavy eyelids open.
It did, but it was blurry, yet I could see the legs.
Big shoes.
“Took you long to wake up, princess?”
Slowly, my eyes cleared, and I pushed myself to sit, groaning at each attempt.
My eyes zeroed in on the two men in front of me, and then the room, it was empty.
They were huge, twice as big as me. One was bald with a huge scar across his face while the other had a disorienting headline.
If I didn't have a killer pain in my head, I would probably laugh. But I couldn't ignore the danger that lurked around me being at their Mercy.
“Who are you? Why are you doing this?”
Thankfully my hands weren't tied. Maybe there could be an opportunity for me to leave here.
Just then, the door burst open, and another huge man entered. So they were three….
My thought is cut short when another smaller build follows behind the man.
“The boss is here,” The bald one spoke, grinning.
And then, the man moved to the side and my heart stopped.
Valeria.
What was she doing here? She wore a hoodie, her face open, but she didn't look at me.
“Boss, this’s her. Now that the work is done, you should send us the balance.”
“I will, but I need something to be done. Are you interested in her?”
My heart thunders.
What does she mean by that? Why was she here? The last time I saw her was after the fight at the office. .
“What are you doing?” I voiced out.
The men turned to me, their eyes sized my legs before turning away.
“ If you are ready to give her to us, boss, we’ll do well to satisfy her."
They laughed, their voice sending chills down my body.
Valeria turned to me, and I moved to stand only to fall back on the cold floor, my legs weak.
“What is going on? Why are you doing this?” I glanced between her and the men who now stood by her sides.
“What does it look like?” She dropped the hoodie. “You have been asking me about the bruise on my face, and I started to wonder if you were mocking me.” She walked towards me, her face still the same.
“I wasn't. ” I defended myself, confused by her words.
“You are the reason why I am like this, Selena.” She placed her hand on my face and I shivered, my skin pricking.
“If only you didn't go whining to him, then he wouldn’t have done this, then I would still have a chance with him. Then I won’t be humiliated today and fired. Why did you interfere!” She suddenly yelled, and the next thing, my hair was grabbed tight.
“Ah,” I cried out, not expecting the sudden assault.
What does she mean by that? Was he Theodore? What did he do to her?
“ Let go.” My head already hurts enough from being hit. “Lets talk about this please.” I pleaded.
“Talk about it?” She laughed. “What is there to talk about? I have done everything to get into the company, but because of you, I was fired. Do you think I want to talk to you?”
The men moved closer.
“If anything, I want to see you end tonight. Since I can't have the boss, you shouldn't either. But I’m not cruel to kill you immediately, so have a fun night with them. Don't worry I’ll be outside listening to you.” She whispered.
“Let's see if Boss would want you again after this.”
