Chapter 15 Chapter 15
Selena
The dream, the thoughts have caused much more damage than I thought, because now, I was running on the stairs of the company, because the elevator had people in.
I was late.
‘Goodness Selena. First day of work, and you are already late, over thoughts of Theodore Mateo fucking you with a gun. How despicable can you be?’
I took the next step, my legs tired, as I breathed heavily.
There has always been a voice in my head. It wasn't just the regular voices you listened to.
It was my nemesis. Perhaps someone I killed in my past life had decided to stay in there, to throw the disgusting part of me back to me every time.
I don't know when it started to follow me. But it has always whispered. Always there at every wrong decision I make.
‘You are pitiful. A disgrace. Tsk Selena, you failed to serve your boss again, I guess you’ll never be the girl you want to be. Too bad.”
I closed my eyes, opening them to take the next step. “I’m not despicable. It's only normal to have such thoughts, so..so,”
‘Oh, it’s normal? He is Theodore Mateo. Why would he want something like you covered in lies? Stop dreaming and do your work, that way you can leave easily. You always have to embarrass yourself.”
I sighed.
There was no truth to her words. I was beautiful. I’ve always been told that, though I never saw it, but I knew this, and especially, knew when to use the card, though it has always ended against me.
But for Theodore Mateo..
“I must be crazy. Why am I even thinking of wooing him? He is dangerous, I should be running!” I voiced out, hitting my head.
I took a deep breath, before opening the floor door, heading to my office. .
I could sneak inside my office, and then act like I had a stomachache, and couldn't come out of it, prompting…
“You really have your way around work etiquette, Ms Selena, follow me.”
Anastasia.
I closed my eyes. I was caught.
Why did she have to come here?
I turned, following after her. Her brown heels scraped the ground as she walked high.
She opened a door, and I wished I could disappear at the sight of everyone inside.
“Everyone. This is the company's new assistant, call her Ms Selena.” She spoke loudly.
Was this supposed to be? In all the companies I have worked at, though they weren't of high earnings, no one introduced the assistant this way.
I shifted my weight to my other leg at their stares. It was judgmental.
“What happened to the old one?” Someone murmured at my side, and I leaned in to hear more, but I should have braced myself for what was next.
“At 8:45, the second day of her resumption, Ms Selena failed a clause of her contract, citing employer etiquette. And thus, a 5% will be deducted from her salary as a first-time offender.”
“What?” I yelled, forgetting where I was, and that was a bigger problem because everyone stares at me now.
“Why is she acting dumb? Didn't she read the contract?”
“What's this? Don't tell me she only found her way in because she is pretty. She is dumber than she looks then.”
“I think so too, she must be rich.”
It was a little loud. Loud enough that everyone could hear it, and they all seemed to be the same. I turned to Anastasia. She was already looking at me.
Indeed I didn't go through the employee contract after the second page.
Why? Because it was always a no big deal, plus I was under a condition.
There couldn't be more clauses except for no damage to the company, but it seemed there was more for T&M.
I sighed. If I weren't being paid by the mischievous woman, I would be freaking out now.
“I’m sorry for yelling. I’ve indeed not gone through the contract because I..”
Anastasia's frown only deepened. “Then, you aren't qualified to be this company’s assistant then. You will lead us into a crisis.” She turned to the door. “Follow me, we have all the other departments to visit. It isn't every time, one fails to abide by the rules.”
Absurd.
What was this place? A school?
The next few minutes, I was taken around different departments. My “sin” was announced while being ridiculed by everyone.
But I don't miss how their eyes were fixed on my clothes. There is no way they had noticed it was of average price right?
I had sought one of high quality, even getting a few knockouts.
And when we were done. I was exhausted.
I don't know if we had gone through all the departments but I was sure I was known enough to be told to others. Now we were in her office.
She slammed the document on her table, sat down, and she glared at me.
“The next time will be 10% of your pay, and it might not seem to affect you, but trust it does. I don't know how you got into this place with such level.” She mumbled the last part, but I could hear her.
She must have gone through my file. I wondered what she would do if she saw it was fake, and I never attended college.
“From now on, you are to get me my lunch, and come to work before 7:30, the company’s coffee shop opens by 7:45 so always get me one, and,” She moved to her bag and I frowned.
Why was I attending to her? I wasn't the lowest worker in the company, in fact, I was the boss's assistant.
“Hmm,” I coughed softly and she looked at me, more like glared at me.
“Mrs Anastasia, running these errands for you, won’t it make the boss the same level as you?” I voiced out, and her eyes flared.
“What do you mean?” She yelled.
I restricted myself, closing my eyes as I moved backward. My hands clasped together, my shoulders shook.
‘Take a deep breath.’
One.
Two.
Three.
I exhaled.
My eyes opened to look at her. She looked surprised as she stared at me.
My throat tightened, my head fuzzy. “I’ll do as you said.”
With that, I walked out, straight to my office, falling on the sofa.
I’ve acted up again. I had turned submissive when I shouldn't, just because she yelled, I had flinched and curled into myself.
‘Oh, you couldn't have thought you were normal again right? Oh please, don't flatter yourself, Selena. Acting out of line will always cause you trouble.’
I hated it. The voice. I swallowed.
My phone beeped. I took it out of my pocket and swiped the screen to Valeria’s number.
“You are truly bold coming to the office so late. What are you? The boss’s family? You should get your ass working on meeting Mr Rashford. And, good luck on sweet talking with him.”
What was wrong with everyone? I sighed.
It was just Tuesday, my second day here, and it's already so unbearable.
I opened the document she sent earlier. It was better to go now, and maybe I could get something to send to the mischievous lady.
