Chapter 64
Hearing the word “abroad,” Cedrick’s eyes tightened slightly, but he immediately chuckled, “Impossible!
How could she go overseas?
She’s just bored, learning for fun.”
“True…” Maricela nodded, “How could Lucille manage abroad? Forget traveling–without you there, she’d never sur- vive…”
Meanwhile, Harlan and David seemed to have hit some absurdly funny nerve. Trying desperately to hold back, they finally burst out laughing. “Sorry, Cedrick–I’ve pictured every tragedy in my life, but this… Ha! Your wife studying for the Porilinese Test… Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! It’s like a eunuch in a brothel–what’s the point?”
For a moment, all four of them laughed, including Cedrick, who was looking at her with amusement.
Cedrick, I Don’t Love You Anymore
She watched them too, smiling–calm and composed.
Gradually, Cedrick stopped laughing, and the others quieted down.
She looked at Cedrick, still smiling. “Is it funny?”
His eyes darkened.
Lucille kept smiling. “Laughing at your wife with others–is that funny?”
Cedrick had no reply.
“Lucille…” Maricela’s eyes reddened as she tried to speak.
Another performance?
Lucille didn’t want to hear it. She owed Maricela no audience. Putting on her earphones, she cut all ties with the
group.
Whatever coquettish grievances Maricela later showed Cedrick didn’t matter.
Wished she’d never met them.
From then on, this journey held no connection to them.
Getting luggage upon landing.
Maricela put on a tough–woman act, yanking open the overhead bin. “Ced, help Lucille with her bag! She can’t

reach!”
Lucille: ?

?
Cedrick, who’d been reaching for Maricela’s luggage, paused and moved to open Lucille’s bin.
Lucille almost laughed. So he was only helping her to save Maricela’s face?
Cedrick frowned. “What’s so funny?”
He hated that smile.
Her grin widened. “Just wondering if I should thank Maricela.”
Mentioning Maricela drew everyone’s guarded stares–as if a cripple like her could harm Maricela.
Maricela rushed to say, “No need, really, Lucille-”
Ignoring her, Lucille locked eyes with Cedrick. “Should I thank Maricela for lending me my husband–just for a minute–to carry my bag?”
“Lucille!”
Cedrick’s expression shifted instantly.
Not just him–Harlan and David’s anger boiled over, Harlan even clenching his fist.
Going to hit her?
Maricela’s eyes welled up again.
Ha. Lucille had no idea how she’d “bullied” Maricela this time…
“Excuse me. No luggage. Thanks anyway, Mr. Maynard.”
Lucille dropped her smile, brushed past Cedrick, and headed for the exit.
Behind her, Maricela’s tearful voice quivered: “Ced, I only meant well.”
“I know.”
That was Cedrick.
Simultaneously, Harlan snapped: “Ced, what does your wife even do besides bully Maricela?
Maricela, you’re too soft!”
Maricela–soft?

Biggest joke ever.
Lucille took a cab home from the airport. She knew Cedrick’s company driver would pick him up–so what?
Was there budget for her in that car?
She never expected a place in their world..
That circle would never accept her–not then, not ever.

Back home, she napped two hours. Then a text: Her visa for touring abroad with Ms Gomez was approved. Her pass- port would arrive in days.
Today’s flight misery washed away by this joy.
Everything progressed quietly and smoothly, each day filled with renewed hope,
She changed clothes, called a car, and went to see the student of an experienced herbal doctor for Acupuncture Thera-
Did it work? She truly didn’t know. But just like the past five years spent learning Porilinese and professional theories -things that seemed useless–who knew when they might become useful?
Even if she wasn’t cured at all, if her treatment process could become a case study, a piece of experience for the doc- tor, that was good too.
It had to be said, once life held hope, the whole person became much calmer.
