Harlan thought for a moment and said, “He just got divorced, so it’s normal for him to be upset. It’s like I said, even with a pet, you’d get attached after five years, let alone a person. Besides, Lucille is going to take at least half of his assets. His mind is a mess right now. Just give him a few days to cool off and he’ll be fine.”
Maricela shook her head. “No, that’s not it. He didn’t just start being cold today. I feel like… maybe we’re using the wrong approach.”
“What do you mean?”
Harlan was confused.
“I’m a woman, I can clearly feel the difference. Something’s been off with Cedrick ever since that night, after I slept in the same bed with him.”
“Is that so?”
Harlan said, “How come I didn’t notice?”
“Of course you didn’t notice, you’re not me. Anyway, I feel like he’s been much colder and more distant since that night. The most obvious change is that he barely hangs out with us anymore. You haven’t noticed that?”
Maricela sighed.
“It’s not a big deal. Trust me, just wait a little longer. Cedrick will definitely marry you. Besides, he’s divorced now, so the last obstacle is gone.”
After dropping Maricela off at home, Harlan didn’t go to the office or leave. He stayed at Maricela’s house to let his face heal.
“Looking like this, I can’t go anywhere. We’re both in the same boat anyway, might as well heal our faces together.”
Harlan said.
Cedrick and Harlan had suddenly disappeared from the company. David was holding down the fort alone, complaining endlessly. Three days later, he couldn’t take it anymore and called them both again, urging them to come to the office. It was a new week, and the company’s stock had plummeted at the opening bell again. Did they even want the company anymore?

The word “stock” that David mentioned reminded Cedrick.
That’s right!
The stock!
So, he immediately called Lucille.
This time, the call went through, and Lucille even answered.
“What is it?”
Lucille asked him coldly, her tone worse than a stranger’s.

“Lucille…” Cedrick was so choked up he couldn’t speak. Lucille had never been like this when he called before. In the past, whenever he called her, he could picture her smile just from the sound of her voice.
“Speak.”
“I…” Cedrick said hoarsely, “I’m at home, and it feels… strange. The house is so empty.”
“Oh.”
Lucille’s voice grew even colder. “You can call all your friends over for a party to celebrate your escape from misery.”
“Lucille, I haven’t, I wouldn’t…
“Why not?
My brother is planning to throw me a party to celebrate tonight!
We were married, after all. Let’s celebrate together.”
Cedrick wanted to laugh, but he only felt an immense bitterness. “Lucille…”
“If you have something to say, say it. If not, I’m hanging up. I’m busy.”
“No, no, no!
Don’t hang up!”
Cedrick said, “Didn’t you want to cash out your shares?
We need to set a time to go through the process. You have to give me the shares you currently

“Mm.”
“So, when would be a good day for you…”

“That’s up to you. Just tell me when you’re holding the board meeting, and I’ll show up to go through the process.”
“Okay… okay, okay, I’ll arrange the meeting right now. It’ll start in an hour, you wait…”
“Fine.”
Before he could finish, she cut him off. After a single “Fine,” she hung up the phone.
Listening to the dial tone, he had no choice but to swallow the last part of his sentence, “for me to come pick you up.”
He gave a bitter smile, but then immediately perked up and called David. “Notify everyone immediately. Board meeting in one hour.”
David heard Cedrick was finally back to his old self and was ecstatic, “Yes!
