In reality, she was still nervous being around Lucille, because the person who had dragged her to the basement knew everything about her. She was terrified that Lucille knew too.
But from the looks of it now, Lucille didn’t know. Otherwise, she would have exposed her and caused a huge scene long ago.
When she looked at Lucille, her gaze swept past Robert, but it was just a glance. A handsome man like him wasn’t her target; only rich old women would like him.
Harlan had already told her he was Lucille’s cousin. Some useless cousin who came out of nowhere. Lucille’s family was a bunch of losers.
Thinking of Lucille’s parents and brother, Maricela felt even more contempt for this cousin.
“Maricela, when you partner with the Rossi company, we hope to benefit a little too.”
An executive from a small company said to Maricela with a fawning smile.
Maricela waved her hands repeatedly. “Oh, we haven’t partnered with them yet.
Nothing’s set in stone!”
But she couldn’t hide the smug look on her face.
“Oh, come on. Is there any doubt?
The Rossi company is looking for the strongest tech company in Seaston. Who else could it be but you?
Don’t forget about us sisters then!”
“No, really…” Maricela’s smugness became even more obvious. “But, it’s pretty much a done deal. Our company is on very good terms with Leo, the heir to the Rossi company.”
“Really?
That’s so impressive!”
“Of course!”

Maricela smiled smugly. “Actually, it’s thanks to my connection!
The Rossi company’s headquarters is in Magraica, you know, right?

I was studying abroad back then, and Rossi and I were classmates. He was a big shot at our school, technically my senior. You know how it is, when you’re abroad and meet another Chinese person, it’s like meeting someone from back home, so we often did lab work and grabbed meals together.”
“Oh my god!
I had no idea you were the connection!”
“Yeah, why else do you think Mr. Rossi chose Seaston to set up his company in the country?
I moved heaven and earth to bring him over!”
Hearing this, Lucille’s jaw nearly hit the floor. She turned to look at her brother.
Her brother was swirling the wine in his glass, trying not to laugh.
Lucille felt she was so naive; this was the first time she had ever experienced a scene like this.
Beside her, Zoe scoffed, “Are you going to believe she knows Rossi, or are you going to believe I’m Julius Caesar?”
Lucille replied without hesitation, “All hail, Your Majesty.”
That made Zoe burst out laughing.
But Nicole looked worried, “She’s being so flashy, won’t it hurt the company? Let’s hope this doesn’t cause the deal to fall through in the end.”
Zoe was blunt, “If it does fall through because of her, they’ll have it coming. Actions have consequences. Who told them to spoil that precious darling of theirs?
Serves them right!”
As the four of them watched Maricela’s performance, she only got more into it.
“Oh
my god!
We had no idea there was such a backstory. Maricela, you’re amazing! You’re basically the lucky charm for Ruixiang Tech!”
“Exactly! We thought this partnership was just a sure thing, we had no idea you played such a

crucial part in it.”

Maricela basked in the flattery, but she put on a look of resignation. “Well, what can you do? You all know Cedrick built this company from the ground up all by himself. I don’t need to tell you how hard it was, everyone knows. It’s just that his wife at home… she’s…”
Maricela glanced over at Lucille’s table and lowered her voice. They couldn’t hear what she said, but you could bet it wasn’t anything nice. Afterwards, the group around her let out a chorus of sympathetic sighs.
“Oh, Maricela, you try so hard and get no appreciation for it. It must be so tough on you.
