Chapter 290
Robert wore gold–rimmed glasses, looking refined and handsome, a complete mismatch for his so- called nickname, “The Demon.” He grinned. “Looks like we’re off the hook tonight. Come on, let’s go get a drink over there.”
And so, their drinking venue shifted from the VIP lounge to the main banquet hall.
“Robert, aren’t you the star of the show?”
Lucille had even practiced how she would help her cousin play host at the banquet; she genuinely wanted to help Robert.
Robert smiled. “The foie gras looks good. Don’t tell me Edwin had it flown in?”
“Want some? I’ll go get you a plate.”
Lucille: …
Lucille didn’t want any. She was already full of water. Besides, the banquet hadn’t officially started yet. That was no way to make a spectacle of herself.
At the next table, a few girls were discussing jewelry, comparing notes on their custom–made pieces.
One of them said with a touch of regret, “Have you guys heard about a certain ruby necklace recently?
It’s a one–of–a–kind piece. The 55–carat center stone alone is worth over 200 million, and the whole necklace was auctioned for over 300 million. They say some tycoon from here in Seaston bought it. The deal closed just yesterday, but nobody knows who the buyer is.”
“I heard about that! But I didn’t know they were from Seaston. Which family? That’s a huge flex.”
“It’s a total mystery. No one knows who the buyer is. I wonder if we’ll ever see someone wear it to a banquet, just so we can feast our eyes on it.”
“We won’t see it today, will we?”
“Probably not. It couldn’t have been delivered this fast, right?”
Lucille looked down at the ruby necklace around her neck, then glanced over at Robert.

Robert just smiled, held up his hands in a shrug, and whispered, “That was Edwin’s taste. Don’t look at me.”
“Brother… I feel like my neck is a little too heavy…” Lucille admitted she was being unsophisticated. She was just an ordinary person, and a 300–million–dollar necklace was truly too much for her.
It seemed she had still underestimated her brother’s resources…
“Hang in there!”
Robert encouraged her, “My sister deserves everything.”
Lucille really couldn’t relax, because the representatives from Cedrick’s company had arrived.
The arrivals included: Harlan, Nicole, David, David’s wife Zoe Carter, and of course, Maricela.
Cedrick hadn’t come.
She had to admit, in Seaston, Cedrick’s company was a true leader in its industry. As soon as the group walked in, people immediately came over to greet Harlan and David.
“Hasn’t Mr. Maynard arrived yet?”
Someone asked.
“Oh, Mr. Maynard will be here any minute. He’s right behind us.”
Harlan replied with a smile.
“Your soon–to–be ex–husband is pretty impressive. He’s quite a big name in Seaston.”
Robert whispered to her.
Lucille shot him a look.
So Robert told her the truth, “Originally, based on capability, this partnership would have definitely gone to their company. Too bad…”
“Robert, are you playing favorites now?”
Although Lucille was kind–hearted, she wasn’t an idiot. She couldn’t just hand her brother’s money over to that bunch of bastards at Cedrick’s company, could she?
Robert glanced at her. “Lucille, their company’s survival depends on a single word from you.”

Lucille looked at the high–spirited group before her, lost in thought

“A skyscraper is built from the ground up. It’s not easy to build, but it can all come crashing down in an instant.”
Robert said meaningfully.
The two siblings were muttering to each other, thinking no one recognized them, but they couldn’t keep it up for long, because someone who knew them had arrived
The group of five made their way over, cheerfully greeting many people, and stopped when they passed by Lucille and Robert.
“Lucille!”
The person who called her name was David’s wife, Zoe.
Lucille smiled. “Zoe.”
