Chapter 223
She leaned in, whispering near Sophia’s car, “Didn’t your servant mother teach you?
Everything here is worth more than your life.
That brew? Worth a month of her wages.”
Tears welling up, Sophia ignored the pain, frozen in distress.
Maricela settled back on the sofa, smiling. “Relax. I’ll put in a good word with Cedrick later. But how will you thank me?
Rub my feet.”
She propped her feet on the coffee table.
Sophia stared in shock, utterly bewildered by this stranger’s hostility.
“Refusing?” Maricela’s smile turned icy. “Think. I walked in without keys. Guess who I am?
How’d I get in?”
Sophia knew–either a code or fingerprint. Both meant one thing: family.
She still didn’t know the passcode. Mom wouldn’t tell her or add her fingerprint.
Maricela snorted. “Figured it out now?
Know who I am?
One word from me, and you and your mom are out of this house!”
Sophia hesitated, torn between fear and hurt. The burn on her chest throbbed unbearably.
“Get over here!”
Maricela suddenly stood, grabbing her hair and yanking her forward. She shoved Sophia’s head toward her feet. “Consider it an honor to massage my feet. Understand?
Do it now!
Or you and your mom won’t just get kicked out!
Forget about staying in that private school!

Someone like you in a private school?
You and your mom belong digging in the dirt!”
Terror finally seized Sophia.

She couldn’t go back to the village… couldn’t… Dad would beat them to death… She needed school, skills, money to care for Mom…
Silent tears fell as she began massaging Maricela’s feet.
But she didn’t know how. The burn seared her chest, fear choking her. She bit her lip hard, fighting the tears, yet they streamed down unchecked. A few drops fell onto Maricela’s foot before she could wipe them.
Then an unexpected, brutal kick slammed into her burned flesh.
“Ah-!” she cried out.
“Your filthy tears got on me!”
Maricela shrieked. “You bitch!
You and your mom are both trash!”
Agony tore through Sophia’s chest, but she stifled her sobs. She crumpled to the floor, hands pressed over the wound.
“Stop faking!
Get up!
Come here!” Maricela screamed.
As Sophia struggled to rise through the pain, the lock clicked–someone was home.
Maricela spotted Mylee first.
Mylee froze, surprised. She’d expected Cedrick, but found her daughter on the floor.
Sophia scrambled up instantly. “Mom,” she said, forcing normalcy.
“What happened? Sophia?”
Mylee disliked Maricela but was just the housekeeper. With Lucille gone, she had no authority to question guests. She resolved to pretend Maricela didn’t exist.
Sophia felt Maricela’s venomous glare. She shivered, plastering on a smile. “Just tripped, Mom.”
“Tripped?” Mylee’s eyes fixed on Sophia’s soaked shirtfront, the angry red ring around her collarbone. “What’s this?”
“Nothing, Mom!” Sophia backed away, clutching her chest.
Maricela burst into laughter. “Scared to tell your trash mom?

Go on!
Tell the truth!”
Even Mylee couldn’t miss it now. Heartbreak and fury surged. “What did she do? Tell me!”
Sophia’s eyes filled with tears, not knowing what to do.

Maricela put her feet on the coffee table, “She poured water for me, like a useless person, couldn’t hold the cup steady, spilled it, just got burned a little.”
Mylee picked her daughter up and looked, her heart ached so much tears almost came out, this is “just got burned a little“?
The skin on her entire chest was burned so badly it peeled off a layer!
Mylee, with tears in her eyes, carried her daughter to the room, first applied burn ointment to her, “Sophia, sorry, mom came back late, mom will take you to the hospital.”
