She snatched it down, then feigned knocking. “Huh? Is your housekeeper out?”
Cedrick unlocked the door with his fingerprint. Everything stood unchanged from his departure–except her absence.
“Cedrick… ” Maricela stuffed the crane into her bag, scanning the room for anything else needing concealment.
Fortunately, only the crane remained.
After dropping his luggage, Cedrick moved instinctively toward the bedroom–Maricela shadowing him.
He slid open her wardrobe: emptiness gaped back.
Suddenly, he recalled her selling clothes on ebay days prior. “Too many clothes,” she’d claimed, wanting new ones. She’d been preparing all along…
He’d been a fool, utterly deceived!
“Cedrick, this… ” Maricela murmured. “Not a single dress left. Could Lucille… not be coming back?”
“Impossible!”
Cedrick snapped. “How could she not come back? She’s just throwing a tantrum.”
She loved him–had since high school, even sacrificed a leg for him. How could she leave?
“Cedrick, I know this hurts…” Maricela ventured. “Maybe check if Lucille left anything? An email? Or a note?”
The suggestion jolted Cedrick. He tore through every room, Maricela clinging to his heels–terrified Lucille might’ve left damning evidence.
Finally, Cedrick found the divorce agreement in the drawer, along with the letter Lucille had given him.
The letter was very short, just a few lines, and he could read it at a glance.
The most striking part was the word “divorce“.
Cedrick didn’t even glance at the divorce agreement’s contents. Those few lines of handwritten notes alone made him let out a cold laugh before tossing the papers onto the desk.
Maricela tentatively reached for the stack, surprised when Cedrick didn’t stop her. Growing bolder, she decisively picked them up. Her eyes flew across the pages before carefully reading each line, confirming Lucille hadn’t revealed the truth about the volunteer incident. She sighed in relief.
Yet she was stunned to discover Cedrick had purchased numerous properties under Lucille’s name, along with compa- ny shares!

Chapter 207
Even if Lucille renounced his family fortune, this divorce would leave her financially free!
“Cedrick-” Maricela called softly, “Don’t be upset. Lucille divorcing you-”

She intended to say: Lucille divorcing you means you still have us. But Cedrick cut her off before she could finish.
“She won’t go through with it.”
Cedrick stated firmly, “She’s just throwing a tantrum. This isn’t the first time she’s threatened divorce over a mood. She’s just angry…”
As he spoke, he pulled out his phone and searched frantically. His efforts yielded news: several dance academies and major troupes were touring Magraica for a month–long performance series.
He exhaled in relief, “Just one month. When she returns… I’ll teach her a proper lesson!
So reckless!”
Maricela’s eyes filled with profound disappointment. “Cedrick, this is my fault. If I hadn’t asked you to accompany me to the islands first, Lucille wouldn’t have left. I’m sorry.”
“Not your doing.”
Cedrick replied, “You must be exhausted following me around.
Why not head back to rest?”
“I’m not tired.”
Maricela shook her head. “How could I leave you alone now?
Cedrick, let me stay with you.”
Lucille slept late yet woke unusually early the next day, bursting with energy like a wound–up toy.
Tonight was the troupe’s dress rehearsal.
The daytime schedule overflowed!
Stage setup, costume preparations, countless logistical tasks.
Lucille calculated the time difference for a video call with her grandmother. After reporting her packed agenda, she plunged into work.
She assisted Meredith with coordination, helped backstage during breaks, organized costumes with the wardrobe
team…
Her day offered no respite, allowing her to bond with nearly every troupe member. Many already knew of “Birdie’s” reputation. Seeing her work so diligently despite her leg injury moved and endeared her to everyone.
