Chapter 195
“Your husband is going on a long trip, won’t you wish me a safe journey?”
He whispered in her ear.
At this moment, Lucille felt she wasn’t ruthless enough. If she were a bit more ruthless, she should be thinking about inheriting his fortune now.
She glared at him in the mirror and said coldly, “Aren’t you afraid I’ll curse you?
You have a huge fortune!”
He smiled, “You won’t, you’re so kind.”
Lucille was slightly stunned.
“How could someone who wanted to keep me for five dollars a day curse me?”
He murmured in her ear.
Lucille felt uneasy all over and found it strange. What exactly was Cedrick trying to do?
And he’s recalling things from twelve years ago?
Didn’t he hate that she liked him back then?
“Lucille.”
He took a deep breath and hugged her tighter. “I don’t know why, but I feel very uneasy about this trip, restless, like something might happen.”
Lucille froze.
Something would indeed happen, but her leaving wouldn’t be a big deal to him, right?
“Cedrick, are you afraid of flying?
Didn’t you fly around all the time before?
Are you afraid of dying?”
Lucille frowned.
“Afraid.”
Lucille: …

“Lucille, if I die, what will you do?
Who will take care of you?”
Lucille was silent.

She found it laughable. Having gone through being kidnapped and abandoned by him, hearing this felt hypocritical.
“Lucille, I want to hear you say ‘Honey, come back safe.“”
Lucille really laughed, the kind that brings tears. Her husband was going on a beach trip with another woman, and she was supposed to wish them a safe return?
What a huge joke is this?
How could he say that?
“Lucille, unwilling?
Don’t you want me to come back safe?”
He added, “Five hundred thousand, say it.”
“Well…” Lucille stopped laughing immediately. “Hmm, money or not, it’s nothing. I sincerely hope you come back safe. Come back safe, Mr. Maynard.”
“Cutting corners.”
He smiled, got up, and really took out his phone to transfer money to her.
So saying auspicious words really could get you a gift card.
“I’m leaving, Lucille. Be good and wait for me at home.”
After saying that, he leaned down and quickly kissed her on the cheek.
Lucille frowned.
Whatever, for the sake of five hundred thousand.
She heard the sound of him closing the door, heard him calling the driver, and figured he must have taken the elevator down. Only then did she call Grandma to say she wouldn’t be visiting today–she’d pick her up directly tomorrow morning instead.
At midnight, she finished tidying all the little chores and lay down to sleep.
Cedrick texted, informing her he was about to board.
She didn’t reply. Truth was, she really couldn’t care less about his schedule now. Her mind was completely occupied with her own flight tomorrow.
She’d set an alarm for four to fetch Grandma, then rush to catch the early flight. Right now, she needed sleep!

But Cedrick wouldn’t let up. He actually video–called.
Considering he hadn’t boarded yet, Lucille answered. The screen showed him in the VIP lounge.
Seeing her face, he smiled. “Asleep? Did I wake you?”
“Yes.”
She didn’t mince words.
“Just wanted to see what you were up to. Go back to sleep. Won’t disturb you. I’m boarding now.”

As he spoke, Maricela’s face appeared on screen, waving at her. “Lucille, sorry about this! Personal stuff came up, no free time later, so Cedrick’s coming with me to the island first. Don’t be mad.”
“Lucille won’t mind. Let’s go.”
Cedrick answered for her and hung up.
Lucille tossed her phone aside and tried to sleep.
