Only when you love someone do you care whom they favor. Without love, why would it matter?
Just like how you never cared about me, Cedrick!
“Why?”
Cedrick himself found it rather illogical. By all accounts, Lucille had loved him so deeply–how could she not care that he’d abandoned her at a critical moment?
Lucille had actually said it before: because she didn’t love him anymore.
But he never believed it, dismissing it as her just being spiteful.
She couldn’t be bothered to repeat it now. With only two days left before departure, she wanted no complications, no factors that might stir change.
After a moment’s thought, she simply stated, “People have to look forward, not keep dwelling on the past. Otherwise, how can you live?”
Cedrick breathed a sigh of relief, even offering her a rare smile as he touched her hair. “I’m glad you see it that way. Whatever happens, we’re in this for life. Staying happy and open–minded is what matters most.”
Lucille nodded. Of course–it was the “staying happy” part that mattered most, not the “for life” nonsense. Who wants a lifetime with you?
Cedrick then pulled out his phone. “I need to get back to work. Once I wrap things up these next two days, I’ll have time. We’ll pick up Grandma, then go on that trip!”
As he spoke, Lucille’s phone chimed with a notification.
Cedrick had transferred her a million.
Lately, he’d been showering her with gold coins like crazy!
More, please… love those coins.
“We should have about ten days. Think about where you want to go, plan a trip. Don’t worry about the cost.
Overseas might be too tight now, but nearby islands could work. Or you and Grandma decide–just arrange it.”
Lucille gave a vague nod. More travel funds for her and Grandma–nice.
But, since the coins had dropped, why was he still here?
Why was he still sitting across from her?

Chapter 184
She looked up to find him watching her with an unfamiliar expression.
The truth was, before Maricela returned, he’d always been gentle. But that gentleness was laced with coldness and distance, as if kindness was just a job–something he clearly resented but felt obligated to perform.
Now, however, his gentle gaze held actual warmth and satisfaction. Like those men in period dramas who took a mis- tress, pleased their primary wife was so magnanimous and virtuous–content with this facade of domestic harmony.
It was disgusting. Revolting.
“Why aren’t you leaving?”
She asked him bluntly.
Suddenly, he reached out and cupped her face.
Lucille felt a surge of dread.
Sure enough, he lunged forward as if to kiss her.
Quick as lightning, she pressed a fresh berry to her lips. His kiss landed on the fruit.
He recoiled instantly, shoving her away. “Get that thing out of my sight!
Disgusting!”
With that, he stood, ready to leave.
Lucille looked at the berry in her hand–half of it touched by his lips.
She promptly tossed it into the trash. Disgusting indeed!
“What do you want for dinner?
I’ll have my assistant book a restaurant. I’ll pick you up.”
He paused, glancing back at her. “I’ll come get you myself.”
“Whatever.”
She lay back on the sofa. So comfortable with one less person there.
Coming himself? Should she thank him?
“I’ll decide then.”
He grabbed his car keys and left.
The moment Cedrick left, Lucille started pondering how to handle the divorce. Should she bring up divorce papers these two days, get it done at City Hall before he leaves? Or leave a letter declaring her decision, then finalize it when he returns in a month?
