Chapter 117
“Right… call if you need anything!” The guard’s parting glance lingered on Lucille.
Staff knew the household dynamics. The lady’s lameness naturally drew sympathy.
Lucille nodded. “Thank you.”
Once the door shut, Cedrick gestured. “Sit.”
Mylee guided Lucille down, but Maricela gasped-“Ouch!“–staggering back to the floor.
Cedrick turned. “What happened?”
“Nothing, really!”
Maricela feigned rising bravely, then crumpled again in “agony.”
“Did you fall?”
He hurried over, lifting her.
She melted against him, whispering, “It’s fine… Lucille accidentally pushed me earlier. Maybe my ankle… But it’s nothing!
Really, Cedrick, don’t worry!”
Groaning through clenched teeth, she insisted she was fine. Cedrick sighed. “Always pretending to be strong when you’re hurt… You care too much about others…”
Lucille: ?
Enough?
The actually crippled woman didn’t utter a word, yet Maricela’s putting on an act here. And he’s sighing over her resilience?
Maricela should quit faking lameness–Cedrick playing blind suits him better!
Hearing Cedrick’s words, Maricela teared up. “Cedrick, I just didn’t want to trouble you…”

Cedrick helped Maricela sit on the sofa, his voice softening “I know. I understand everything.”
Bullshit!
Lucille rolled her eyes.
“Mylee.”
Cedrick started giving orders. “Fetch the ointment to rub Maricela ‘s ankle.”
But Mylee stood firmly beside Lucille, unmoving.
“Mylee?”
Cedrick sharpened his tone.
Mylee stood her ground. “Sir, you hired me to care for Madam, not to serve loose women.
Mylee’s words stunned Lucille.
Though Mylee had cared for her diligently since her marriage, often offering woman–to- woman advice, Cedrick was right–he paid Mylee’s wages. Ultimately, she answered to him.
Yet now, Mylee gripped Lucille’s arm, trembling but resolute as she defied Cedrick for the first time.
Maricela’s eyes welled up again. She bit her lip, head bowed, radiating silent victimhood.
Cedrick couldn’t bear it.
His expression darkened, eyes swirling with storm clouds. “Mylee. Have you lost your job sense?”
Mylee flinched.
Fear flashed across her face, but stubbornness held firm.
Cedrick’s gaze turned icy. “What about your daughter? Should she stop attending school too?”
That hit Mylee’s weak spot.
She’d escaped an abusive, cheating husband in the countryside, bringing her daughter to the city. Cedrick had secured the girl’s schooling because Mylee cared for Lucille so well.

Using this threat? Despicable!
“Cedrick!” Lucille snapped. “You’d stoop this low? Are you human?”
Cedrick remained unmoved, his voice cold and detached. “As CEO, I can’t keep staff who defy orders and show zero respect.”
“Cedrick! You-”
“Enough.” He cut her off. “Today, she apologizes to Maricela or packs her bags. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.”
Maricela sniffled, tugging Cedrick’s sleeve. “Cedrick, don’t pressure Mylee! She barely knows me–why would she call me a woman of ill repute? It must be a misunderstanding…”
Lucille understood: Maricela implied Mylee’s insults came from Lucille’s coaching.
If Lucille caught it, so did Cedrick. His eyes locked onto her.
Lucille laughed coldly. “What? Think I badmouthed your precious goddess behind her back? Want my apology too?”
Maricela’s act intensified. She kept tugging his sleeve. “No, Cedrick! I’d never demand Lucille’s apology! I came to apologize to her! Please don’t fight because of me…”
“Exactly!” Lucille retorted. “You don’t want us fighting. You just want me dead!”
“Lucille!” Cedrick thundered. “Do you realize the gravity of accusing someone of murder? How dare you pin that on Maricela !”
Lucille sneered. “She dared to burn me alive. Why shouldn’t I dare to accuse her?”
“I’ve said it was an accident ten thousand times! Will you never let this go?”
Cedrick’s rage flared higher, “She came to apologize to you, what more do you want?”
“Apologize?”
Lucille stared straight at Maricela, “Tell me, did you come to apologize?
