Chapter 30

After packing a few things for the weekend, I had a quick snack and cleaned the place a bit while waiting for Tyler to arrive. I was worried about Ben, and Tyler, and catching this guy and his lackeys once and for all.

I called Uncle Ben to let him know I was coming tonight and bringing a friend. I’d never brought a guy to the mountains before this.

“You finally found some balls, did ya?” he asked, gruff as always.

I ignored that comment. “I want him to meet you, see where I grew up.” I cleared my throat before continuing. “He’s a shifter like me, Uncle Ben. What are the odds, huh?”

“Well, don’t question it to death, boy. Just go with it. I expect you two here in time for dinner.”

“Yes, sir,” I replied, and then he hung up. Typical. I smiled as I finished my chores, did some laundry, and checked my emails.

Right around five, Tyler knocked on the door. “Come in,” I called, since I’d left it unlocked.

Tyler was a sight for sore eyes, as always, and my dick went semi-hard, as expected, at his very presence. He had a backpack in one hand, and wore jeans shorts with a Wolverine T-shirt.

“Hey there, hot stuff,” he said, and came toward me to give me a kiss. Before he could move away, I grabbed the back of his neck to hold him close so I could play with his tongue some more. His taste was always so wonderful, I had to get as much of it as I could.

Finally, I allowed him to move back. “Guess you’re happy to see me, huh.” He grinned, placing his bag on the ground beside us.

“I’m always happy to see you, boy. Never doubt that.”

Tyler shivered at my words. “Is it odd to say that I love it when you call me that?”

“Call you ‘boy,’ you mean?” I asked, squeezing the back of his neck.

“Yesss,” he hissed, his head falling forward onto my shoulder. I put an arm around him and held him close to me.

“You have a good day, love?” I queried as I rubbed his back up and down, slowly. It was soothing, to both of us.

“I did. I don’t have much at my place. I got a change of clothes and cleaned up a bit.”

I kissed his hair, then gently pushed him back. “I pretty much did the same thing. Hey, are you hungry?” I led the way to the kitchen to get us some bottles of water for the trip.

“No, I’m good. I ate something a little while ago. I’ll be hungry when we get to your uncle’s place, though.” He took the water I handed to him.

“He’s expecting us, and he knows how much I eat, so I’m sure he’ll just double it.” I grabbed my bag and walked to the door. “Let’s get on the road.”

Tyler followed me out of the condo, and I locked the door behind us. My car was on the second level of the building’s parking deck.

Once Tyler was buckled in beside me, I started the engine. “Is it okay for me to park in the visitor’s spot all weekend?”

I backed up before answering, “Oh yeah. I let the building know I had a guest for a few days. Not a problem.”

We made our way out onto the street, and I headed for I-75/85 North. Traffic was heavy, since it was rush hour, but we weren’t in too much of a hurry, and things would clear up eventually.

Tyler reached back to grab a bottle of water. He opened it and drank half of the contents. “So, anything new with this case?”

I signaled left to change lanes so I wouldn’t get caught in the restricted zones. “I’ve asked my IT guy to keep an eye on our target’s emails, check his hard drive, and snoop around a bit. He’ll text me if he finds anything.”

“What about breaking into the suspect’s house?” Tyler asked.

A car moved in front of me a little too quickly and I had to slam on the brakes not to hit his bumper. “Idiot!” I yelled, though the driver couldn’t hear me. I checked the rearview mirrors and thankfully the car behind me wasn’t tailgating, so they’d braked in time, too.

“Atlanta drivers, man,” Tyler commented. Out of the corner of my eye I saw him pry his fingers off the door handle.

“Yeah.” My heart rate slowly reduced, and we had no more incidents like that for the rest of the trip. “To answer your question, I’ll pursue that when we return from the mountains next week. It may also be a good idea to check out Remmy and Devlin’s places, too, see if there’s anything there.”

“Maybe,” Tyler replied, “but we might find enough on this guy’s computer anyway.”

“He’s smart. He might have cleaned everything off, or be using a flash drive. On the other hand, he could be cocky and figure there’s no way to trace things back to him.”

“Well, let’s hope it will be over next week. I want my life back,” Tyler said.
