Wanted

*Her*

He stepped toward me, caging me between the wall and his hard chest. Those haunting forest green eyes of his burned me. The heat of his breath fanned my cheeks and I choked on the words I wanted say.

Get away.

But the sadness in his eyes emptied my chest. Everything about him drew me in. I knew it would be impossible for me to pry myself away from his pull. He pressed his hands to the wall, his arms grazing my hips.

I shuddered at his touch, almost moaning at the feeling. Like a flash of lightning, every memory of his touch rushed through my mind, setting my skin aflame.

He was my everything. And he had taken it all away. I had walked like a ghost for the past four years, and now I was ready to fall apart all over again.

For him. Always for him.

His fingers kissed the skin on my jaw, bringing me back to the intensity of his gaze.

“Baby, please tell me I still have a chance.”

My head spun. My lungs ached for air. I leaned against his arm, pushing until he moved away and I could step away.

“You need to leave, Kian,” I faced away from him, not wanting to see his pleading eyes and not wanting him to see the weakness in mine.

“Inesa.”

“Go, Kian,” I forced myself to whisper.

“I’m sorry.”

I spun toward him as I scoffed, “Sorry? You think that’s enough to make up for all of this time? You broke me.”

“I-“

“I thought I was pregnant, you know?”

The look on his face was satisfying. I knew it was almost insensitive to throw that on him, but I wanted him to hurt. I wanted him to feel a fraction of the pain, of the fear that I had felt.

His eyes flickered, his skin paling and his eyebrows shooting to his hair, “What?”

“I was in a car accident,” I began to explain.

But he didn’t react. He only nodded, as if he had heard those words before.

I continued, confused, “I was on my way home from buying a pregnancy test when I was hit.”

He rushed to me, his warmth enveloping me like a cure. My body swayed toward him as he pressed his hands to my cheeks.

His thumb caressed the scar I had won that night. It was right on my cheek and the touch was skin-prickling.

“You thought you were pregnant?”

I nodded, “I wasn’t.”

“I should’ve been there.”

I shook my head from his hold and stepped back, “You should have. It was-so much happened.”

My voice broke out into a sob, and I covered my mouth, feeling like I was going crazy. He watched me, his eyes turning back and his jaw clenching and unclenching.

“That’s when I found out Rick wasn’t actually my dad. And oddly enough it made us closer.”

I chuckled, but I froze when, again, he looked at me as if he already knew.

I tilted my head, “You knew?”

He tensed and looked around the room before he was forced to look at me again. He nodded, stiffly.

I jerked back, “How? Rick wouldn’t have told y-“

It clicked. I felt like an idiot. And at the same time, my body reacted with a flood of warmth followed by an overwhelming nausea that tilted my stomach painfully.

“The blood,” I whispered, “It was you?”

He looked to the ground, “I- your father showed up at my place. I was on house arrest. And asked me to get tested. To see if we were a match.”

Anger and guilt filtered through me. He had broken up with me by then. Left me. He shouldn’t have cared.

I shook my head, “He shouldn’t have asked that of you. You shouldn’t have done it. I’m sorry he asked.”

He recoiled, his eyes turning dark, “I would have given you my heart if you needed it.”

I wiped the leftover tears from my face, “What a load of crap, Kian. You weren’t even willing to be with me.”

I wanted to be left alone, to process what was happening. I twirled on my heel, ready to close myself in my room when he reached for me and gripped my arm.

He called for my name, but I twisted my arm out of his hold, and he choked on the last part of my name. The sound was filled with pain and I felt like a jerk when I saw him grimacing and rubbing his chest.

The wind was knocked out of me when memories plagued me. Everything. I had felt that day returned like a storm. The sight of him in the hospital. Of me taking care of him. Of the pain, fear and terror that had filled me those days.

It was too much.

He hissed, his shoulders falling.

“Can I see it?” I found myself asking.

Shock was evident in the wideness of his features, but he nodded and didn’t waste a second before he gripped the back of his shirt and pulled it over his head.

The scar was small, deep, and it reminded me of what it looked like all those years ago. Bloody.

My legs carried me to him and I pressed my hands on his chest, slowly moving my fingers until I softly grazed the broken tissue. He shuddered, his breath fanning my face.

“I was so scared that day. The only thing I could think of as I bled out was you,” The crack in his voice was triggering and I looked up at this beautiful green eyes.

I responded to his tears with some of my own.

“When Kevin told me, I lost it. I thought I was going to lose you,” I whispered.

“You didn’t,” He ran his hands through my hair, gripping the back of my head and forcing me to keep my gaze on his.

I shook my head, “But I did. I did lose you. You left me. And I loved you, Kian. So much.”

“Shhhh, my love.”

He pulled my head toward his chest, still running his hands through my hair. He smelled the same. He smelled so good. His skin was warm and I could hear the wild staccato of his heartbeat. His breath was loud as he exhaled, and I knew he was struggling to keep his composure.

I dug my fingers into the skin of his chest, letting my tears stream down my cheeks.

My mouth was dry as I spoke, “I wanted to marry you. I wanted- I wanted-“

He lifted my head from him, frowning as he looked into my eyes, “I did too. I still do. I want everything with you.”

And then, as if no time had passed, he kissed me.
