Chapter 25 It's my fault
"I'm fine," he said calmly.
"But your wound is bleeding," I cried, "you need a doctor."
Frank is not an ordinary Beta wolf; he is also a werewolf with Alpha bloodline. Even though an Alpha's body has the ability to self-heal wounds, injuries inflicted by a werewolf of the same rank are no small matter. If the wound is not treated promptly, it could lead to an infection.
"If you go find a doctor, everyone will know I'm injured," Alpha Devon said, holding onto my shoulder, "help me walk slowly as if nothing happened. We need to leave this place!"
I wiped away the tears from my face and tried to appear calm. I pressed my body close to his to conceal the bloodstains on his clothes. Fortunately, no one noticed us as we walked through the hallway. Soon, we reached outside the club, and Alpha Devon immediately called Mike. Five minutes later, Mike arrived in his car.
At first, Mike didn't notice anything wrong with Alpha Devon, but as soon as I helped him into the car seat, he sensed that something was amiss.
"Is everything alright, Alpha?" Mike asked hesitantly.
"Stay quiet. Drive the car straight ahead until we're out of the border," Alpha Devon frowned, holding his wound with one hand. "Hurry!"
The car sped away, and we quickly reached the border. I nervously watched Alpha Devon's pale face as blood continued to slowly seep from his wound. A large bloodstain spread on his shirt, quickly consuming the white fabric.
"How much longer until we reach the pack?" I shouted in distress at Mike.
"I'll do my best!" Mike said, driving while speaking, "It'll take at least 10 more minutes!"
Ten minutes? I couldn't wait for even a single minute.
"Stay quiet, Aray," Alpha Devon leaned his head back and calmly told me, "I'll be fine. Let me rest quietly for a while."
I looked at him in pain, watching his hand covering the wound turning crimson. Then a daring idea popped into my mind. I tore off a corner of my skirt and used it as a bandage to tie around his wound, then I gently removed his hand and replaced it with mine.
The car kept moving, and Alpha Devon leaned his body against mine, his face showing no expression. But I could sense the pain the wound was causing him.
Has he always used silence to conceal his pain?
As I looked at him, I felt self-blame and anguish.
I kept telling myself that he is the most powerful Alpha wolf in the pack, and he will be fine.
However, my heart remained restless, and various anxious thoughts buzzed in my mind like flies.
Lowering my head, I checked Alpha Devon's wound. Thankfully, although my hands were stained with his fresh blood, the wound was no longer bleeding as profusely as before.
As the car prepared to reach the pack, Mike called the doctor and drove directly to Alpha Devon's exclusive residence. Dr. Stephen and Anna were waiting outside. They helped Alpha Devon up to his room, and I followed closely behind.
They had Alpha Devon lie down on the bed in the bedroom, and as Dr. Stephen examined his wound, Anna instructed me to fetch towels and hot water.
As I approached the room with the towels and hot water, I overheard Dr. Stephen asking Alpha Devon, "Your wound is infected with lycanthrope venom. Whose claws were so dirty?"
"Rogue's claws," Alpha Devon replied.
"Frank?" Dr. Stephen asked, "The Rogue who gained the king's trust by reporting the New Moon pack's involvement in the rebellion?"
What? I could hardly believe my ears. So, that red-bearded judge reported the New Moon pack's rebellion to the king. No wonder he became the chief magistrate. What grudge does he hold against the New Moon pack, and why would he do this?
"Did you fight with him?" Dr. Stephen asked. "I remember you used to work together."
Alpha Devon knows Frank; they used to be colleagues?
"Aray!" Anna called me, "Why are you standing outside? Quickly bring the towels and hot water in."
I snapped back into focus and handed the plate with the towels and hot water to Anna. I deliberately stayed inside the room, hoping to hear more of Dr. Stephen and Alpha Devon's conversation. However, their discussion abruptly stopped when Alpha Devon gave a command.
"Aray, go outside."
Reluctantly, I left the room. I knew he deliberately kept me away. Is there something he's hiding from me? Does he also know the secret of the New Moon pack's rebellion?
After about half an hour, Dr. Stephen was the first to come out of the room, and I immediately asked him about Alpha Devon's condition.
"I've cleaned the lycanthrope venom from his wound," Dr. Stephen said, taking off his mask, "His body is already in the process of self-recovery. I believe he will be completely healthy within two days."
"Do we need to give him any other treatments or medications?" I anxiously asked, "Or should we get some medicine for him?"
"Aray, don't worry," Anna reassured me as she came out, "My brother has a robust physique. If it weren't for the lycanthrope venom infection, this kind of wound wouldn't be fatal to him. You just need to take care of him."
"Alpha Devon requested us to keep his injury a secret, especially from Luna," Dr. Stephen said, "Alpha doesn't want her to know what happened tonight."
"Can you handle that?" Anna asked me.
I nodded, wondering if Alpha Devon had told them about what happened at the club. Did he tell them that he got injured while trying to save me?
As I saw them off downstairs, Anna whispered to me, "I can imagine that men might fight on such occasions, but fighting over a bottle of alcohol is ridiculous. I hope you can persuade him not to be so impulsive in the future."
"I will," I said.
Fortunately, he didn't reveal the truth to them. Only he and I share the secret.
After watching them leave, I returned to the house. Standing outside AlphaDevon's half-covered bedroom door, I hesitated. Guilt surrounded me, and I didn't know how to face him in that moment.
"Why are you standing outside the door?" Alpha Devon's voice came from inside the room.
After a 2-second pause, I pushed the door and entered. Alpha Devon had already stood up from the bed. He was naked, with a white hemostatic bandage covering the injured area. He remained tall, and his face displayed its usual calmness.
He moved slowly towards the sofa in the room, gesturing for me to come closer.
"Come here."
I approached him with my head lowered, feeling like a child who had made a mistake. He pulled me into his arms and seated me on his lap.
"I'm sorry. I hurt you," I blamed myself, "I shouldn't have left."
"It's not the first time I've heard you apologize," Alpha Devon raised my chin and looked at me intensely, "I'd rather see you take action than hear apologies."
Confused, I asked, "How?"
“have a baby with me.” he smiled mischievously and began to unbutton my chest.
