CHAPTER 17 Next time, call the police first
Liz's voice was loud and harsh. Everyone on the spot heard it.
Shawn sneered. "The dead is dead. You should care more about the living."
With out more words with Shawn, Jack said to the babysitter with his hands clenched, "Let's go!"
Shawn stood there and followed the tall figure into the car with his eyes. In an instant, the limousine disappeared from his sight. From distance, a white figure was approaching slowly. When met with the figure, Shawn's sight got tender.
While he was driving, Jack asked Liz what's going on. Being flustered, Liz kept mumbling and didn't give the name of the lonely street she's at until Jack fell impatient. Jack had no time to drop the babysitter and the baby before he heavily stomped on the accelerator. He was driving so fast that he didn't even notice the panic on the babysitter's face.
He pulled over at the street end at which the car couldn't go further and started searching for Liz on foot.
It was merely after a few paces that Liz leaped out from aside and threw herself to his arms. Jack didn't like such surprises, but he didn't say a word looking at Liz's frightened face.
"I was so scared, Jack." Liz embedded herself into his chest as if she wanted to be fused to it.
Jack grabbed her shoulders and shoved her away. "What's going on?" He asked.
Liz's face was covered in fear and piteous. "I found someone stalking me and ran here. I was so scared."
"Did you call the police?" Jack said rationally.
"No. I was just scared." There was guilt in her eyes. "Sorry for bothering you, Jack."
"Next time, call the police first." He gave in and took out his phone to call the police.
Looking at what Jack's doing for her, Liz felt delighted. For a man that protected her like this, which girl would not be moved? She crossed her arms around his shoulders and wanted to kiss him. For such a sweet kiss, which man would reject?
"The baby and the babysitter are still out there. Let's go back first." Jack took a step back and dodged the kiss. Shawn's words, somehow, came up to his mind.
Liz was disappointed at first, but hearing that Jack was going to take her to his house, she was later cheered up. "Is the baby there? I want to see the baby."
As she finished speaking, she took Jack's hand and left the place.
Back in the car, Liz put the baby in her arms and began teasing him. The baby had a pair of shiny black pupils. His skin had lost its wrinkles and turned baby-pink. Though he was very cute, Liz didn't like him because he looked a lot like Stephanie, especially his eyes. She felt envious at the fact that Jack was always looking at this child.
"He is so cute." Liz said, pretending to be unintentional. "His eyes remind me of his mother."
"His mother?" Liz's words piqued the babysitter's curiosity. She had always been sympathetic to this child who had lost his mother at such an early age, but nobody mentioned his mother at home, so she didn't dare to ask more about her.
"His mother was…" Liz smiled as if recalling some sweet memories, but was interrupted by Jack who was driving in the front.
"Don't mention his mother. She's not worthwhile being talked about." His cold but resolute voice scared the two on the back seat. Afraid of his identity, the babysitter at once fell mute while Liz looked down to hide her smirk.
Back in his house, Jack went to change his clothes and the babysitter needed to prepare food for the baby, so they asked Liz to look after him. Liz, naturally, gladly agreed.
The baby's room was decorated in a childish style. Liz played with the baby while picturing her future life with Jack and their child, but the more she thought, the more envious she got.
This baby should not have existed. It was him who took away the happy life of her own child. Meanwhile, the baby put one of her fingers in his mouth and started sucking it, which enraged her. "You filthy little bastard! You are just like your bothersome mother!"
The baby was scared by her malicious words and broke into tears. Liz was flustered but she"d got no experience of looking after a baby, which made him cry even harder.
"What are you doing!" Jack chided at the door in his newly-changed clothes.
