Chapter 46 The Superstar (8)
The next day.
When the director saw me, his face was plastered with a flattering smile.
Even his tone when speaking to me was noticeably softer.
At one point, he grabbed my hand like we were long-lost siblings, "Emily, you must join me for the next project, okay? Same pay, no changes!"
I gave him a few vague responses, neither agreeing nor refusing.
How odd. This variety show was something the real Emily had begged for relentlessly before finally being allowed to join.
After she entered the group, the director completely ignored her, mocking her behind her back several times.
Why are you acting like a different person today?
"Check the trending topics."
Suddenly, Bensham’s voice rang in my ears.
His tone was slow and drawn out like he hadn’t fully woken up.
I quickly pulled out my phone.
The top trending topic was glaringly obvious:
#Emily to Star as Lead in Big-Budget Production#
As I scrolled down, the following twenty entries were all about me:
#Second-Tier Actress Emily#
#Emily’s Overnight Rise to Fame#
#Emily: A Fanatic Finally Gets What She Deserves#
As I read, my head filled with a jumble of thoughts, and I turned to Bensham with a deep frown. "What’s going on?"
Bensham gave me a suspicious look, ensuring I wasn’t playing a trick on him, before finally explaining.
"James happened to see your performance yesterday. He posted online, saying that for his next movie, the lead actress must be you."
"James? Which director is that?"
Having only recently arrived, I still didn’t know a lot.
Bensham took a deep breath, his tone almost exasperated.
"James. The most renowned director in the country. His next movie? Even the supporting roles are filled with A-list stars. Plenty of big-name actors and actresses couldn’t even get a shot at the lead."
He paused, then added with a touch of disbelief, "Basically, once you finish filming this movie, your status will leap straight to the top tier."
Oh, wow.
So exciting!
He patted Bensham on the shoulder, offering him some "comfort." "I wanted to work my way up step by step, but my talent won’t let me."
He smacked my hand away without hesitation and said, "Get out."
Thanks to the trending topic, today’s show gave me much more screen time than usual.
At times, it even felt like everyone was trying to accommodate me.
The days of being excluded felt like they were from another lifetime.
I nudged Bensham’s shoulder with a grin, "Still jealous?"
He let out a mysterious chuckle.
"Heh. What’s there to be jealous of when I’m richer and have a higher status than you?"
Me: ......
I realized something strange.
This guy, with his blunt honesty and straightforward attitude—I liked it.
I gazed deeply into his eyes, and to my amusement, his ears turned a faint shade of red under my stare.
"Would you like to--"
Bensham turned his head slightly, looking a bit flustered.
"--to be my little sidekick?" I asked.
"Emily, GET LOST!" Bensham was annoyed.
