Chapter 43 Betrayer Revealed

Chapter 43 Betrayer Revealed

The night was silent now, Tiara felt the pulse of danger vibrating beneath her skin. The council chambers lay in disarray after the poison attack, and her wolf was restless, prowling invisibly within her senses, scenting betrayal in every shadow.

She moved through the SilverShield camp’s central hall, boots echoing against stone, every muscle coiled with alertness. Damien was already there, his sharp eyes scanning every movement, mind weaving possibilities with lethal precision.

“Tiara,” he whispered, stepping close, voice low and urgent. “I’ve traced the magical residue. It’s not NightFang directly, it’s someone inside our ranks.”

Tiara’s stomach twisted. She had felt it, a pulse of familiarity, a heartbeat she had trusted. Her wolf growled in warning, claws itching to strike, but she stayed calm. Alpha control. Focus.

The first sign came from the eastern wing. A flicker of movement, a shadow slipping between tents. Tiara’s senses flared. “There,” she said, voice taut with command. Her silver eyes glimmered as her wolf whispered warnings.

Damien’s hand brushed hers briefly, grounding her. Trust yourself, he sent through the bond. We’ll handle this together.

Tiara nodded, heart hammering. Her wolf surged, scenting fear, guilt, and malice all at once. She stalked silently, weaving between the campfires where her pack trained under moonlight, each step calculated.

The shadow moved again, faster this time, reaching toward the armory. Tiara’s pulse quickened. Whoever this was, they were skilled, subtle and dangerous.

She stepped forward, commanding presence radiating without words. “Stop!” Her voice cut through the night like silver lightning. Wolves instinctively froze, sensing her Alpha authority.

The figure hesitated, then turned. Recognition slammed into Tiara like a physical blow. It was Kellen, one of her Beta, the one she had trained personally, the one who had sworn loyalty to SilverShield.

“Kellen…” Her voice trembled, but her wolf snarled inside her chest, claws scraping the edges of her restraint. “Why?”

He lifted his chin, eyes defiant yet shadowed with panic. “I—” He hesitated, as if measuring truth and lie on a knife’s edge. “I did what I had to… to survive. To protect my family.”

Tiara’s chest tightened. “Betrayal never smells like fire, it smells like familiar blood.” Her wolf hissed, urging her to strike, to shred the treachery out of him.

Damien stepped beside her, hand on her shoulder, steadying. “Tiara, control. We need him alive for answers.”

Her wolf growled low, a rumble in her chest, a pulse of raw power. She inhaled deeply, aura shimmering faintly silver. “You’re a traitor,” she said, voice low, sharp as a blade. “And traitors pay the price of their pack.”

Kellen’s gaze flickered to Damien, hope mingled with fear. “Please… he’ll kill me if I don’t cooperate.”

Damien’s jaw tightened. “We’ll use him, he sent quietly, but don’t let him break your focus.”

Tiara stepped closer, wolf senses flaring. The betrayal stung more than NightFang attacks ever could, one of her own, trained under her hand, breaking the bond of trust. Her mind raced, heart clenching with every second.

“You think betraying me will protect anyone,” Tiara said, silver eyes glowing faintly. “But all you’ve done is make yourself prey. And me… furious.”

Kellen swallowed hard, the weight of her presence pressing down. He could smell the wolf within her, the power she had barely begun to wield fully. Not just a mate… an Alpha in blood and soul.

Damien motioned subtly, stepping into the shadow of the wall. “Tiara, we have a choice, interrogate him now, or contain him until we understand the NightFang connection.”

Tiara’s wolf shifted beneath her skin, tension coiling, instinct demanding action. But she trusted Damien’s judgment, letting her emotions balance with logic. He’s my equal. My strategist. My anchor.

She exhaled slowly, silver aura pulsing faintly. “Tie him. Carefully.” Her pack members moved with efficiency, binding Kellen without harm but leaving no room for deception.

Once secured, Kellen’s fear became palpable. “I… I only did it to gather information for the NightFang,” he admitted, voice shaking. “I didn’t want anyone hurt, just… to protect the pack from the outside.”

Tiara’s wolf snarled in her mind. Protect? By betraying? By poisoning your own?

Damien stepped closer, voice calm but steel-laced. “We’ll verify your story. If you lie… you’ll answer not just to Tiara, but to the SilverShield pack in full.”

Kellen swallowed again, sweat beading his brow. “I swear… I am loyal to her… truly.”

Tiara’s wolf sniffed the truth like scenting prey. Partial truth. Half lies. Dangerous loyalty. She studied him for a long moment, silver eyes piercing. “You’ve shaken my trust. That is something you will earn back… if you live.”

Damien’s gaze softened toward her, understanding the emotional toll this betrayal had on her. He whispered, “We survive together, Tiara. You are not alone in this.”

Tiara exhaled, wolf muscles coiling and relaxing in response. Trust had been fractured, but her control remained intact. She had learned something vital tonight: betrayal often comes from where you least expect.

Suddenly, a chilling vibration raced through her senses, a message carried on a cold wind, searing her consciousness. She staggered back slightly, wolf roaring in recognition of danger.

A disembodied voice, cruel and deliberate, hissed into her mind.

“We know your weakness, Alpha Aria.”

Tiara froze, pulse skyrocketing. Damien’s eyes sharpened instantly, scanning the perimeter as if the shadows themselves could reveal the source.

Kellen cowered beneath her gaze. “What… what is that?” he whispered.

Tiara’s wolf howled silently in fury and alertness. She felt the threads of NightFang strategy weaving around her, probing, testing, predicting. Someone had just announced war in her mind.

Damien’s hand found hers again, grounding her. “We expected NightFang to strike, but this… they know more than we imagined.”

Tiara’s lips pressed into a thin line, silver aura flickerin
g like lightning in a storm. “Then we’ll make them regret ever learning it.”
