Chapter 431 Truth
Chapter 431 Truth
By the beach, in an abandoned shipping container warehouse.
The air was thick with the smell of rust and salty sea.
Wendy slowly regained consciousness.
The aftereffects of the ether left her with a splitting headache and a body devoid of strength.
She was tied to a cold metal chair, duct tape sealed tightly over her mouth.
Several men in black tactical gear, armed with weapons, were eyeing her like she was merchandise.
The leader, a man with blonde hair and blue eyes, had a cruel yet elegant smile on his lips.
It was Vincent.
He walked up to Wendy, lifting her chin with the barrel of his gun. "Dr. Knight, don't be scared."
His English had a strange accent.
"We don't want your life."
"You're just bait."
"Bait to catch a big fish."
Wendy's eyes were filled with fear, not for her own life, but for the person who might die because of her!
At that moment, the heavy iron door of the warehouse was kicked open from the outside.
The loud noise echoed through the empty warehouse.
Everyone was startled by the sudden change, turning their guns towards the door in unison.
Against the light, a tall, imposing figure walked in alone, slowly.
It was Alexander.
He wore only a thin black shirt, his face expressionless. His deep, unfathomable eyes locked onto Wendy, ignoring everyone else.
Seeing her tied to the chair, pale and helpless.
His aura instantly dropped to freezing point.
Vincent smiled, full of pride. "Mr. Turner, you got here faster than I thought."
"Welcome to the party I set up for you."
Alexander's gaze swept over Vincent's face, finally landing on the gun barrel pressed against Wendy's chin.
"Get that thing off her." His voice was calm, yet carried a chilling authority, "Or I promise, you'll die a very ugly death."
Vincent laughed exaggeratedly, as if he had heard the funniest joke. "Mr. Turner, are you not seeing the situation clearly? Right now, I'm the one in control..."
Before he could finish, Alexander moved!
No one saw how he moved, only that he was suddenly right next to the nearest armed man.
In a swift motion, he broke the man's wrist, and before the scream could escape, he had the man's throat in a death grip.
Using the man as a shield, Alexander snatched the gun from his hand, his movements fluid and lightning-fast.
The gun fired.
The bullet didn't hit Vincent but precisely knocked the gun from his hand that was aimed at Wendy.
Sparks flew!
Vincent's hand went numb, the gun falling from his grip. His face changed, showing fear for the first time.
He roared, "Kill him!"
The next second.
Another iron door of the warehouse was smashed open by an even greater force!
Through the swirling dust, Francis and Dean led dozens of black-clad bodyguards, flooding in like a tide.
"Protect Mr. Turner!" Francis shouted.
Instantly, gunfire erupted!
The dense muzzle flashes wove a deadly web in the dim warehouse.
Bullets clanged against the containers, sending sparks flying.
Vincent's men, well-trained, quickly found cover and engaged in a fierce shootout with the Turner family's bodyguards.
The air was filled with the smell of gunpowder, blood, and death.
Alexander's focus, from beginning to end, was solely on Wendy.
He grabbed a steel plate, using it as a shield, and moved step by step towards the cold metal chair.
Wendy's pupils contracted sharply.
She watched as Alexander used his tall frame to block all the bullets aimed in their direction.
A bullet grazed his arm, drawing a line of blood.
He didn't even flinch.
Another bullet hit his calf, causing him to stagger, but he stubbornly pressed on.
Madman.
Alexander was a madman!
Tears welled up in Wendy's eyes as she shook her head desperately.
Just as Alexander was three steps away, a mercenary hiding behind a container aimed his gun at Wendy's forehead.
"Die!"
The mercenary sneered, pulling the trigger.
Time seemed to slow down.
Wendy could see the bullet's trajectory as it left the barrel.
It's over.
She closed her eyes in despair.
But the expected pain didn't come.
Instead, she heard the dull thud of a bullet piercing flesh.
She opened her eyes abruptly.
Alexander...
He had shielded her with his back at the last moment!
His tall frame shuddered, blood spurting from his mouth, splattering her pale face.
Warm, metallic-tasting blood.
Wendy's mind went blank.
All past grievances and barriers.
In that moment, they were obliterated by the expanding bloodstain on his back.
All that remained was the suffocating, heart-wrenching pain.
"Alexander." She wanted to scream, but the tape over her mouth reduced it to a desperate whimper.
Just then, a mocking applause echoed from the shadows of the warehouse.
The gunfire paused eerily for a moment.
Everyone turned towards the source of the sound.
Sophie, in a stunning red dress and high heels, walked out of the darkness like a queen.
Her face twisted with a sick, deranged smile. "Alexander, look at you now. Like a dog, battered and bruised, fighting for a bone."
She stood over Alexander, looking down at him with eyes filled with unrequited love.
"I loved you so much! What does she have that I don't?"
"Why won't you even look at me?"
Sophie's voice shifted from mocking to hysterical.
Then, her venomous eyes fixed on Wendy.
"And you! Wendy!"
"You bitch!"
"Do you think Alexander is innocent? Do you think he's your savior?"
Sophie laughed until tears streamed down her face, her laughter like the wails of a demon from hell.
"Let me tell you a secret."
"Your parents, your grandfather, those so-called righteous doctors!"
"Do you think their deaths were really an accident?"
Her words struck Wendy like a thunderbolt.
Sophie sneered, spitting out the cruel truth.
"If they hadn't helped the Turner family investigate our Russell family's drugs, pushing us to the brink!"
"My grandfather wouldn't have had to create that 'accident' to save the Russell family!"
"The Turner family! Alexander!"
She pointed at the faltering Alexander.
"He was an accomplice in your family's deaths!"
"He knew all along! He knew everything! But he didn't dare tell you a word!"
"He was afraid you'd hate him! That you'd leave him!"
"Alexander, you're a pathetic coward!"
Wendy's world shattered completely.
Every word was a hammer, pounding her heart.
So that's how it was.
As her mind reeled, her soul seemingly detached from her body.
Sophie shot a cold glance at Vincent in the corner.
Vincent understood immediately, pressing a small, inconspicuous remote in his hand.
Alexander, knowing Sophie well, followed her gaze and saw Vincent's action.
His pupils contracted sharply. Without thinking, he used his last bit of strength to throw himself over Wendy.
A deafening explosion!
The container next to Wendy blew up!
The terrifying blast wave sent everything around flying!
