Chapter 23 Conversations
I found myself awake again by four in the morning, this time my stomach rumbled of hunger, I thought I could it for it until I heard Adrain let out a heavy sigh and he turned around in bed.
The lights came on and his eyes met mine.
“Get up.”
“What.”
“I am not going to say it again Elara, get up right now.” He stated,
“No, I am not getting up, and my papa can hear you from here so don’t tell.” I gritted through my teeth, I see no reason why he would what me o get up form the bed.
I watched as he stood up from the bed and when I thought he was reaching toward me to whisper something in my ear, he wrapped his hand underneath me and he carried me in his arm.
“You may want to keep quite, I am sure you don’t what to wake up your papa.” He stated and I rolled my eyes at him.
I didn’t speak as I watched him lead us out of the room.
—
“Now sit and don’t say a word.” He threatened when we got to the kitchen, I settled on a chair by the kitchen island, his eyes were on mine for a moment even he turned on the stove and he took out some ingredients out of the fridge.
“You are cooking, you could not say that like a normal human being.”
“What’s the fun of being normal Elara?.” He started and I smiled at him.
I didn’t think he could care that I am starving.
My eyes were on his as he started to make the grilled cheese, and he used some left over bacon and chicken.
“Where did you learn how to cook? Your mom.” I asked and he stared at me for a moment before he looked away
“Mom never cooked.” He said bitterly.
What happened to him? What is he hiding.
“Tell me about the people in the portraits, you said we should get to know more about each other so papa would not think we are lying.”
“I know everything- yet I know nothing about you, not even your middle name.” I said cutting him off, come on, if this is ever going to work, we need to at least be friends, I know you can barely stand me and believe me, I can barely do the same to you too.” I said and he smirked.
“You have no idea what and how I feel?”
“Don’t you want to try and be friends, we are going to be stuck with each other for two months, come on.” I whispered and his eyes were on mine.
“What you need to know is that, no on in that picture is Alive except for me and it doesn’t even matter, they are all gone and that’s how it’s always going to be.” He said and my breath hitches. I watched as he turned off the stone and he handed me over the meal.
My lips burned because of hot hot it was yet I didn’t seem to care about it, it didn’t matter to me.
My eyes were on his for a second, why didn’t he like his family?
“Do you think your mom could still be alive.”
“If she was, papa would have found her a long time ago , you don’t need a body to know if someone is gone or not Adrian, papa and I grieved her, we grieve her on her birthday and I don’t think she is with us, she won’t be.”
“Sounds like you don’t want her to be alive because you are scared.” He said as he settled beside me. “Look at me Elara.”
“I am having a meal.” I breathed out as his eyes stared at my body, I didn’t have to turn to know that he is staring at me.
“Don’t- make you say it twice.” I breathed it when I turned to look at him, his eyes were on mine. My mind filled with anger when he placed his hand on my face softly pushing my hair out of the ear.
“You are scared that if she is alive, you would never be able to get to know her, you are scared that even if she is found, she may not be the same person you know because deep down you made yourself forget all about her, you can barely recall much about your mama and you hate it, you don’t want her to find out.”
“You know nothing Adrian.” I yelled, I dropped the food to the ground when his eyes met mine again. “You want the truth, here is the truth, I think something horrible happened to you as a kid that’s why you never what the door to be closed, someone close to you did that to you, someone you thought loved and cared for you and because that, you are scared, worried even for others when they love the door and you hide it under your disguise of being a great mafia king.” I yelled standing up
My heart rising with anger as I stared at him, my mind filled with even more thoughts.
“You think it’s easy to tell someone the truth about what they know and they are trying to ignore, it’s not because even you have secrets and I think the people in that portraits, one of them did that to you, not one, the way I see it.”
“Watch your tone Elara.”
“It’s easy to speak someone’s truth yet it’s hard to accept yours, isn’t it.” I stared at him with a smile on my face, my eyes were on his when a tears slipped out of my eyes.
He has no right to say that about my mama, about me.
“Your family never loved you that’s why you hated them and from that picture they sure did love each other but not you and it makes you upset.”
“Enough.” He yelled banging the plate to the ground and I smiled
I am done with the conversation too.
