Chapter 283 Complete Defeat
Chapter 283 Complete Defeat
Emily was hiding right outside Cynthia's dorm. As soon as Cynthia showed up, Emily would shoot her dead!
Then, Cynthia would be gone from this world forever!
Emily waited downstairs at the dorm for several hours before she finally saw Cynthia's figure. Cynthia was walking arm-in-arm with a friend, sunlight falling on her face, bright and radiant.
Completely different from her own appearance, hiding in the shadows!
Emily's grip on the gun handle gradually tightened, her heart racing. After taking a deep breath, she slowly raised the scope.
Cynthia, today is your last day!
The gunshot rang out, and the huge recoil nearly knocked Emily out of her wheelchair. She adjusted her position, eager to see Cynthia lying in a pool of blood.
But when she looked over, Cynthia was nowhere to be seen!
The bullet had hit the wall. The gunshot instantly panicked the students around, who were looking everywhere for places to hide. The scene became chaotic, making it even harder for her to spot Cynthia!
Emily rolled out in her wheelchair, blending into the crowd, searching for Cynthia.
Too many students were fleeing in panic. Emily's wheelchair was knocked over hard, and she fell to the ground, the gun rolling to the side.
A passing student saw the gun on the ground and shouted out loud.
"It's her! She's the one who fired the gun!"
Everyone's eyes turned to Emily. A woman who couldn't even stand up posed no threat at all.
The panic gradually faded, and some brave students stepped forward, kicking the gun away from Emily to make sure she couldn't grab it back.
"I recognize her, that adopted daughter from the Lockhart family, Emily!"
"It really is her! How did she bring a gun here? And she actually tried to kill someone!"
"She's in a wheelchair and still causing trouble?"
Everyone had been terrified by the gunshot, so naturally, they were angry when facing Emily.
"She must have come here to kill Cynthia because she holds a grudge!"
"How terrifying! How can someone be so jealous?"
"She stole Cynthia's identity, and now she wants to hurt Cynthia! How shameless!"
Emily lay there on the ground, nearly drowning in their scolding and criticism. She wanted to escape, to hide, but she couldn't even stand up.
Her dignity was destroyed in this moment, despair and pain crushing her heart bit by bit.
Suddenly, in the crowd, she saw Cynthia, completely unaffected.
Cynthia was still bright and beautiful, so perfect that even her hair seemed to glow in the sunlight.
"Cynthia!"
Emily growled, "You'll get what's coming to you!"
Cynthia slowly walked out of the crowd.
Looking at the pitiful Emily with sympathetic eyes, "Looking at you now, who's the one getting what's coming to them?"
Emily clenched her fists hard, dirt from the ground under her fingernails.
"Emily, you could have lived a peaceful and comfortable life."
Cynthia shook her head helplessly, "Even though you weren't the Lockhart family's biological daughter, Mom and Dad prepared a big house in the city for you, gave you substantial assets, and enough money to last you a lifetime. If you hadn't been so obsessed and destroyed it all with your own hands, your legs wouldn't be like this, and your life would have been better than many ordinary people's."
Hearing this, Emily's heart felt like it had been punched hard.
She didn't dare think about the past because she was afraid of regret, afraid of hating herself.
But when Cynthia laid the reality out before her so brutally, she could no longer ignore everything she could have had.
She could have walked like a normal person, could have continued living as a wealthy person.
But now...
Emily was completely crushed. The hatred in her eyes turned to despair as she collapsed heavily on the ground.
She could never start over again.
Until the police rushed over, picked up the gun from the ground, and heavily cuffed Emily's wrists.
She stopped struggling completely.
Flora held Cynthia's arm, watching Emily being taken away, her eyes full of disgust.
"You're so unlucky to be targeted by such a vicious person."
She couldn't understand how someone could go this crazy.
"Let's go."
Cynthia didn't want to waste any more thought on Emily—it would just be a waste of time.
"Let's go to class."
"Okay."
Days passed, and Cynthia never heard about Emily again.
She had too many things to keep busy with, from drug research to preparing for her wedding with Augustus.
Fortunately, Augustus was handling everything. From the venue to the drinks, from the outfits to the accessories, Augustus would prepare multiple options according to Cynthia's preferences, and she only had to choose her favorite.
Cynthia saved herself a lot of trouble.
But she also felt a bit guilty.
She leaned on Augustus's shoulder as they watched the sunset by the sea.
"With the presidential election going on, you're already so busy, but you still have to worry about our wedding. It must be exhausting."
Augustus pulled Cynthia into his arms.
His greedy kisses kept falling, as if he could never get enough.
"I'm enjoying it."
Augustus kissed her for a long time before reluctantly letting go of Cynthia, his affectionate gaze settling in her eyes. "Planning every detail of the wedding will become a beautiful memory for the rest of my life."
Cynthia raised her hand and hooked it around Augustus's neck. "How are you so good with words?"
Augustus smiled and kissed Cynthia's lips again.
The scene he had been anticipating for countless days and nights was coming soon.
He held his most beloved woman, kissing from her lips to her cheeks, from her cheeks to her ears, gently brushing his lips against Cynthia's earlobe. Cynthia felt ticklish and struggled, and they both fell onto the beach. With the romantic sound of waves, they felt each other's warmth.
"Cynthia..."
Augustus's husky and magnetic voice sounded in her ear.
"Thank you for coming into my life."
Cynthia cupped Augustus's face. Under the night sky, his face looked even more striking and handsome, almost unreal.
She looked at him seriously, her mind replaying all the moments they had shared during this time.
His thoughtfulness and patience, how he nearly lost his life for her, all the good he had done for her—everything was so perfect.
"I should be the one thanking you for always choosing me so firmly."
She clearly remembered that at first, she had no plans to get married, let alone fall in love with Augustus.
It was his gentleness that gradually broke through the walls around her heart, making her willing to open up and believe that love still exists in this world.
Augustus gently tucked the stray hair by Cynthia's ear behind it, gazing at her affectionately.
"Cynthia, I have a gift I want to give you."
