Chapter 276 Shameless Mistress
Chapter 276 Shameless Mistress
"No need."
Cynthia didn't care about this. If she didn't even have this much trust in Augustus, she wouldn't have agreed to his proposal in the first place.
"Work is more important. Don't disturb him."
Frank looked at Cynthia carefully. "You're not angry?"
"What's there to be angry about?"
Cynthia smiled. "I trust Augustus. He won't do anything to betray me. If some crazy person could ruin our relationship with just a few words, wouldn't that make our relationship too fragile?"
Hearing Cynthia say this, Frank finally felt relieved and couldn't help giving Ms. Lockhart a thumbs up.
"Alright, since Augustus isn't here, I won't go up. You get back to work. I'm heading home."
Frank hurried after her. "Ms. Lockhart, let me drive you back."
"No need, I drove here."
Leaving the Winthrop Group building, Cynthia drove all the way home. Just as she reached the foot of the mountain, she saw reporters blocking the gate from afar.
Since outsiders couldn't go up to this villa area, they could only wait at the bottom of the mountain.
Without guessing, Cynthia knew these people were here for her.
After all, the online discussion was so intense that wherever she went now, she easily caused a commotion.
Cynthia had to choose another small road up the mountain.
Just as her car was about to turn around, a reporter spotted Cynthia's vehicle, and a group of people rushed toward her like crazy.
Dozens of people instantly surrounded her car. Even if Cynthia wanted to leave, she couldn't move.
"Ms. Lockhart! Regarding the recent rumors about you online, what would you like to say to everyone?"
"Ms. Lockhart! There are rumors that you're connected to gangs in Thalassia. Does this have anything to do with the Lockhart Group? Does the Lockhart Group have any criminal operations?"
"I heard that after this news broke, the Lockhart Group's stock price plummeted. Do you feel like you've dragged down your parents' company?"
"Ms. Lockhart, is your hobby of watching beast fights a sign of a lack of love from leaving home at a young age?"
Cynthia impatiently honked her horn. Security finally rushed over and quickly pulled the reporters away.
Cynthia's car could finally move normally. She drove through the gate, then slowly rolled down her window and looked at the reporters.
"As reporters, you should have the responsibility to investigate the truth, not follow ordinary internet users and get swayed by public opinion." Cynthia coldly scanned the crowd. "Instead of investigating and gathering evidence, you're waiting here, wasting time questioning me. Do you still remember how to be a good reporter?"
Cynthia hadn't wanted to say much, but this society was too easily manipulated by online opinion.
Even the journalism profession couldn't escape it.
This deeply disappointed her.
After speaking, she drove away.
When Cynthia got home, she saw Beatrice in the living room, speaking to Randolph with a heavy expression.
"The first issue isn't even resolved yet, and here comes another one! Why are all these people targeting Cynthia?"
Cynthia walked over to the sofa. "Mom, what happened now?"
Beatrice jumped at the sound of Cynthia's voice.
She frantically put away her phone.
"Nothing, Cynthia. Are you hungry? Let me make you something to eat!"
Beatrice's face clearly showed guilt.
"Mom, what exactly happened?"
Beatrice looked at Randolph with difficulty. Randolph sighed heavily.
"Show it to Cynthia. She'll see it herself soon enough anyway."
Beatrice handed her phone to Cynthia. It was a woman doing a live stream.
Cynthia looked carefully—wasn't this Natalia?
Natalia had tear stains in the corners of her eyes, and behind her hung a photo of her and Augustus together.
Looking at it, it should be from a few years ago.
She was still wearing a school uniform then, probably still in high school.
"That Cynthia seduced my fiancé while I was abroad. When I came back to confront her, she beat me up!"
As she spoke, she raised her hand, casually revealing bruises on her arm.
Cynthia could tell at a glance that those were fake injuries she'd drawn on.
The live stream comments were all sympathizing with Natalia.
"Long-distance relationships are already hard to maintain. Coming back to find your fiancé stolen by someone else must be so heartbreaking!"
"I understand you! Because my boyfriend was also stolen by a mistress."
"This Cynthia is too awful—connected to gangs, watching sick shows, and stealing someone's fiancé! And openly showing off at the homecoming party! She's treating us, viewers, like fools!"
"Just because she's the Lockhart family's daughter, she does such shameless things. So disgusting!"
Beatrice couldn't watch anymore.
"Cynthia, Augustus definitely isn't that kind of person. Someone must be jealous of you and trying to drive a wedge between you and Augustus!"
Cynthia didn't care about these things. She asked, "Mom, I heard the Lockhart Group's stock price dropped sharply because of this. Is that true?"
Randolph patted Cynthia's shoulder.
"That's a small matter. We don't care about the stock price drop. We just don't want this to affect you and make you upset!"
Their eyes only showed concern about whether Cynthia would be hurt.
Cynthia asked again, "With the stock price dropping so much, there must be many shareholders wanting to sell their shares, right?"
"You don't need to worry about that," Randolph said. "I naturally have ways to handle it. Your job right now is to eat well, sleep well, and stay in a good mood. We'll help you solve everything else!"
If he couldn't even protect his own daughter, he didn't deserve to be her father!
"That's not what I mean," Cynthia said. "I'm saying, if the shareholders are planning to sell their shares, we should take advantage of the low stock price and buy them all up. When the price goes back up, we can watch them regret it."
Randolph thought Cynthia would be sad and depressed, but seeing her so confident, he suddenly felt his comforting was a bit unnecessary.
"Cynthia, have you already thought of a solution?"
Cynthia nodded. "Mom, Dad, don't worry. This situation is actually helping us see some people's true colors, and it's helping the company weed out some disloyal shareholders. Just wait for my good news."
Randolph certainly believed in Cynthia's abilities.
"Good!" He nodded firmly. "Cynthia is truly my daughter. I'll wait to see how you slap those people in the face!"
"As for this Natalia."
Cynthia gently held Beatrice's hand. "Mom, you don't need to worry about my relationship with Augustus. This Natalia is basically asking for it."
