Chapter 273 The Daughter of the Lockhart Family Is a Pervert

Cynthia scrolled through the comments one by one. She showed no emotional reaction, but Augustus couldn't bear to watch.

He took her phone back and turned it off.

"They don't know you. You don't need to look at this."

Augustus worried that Cynthia's emotions would be affected. He pulled Cynthia to sit down and gently put his arm around her shoulder. "This matter will be investigated and cleared up. You'll be proven innocent, don't worry."

Cynthia wasn't upset by the online attacks. She just found it strange—who had secretly photographed her, and why release the photos right after her homecoming banquet?

It was obviously meant to destroy her reputation.

"No need," Cynthia shook her head. "I can handle it."

"Give me the phone."

Cynthia held out her palm. "I want to see what else people are saying."

She needed to know which way public opinion was leaning so she could figure out the real purpose of whoever was behind all this.

Augustus gave the phone back to Cynthia.

He understood Cynthia. She was mentally strong and thoughtful. He just instinctively wanted to protect her, but after thinking it through, he knew Cynthia could handle all of this.

He shouldn't treat her like she was weak.

Cynthia opened the comments again.

"The homecoming party incident caused such a huge scene. Everyone said the Lockhart family's adopted daughter, Emily, tried to frame Cynthia and failed, then got kicked out of the Lockhart family in public! But I think it might not be that simple! It's very possible that everything was Cynthia's plan, just to destroy Emily!"

"I bet someone like Cynthia has been bullying Emily all along!"

"Right! One is an ordinary, gentle adopted daughter, the other is a female thug mixed up with the Thalassia gang. It's pretty obvious who's bullying who!"

"Poor Emily, kicked out of her home and still getting blamed!"

Emily...

Cynthia's eyes gradually grew cold. So many people mentioning that name—it was already very clear.

But how did Emily get these photos?

Cynthia yawned.

Augustus spoke gently, "Let's sleep first. Whatever it is can wait until tomorrow."

"Okay."

Cynthia took a shower. When she came out of the bathroom, she saw Augustus lying in bed.

She really didn't have the energy to have sex with him tonight.

"Don't worry." Augustus patted the space beside him. "I won't move around. I won't disturb your rest."

This time, Cynthia lay down in bed without worry.

Fresh from the shower, Cynthia's body carried a fragrant warmth, her skin soft and smooth.

Augustus pulled Cynthia into his arms, trying hard to suppress the heat rising inside him.

He didn't dare move much. The most he allowed himself was to place a gentle kiss on Cynthia's forehead.

Then he quickly turned off the light and closed his eyes, not daring to move again.

He was afraid that one movement would completely ignite the desire in his body.

"Good night."

"Good night."

The next morning, Augustus originally wanted to stay with Cynthia, but she said having him there would actually distract her.

So she sent Augustus off to work.

She then began investigating everyone who had recently been in contact with Emily.

She hacked into Emily's phone but didn't find anything particularly unusual.

Ever since Emily's identity as not being the Lockhart family's biological daughter was exposed, no one wanted to call her anymore. Over all these days, she had only been in contact with one unfamiliar number.

Cynthia traced it and found the number belonged to a delivery person.

Cynthia then hacked into the delivery company's internal network to check recent packages Emily had received.

She discovered that three days ago, Emily had received a package from prison. The sender was Wendy.

The problem might be right here.

She had originally wanted to investigate from the posting locations of these news items, but found they were spread all over the world—clearly, the poster was deliberately hiding their identity.

Cynthia was looking at her computer screen when there was a knock at the door.

"Cynthia?"

Beatrice's voice came gently from outside.

"I made you breakfast. Will you eat a little?"

Beatrice had also seen the online news first thing in the morning. She was so angry that she contacted many media friends, but none could find out who posted it. She could only order websites to delete the related posts.

But these posts were like a virus—as soon as they were deleted, someone would post them again with a newly registered account. There was no way to delete them all!

Beatrice was very worried about Cynthia, thinking she was alone in her room, feeling upset.

"Mom."

Cynthia opened the door and smiled as she took the breakfast tray. "Mom, why did you get up so early today?"

Looking at Cynthia's expression, she didn't seem sad at all.

Beatrice thought Cynthia was pretending to be strong, so she wouldn't worry. Thinking this, her heart ached even more.

"Cynthia, no matter what happens, I'll stand in front of you! You don't need to pay attention to those things online. I'll definitely handle it for you!"

Cynthia was somewhat moved.

She actually hadn't known how to explain things to Randolph and Beatrice.

After all, she really had appeared at the fighting arena, and she really did know Brutus.

She had thought Beatrice would blame her, question her about why she appeared in such a place, why she associated with such people.

After all, as the Lockhart family's daughter, being exposed for this kind of thing would greatly damage the Lockhart family's reputation.

"Mom, you don't blame me?" When Cynthia asked this question, she was still a bit nervous. "Don't you think I'm that kind of bad girl?"

"Of course not!"

Beatrice didn't hesitate. "In my eyes, you'll always be the best! If you appeared in that kind of place, you must have had your reasons. I believe in you. You wouldn't do anything against your conscience. In my eyes, you'll always be the kindest, smartest girl!"

Cynthia's eyes grew a bit teary.

The feeling of being unconditionally believed in really did give her great strength.

"Thank you, Mom."

"Then I'll come in and eat breakfast with you, okay?"

Beatrice was afraid that if she just gave Cynthia the breakfast, she might forget to eat it, so she wanted to supervise her finishing it.

Cynthia nodded. "Okay."

Beatrice sat at the table with Cynthia. Beatrice accidentally glanced at Cynthia's computer screen.

She happened to see Emily's name.

Beatrice put down her sandwich. "Could those things online be related to Emily?"

"I'm just guessing," Cynthia explained. "Because I found that the online public opinion is all about smearing me and pitying Emily, so I suspected this matter was related to her. Sure enough, I found that Wendy sent her a package from prison, and not long after that, the photos were posted online."

Beatrice's eyes widened with anger. "That Wendy! She's shameless to the extreme! Even in prison, she still won't behave!"

"And Emily too—she can't even stand up herself, but she's still trying to harm people."

Cynthia hadn't asked about Emily recently. Hearing Beatrice say this, she couldn't help asking more.

"She can't stand up? Is she disabled?"

"Yes, she called that day asking me to pay her medical bills, saying how pitiful she was, that her lumbar vertebrae were shattered and she'd have to live in a wheelchair from now on. Isn't that her own fault?"

Hearing this, Cynthia suddenly had a new idea.

She needed to go to the prison and properly "visit" Wendy.
