Chapter 266 Countless Gifts
Chapter 266 Countless Gifts
After the homecoming banquet ceremony ended, everyone entered the banquet hall where Randolph had prepared a very lavish dinner.
Cynthia held onto Augustus's arm, with her five brothers by her side, like a little princess surrounded by her court.
Cynthia walked to each table to greet everyone.
"You drink this."
Augustus took the wine glass from Cynthia's hand and replaced it with a glass of sparkling water.
"I can drink alcohol." Cynthia was a bit unhappy. "I'm not a little kid."
"You are a little kid," Augustus said gently. "In my eyes, you'll always be a little kid."
Hugh cleared his throat beside them. "Do you two have to show off your affection all the time?"
He walked around Augustus to Cynthia's other side and replaced the sparkling water in her hand with juice.
"Cynthia prefers mango juice."
Cynthia smiled helplessly. Raymond glanced at Hugh coldly.
"Hugh, do you have to compete with your sister's husband for attention all the time?"
"They're not married yet! What do you mean by 'sister's husband'?"
Hugh still couldn't accept that Cynthia would be getting married when she hadn't been by his side for very long.
He really couldn't bear to let her go.
"That's enough."
Raymond walked over, looking at Hugh with disgust. "You have to compete over everything. You don't act like a brother at all."
With that, he quietly took the mango juice from Cynthia's hand and replaced it with the coconut water he had prepared.
"Coconut water is healthier."
"Are you guys ever going to stop?"
Ethan walked over, his serious expression softening only when he looked at Cynthia.
Although the four brothers had all achieved success, they still couldn't help but fear Ethan.
After all, their respect for Ethan was a habit ingrained in them since childhood.
"You all drink your own drinks."
Ethan spoke. "What does all this fighting look like?"
Hearing this, the others put away the drinks they had prepared.
"Cynthia will drink the lemon water I prepared for you."
Cynthia couldn't help but laugh out loud, and even the usually serious Ethan smiled indulgently along with her.
Ethan rarely smiled, and this was the first time he had joined in the family's playful chaos.
Hugh watched from the side, thinking how nice it was to have Cynthia around—even Ethan seemed more pleasant now.
Cynthia walked to Wyatt and Efrain's table. Wyatt, with his silver hair, was shedding tears.
"Wyatt, what's wrong?"
When Wyatt saw Cynthia, he cried even harder.
"Cynthia... I'm so happy, I just couldn't hold it in..."
He had watched Cynthia grow up since she was little. Her strength, her independence, every step of her growth was deeply imprinted in Wyatt's heart.
He had finally seen Cynthia emerge from hardship and find her own happiness.
He couldn't help but feel emotional.
"Look at you, so pathetic."
Efrain, beside him, looked at Wyatt with disdain. "At your age, aren't you embarrassed in front of Cynthia?"
Then Efrain proudly lifted his head. "Look at me, I've maintained the best condition today to celebrate for Cynthia!"
"Then what's that?"
Wyatt pointed to a pile of used tissues in front of Efrain's table.
"Who was just crying so hard their snot ran into their mouth?"
Efrain's face darkened. "You just said you'd keep it secret!"
Wyatt pursed his lips. "You're the most pathetic one!"
"You're the pathetic one!"
"Last time with the college admission thing, when you snatched Cynthia away, I haven't settled that score with you yet!"
"What score! Cynthia is closer to me, of course, she'd choose my school!"
"Efrain, you old fool!"
Just as they were about to start arguing again, Cynthia quickly intervened. "Wyatt, Efrain, we're in public..."
Not at home.
Cynthia had watched them argue since she was little. When she made desserts for them, they'd argue. When she bought identical gifts for them, they'd argue too...
They'd been arguing their whole lives, but Cynthia understood that arguing didn't affect their friendship.
"Mr. Brown, I'm talking to you. Stop making a fuss, you're embarrassing Cynthia."
Wyatt glared at Efrain indignantly. This time, they quieted down.
The guests at nearby tables watching this scene were stunned.
"Oh my God, Mr. Brown and Mr. Hubbard are competing for a young woman's attention?"
"Am I seeing this wrong? This is too shocking..."
"What's the background of this Ms. Lockhart from the Lockhart family? Look at all these people who came today—every one of them is a big shot we don't even get to meet normally."
"I heard many of them came for Ms. Lockhart."
"This Ms. Lockhart is really something. We should make a good impression on her later; we have to leave her with a good impression."
"Wyatt, Efrain."
Augustus held his wine glass with both hands and bowed to them with the highest respect.
"Thank you for taking care of Cynthia all these years."
He knew Cynthia had suffered a lot at the Harris family. If it weren't for these elders' care, he didn't know how unbearable Cynthia's childhood would have been.
So Augustus was truly grateful to them.
Seeing Augustus so serious, Wyatt felt deeply moved. He patted Augustus on the shoulder. "We're entrusting our Cynthia to you."
"Wyatt, you can rest assured, I will cherish her with all my heart."
"That's good," Wyatt said, gently holding Cynthia's hand. "On such an important day for you, I must give you a big gift."
Cynthia was about to refuse when she saw Wyatt pull out a document.
"These are my properties all over the world, including almost every industry—medical, real estate, and entertainment. I'm giving all of this to you."
Cynthia was shocked. "How can I accept this! This is your life's work, how can you just give it to me?"
Wyatt's assets, to this day, remained a mystery. No one could calculate exactly how much money he had made—perhaps the amount was already so huge it couldn't be measured in numbers.
"I'm old, keeping enough money for retirement is enough."
Wyatt continued, "I was planning to leave these things to you anyway. You're my only family. If you don't accept, I won't talk to you anymore."
"So vulgar!" Efrain mocked from the side. "Does our Cynthia look like someone who needs money? She doesn't care about your money. All you know is to leave useless stuff."
"Efrain!"
Efrain successfully angered Wyatt, then snatched Cynthia's hand from Wyatt's.
"Cynthia, I'm different from this vulgar person. From now on, MedNova University is yours, and all the cutting-edge medical equipment will be at your disposal."
"Wyatt, Efrain, I don't want anything. Your health and long life are what make me happiest."
"Well, I've already signed the inheritance papers; you have to take it whether you want to or not."
Hearing Wyatt say this, Efrain quickly added, "I signed too. Cynthia, you can't refuse now."
"Looks like..."
Augustus lowered his head slightly, leaning close to Cynthia's cheek, his voice low and sexy. "I've landed myself a super-rich woman?"
Cynthia elbowed Augustus. "Be serious."
After chatting with Wyatt and Efrain for a while longer, Cynthia went to greet the other guests.
After making sure to attend to almost every guest, Cynthia left the main banquet hall and went backstage to change clothes.
Wearing a formal gown was always inconvenient, and she wanted to eat with her family, so she needed to change into something more casual.
After Cynthia changed and came out of the room, she vaguely saw a familiar figure in the corner.
Emily?
Why would she be here?
